Goudurix Review, Parc Asterix Vekoma Looping Coaster | World's Most Underrated Coaster?

  • Goudurix is the infamous Vekoma looping coaster at Parc Asterix. This ride is widely considered to be one of the roughest and worst roller coasters in the world. But I actually think it's overhated! I find this coaster bearable, and it has seven intense inversions plus a nice location above the water! I'll explain why I may enjoy this ride more than most in this review.

    My experience with this ride is actually that it’s smoother up front than in the middle of the train, although I’ve not ridden the back.
    another VERY IMPORTANT thing to not is that if you’re over 6’1/185cm tall this ride’s restraints will not accommodate to the full length of your torso as the restraint don’t fully go over your shoulders smoothly, so they’re always pressing down quite hard AND in the front of each car you can easily bang your knees to the side of the cars as the cars have a rounded front. The perfect height for this coaster (and all coasters with old mk1200 trains) is about 5’11/180cm because you’ll perfectly fit in the restraint without discomfort and won’t experience the knee banging.

    • @carkinyoli1171
      @carkinyoli1171 10 месяцев назад

      I totally agree to that, I unfortunately rode in the middle of the train and in the front of the car. I'm 6'3/191 cm. I ended up with bruises in my torso from the restraint, and some bleeding in my leg due to it hitting the curvy side of the car. I'm never riding this again 😂

    • @NathanHydra
      @NathanHydra 10 месяцев назад

      @@carkinyoli1171 I’m 188cm and the back of the car is more pleasant for your legs, but as canobie said: this coaster needs vest restraints. to accommodate for people that are taller than 185cm too, something which I‘ve noticed are often forgotten that exist outside of the Netherlands lol

So many coaster yt'ers are a bit....whiny when it comes to not glass smooth rides, not gonna lie, but you were always pretty much the same opinion than me with stuff I experienced. So big props for that, you can take a small little jolt without being "mimimi" xD
    Yeah it's rough, but there are so many coasters that are a lot worse. I actually like the trains and restrains, since my head also clears them.

    Goudurix would be amazeballs with new trains and some blue hawk style track smoothing. I haven't ridden it recently but when I did a decade back I found it way too rough for my liking. But it's intense and well paced and the layout is great. It just needs the above fixes IMO, as with said fixes it would be elevated to an 8.5.

    I agree. Rode it twice in the front (2019, 2023) just to make sure it wasn’t too intense, but after this review I might give it a go in the back next time I visit the park. I do however hope they take it down instead of retracking it. In my opinion that would be a waste of money. Imagine a Lech style ride in this spot! It would give the same awesome views. With them closing National 7 this season, I do however think the next coaster will be one on the smaller/milder side and nothing like Toutatis or Goudurix, if a coaster at all.

    I love the Arrow Megaloopers (and other custom loopers) that most other enthusiasts seem to hate, so Goudurix has long been on my Bucket List. Thank you very much for the comprehensive analysis of the ride and I'm glad you mentioned the successful Python retracking which I have been trying to tell people about for a while. From what I can see of the ride, and from you review, I think my biggest complaint would be the shallow angle of the first drop. Demon at Great America has a 54 degree straight drop that delivers strong airtime in the back car. I was curious after you spoke of the drop angle being a stated 64 degrees. There is NO WAY it is 64 degrees. It looks less steep than Demon's straight drop but steeper than Corkscrew's (at Cedar Point) 45 degree first drop. I think it is 50 or 51 degrees. Don't get me wrong I still think this ride looks incredible and that it my only problem with an otherwise WILDLY INTENSE layout.

Generally, when they say 'keep your head back' that is, I guess, to save themselves just in case you get a slight neck injury from pushing your head forwards. I had a shorter french guy next to me on Goudy, and I said 'push your head forward - then your neck might take a little beating but not your poor ears!' - after the ride he thanked me for the advice and said it was the first tolerable and actually pretty fun ride he'd had on it! I will say, going into the first loop, there is a osteopath-like neck 'crick' moment I got, also got this on Carolina Cyclone at Carowinds recently ha - but I just went 'whoaaaa' and then laughed cause despite it being slightly painful, it's all good fun =P The problem with Carolina Cyclone is the rest of the ride wasn't fun enough to offset that neck crick loool.. where as Goudurix certainly was. Oh by the way Canobie - I was the guy saying I never greyed out on I305. I finally did in Aug, by loosening up and almost asking the blood to go down to the ground.. and it was at night which made it all the sweeter. Best coaster experience of my life!

      Tbh, even though it’s the roughest coaster I have ever ridden, I think there’s worse than that. Its pretty intense too.

    Really wish it gets the python treatment, that ride is gorgeous, my first coaster with inversion and it is a legend here, prolly one of the most important ones for french enthusiasts. Really wish they can do something great with it, it could become one of the most liked retro coaster there

    Controversial opinion, when I visited Parc Asterix this year it was my favourite coaster at the park.
    Yes, I enjoyed it more than Toutatis.

    Its not that bad ive rode it 5 times when i went and the only painful bit was the corkscrews thats not due to roughness its due to the hangtime

    I can testify that Goudurix is much more manageable towards the back of the train. If you sit in the front you are forced into the inversions much too fast, and as a result the roughness feels exaggerated. It was extremely unpleasant at the front.
