For now, yes. Netherland dwarfs, lion heads and lop rabbits typically have Brachycephaly. These predisposed illnesses usually end their life much earlier than other rabbit breeds that do not have predisposed illnesses. Typically rabbits live 10-15 years (when fixed and without predisposed illnesses), 5-8 years with predisposed illnesses caused by Brachycephaly. As someone who studies exotic veterinary medicine, this is really sad to watch. We see patients that come in every month to get teeth trimming due to their Brachycephaly. This causes extreme pain to their rabbit (they cannot live with overgrown teeth), there’s always a risk with anesthesia and their owners pay thousands of dollars for their surgery every month or annually. Typically they already have matured cataracts at an early age as well. Overall, isn’t pleasant to see.
@@atlantisfaye2722 if the animals are properly bred than that wouldn’t be an issue. remember in your practice you only see the bad things. you could see 10 bad cases a day, but not realize that there are 30+ perfectly healthy rabbits that didn’t need to go to the vet. Also coming from an experienced breeder, that is not that common of an issue.
Go for it! Life is short, follow your feeling and don’t think in blokkades or a list of why you shouldn’t get one. If you miss it’ you will love it for sure. And when you love it…you will take care and manage. Animals are making your life awesome and full of love and happiness. All the best to you

I WISH my two rabbits did that. They did, at one time. Before they grew up.
