John, you made me fall in love with this kit. I can tell that the passion for the art of drum making is in you. The story touched my heart. I just retired from drumming part time in bands. 47 years of playing and I thought I was done. I must have one of these kits. Someday somehow it will be so. Thanks for stoking the fire.
I’ve never thought of myself as someone who’d switch to DW, I really love my Pearls. But I’ve gotta give to you guys, that’s one of the most beautiful kits I’ve ever seen!
Incredible story, and what a beautiful work of art these things are. And, John Good - you are one hell of a communicator. I was captivated through the entire video.
What an amazing story John! I’m just getting into woodworking and made my first snare drum, but the legacy behind each log and what we make with it are so important. Thank you for sharing!
I love watching these..John is a great storyteller!! To see the process of how these amazing drums go from a tree planted in the earth to a BEAUTIFUL drum kit is an incredible journey!! Thanks for posting these!!
It makes him sound like somebody I'd want to avoid. Probably owns a Harley-Davidson. "His" chair. He doesn't need to see a professional, he needs to understand how property ownership works. Probably owns white sunglasses. Also, it isn't "ammon" anywhere in the USA except where there are people who don't know how to pronounce words correctly. What does this guy's company make? I need to avoid those products at all costs. Unless he makes chairs. Then I might buy one and take it to that restaurant.
Marty McFly John Good is the Senior Executive Vice President of DW Drums, one of the best, if not THE best, drum manufacturers in the world. How many endorsers DW has is impossible to list, but among them is the late great Neil Peart. But they make quality instruments!!!! So show some damn respect!!!!!!!
Imagine if he just decided to do this project so one day he could gain their trust and then just burn their entire farm down. And on a sign written in blood, there’s the words “that was my chair”
John, you are a passionate man. I can see that you love your art. The whole world has been blessed by your craft, and I for one am grateful for your work. Maybe some day I will be able to purchase one of those beautiful collectors edition sets. It has long been one of my dreams.
I could listen to John Good talk all day. I play DW drums and love the amount of pride they take in their product. Their commitment to excellence is unmatched and their Customer service is unlike any other!
LOVE this video. I have been a guitar player my whole life. I have a collection of about 22 high end guitars that I adore. I know that a premium instrument can inspire one to try to become one with that instrument. My young son however wanted to be a drummer. I looked 6 months to find the perfect kit for him to own and inspire him to practice on and play. Then I saw Mr. Good's video on this kit. Then I knew it had to be this kit. I bought it for him for Christmas. When he isn't doing homework or sleeping, he's on this kit. The video above resonated with him so much and he feels closer to his kit because of the history here, and the love Mr. Good has for what he creates and does every day. Thank you John for helping to forge a fire in my son. I will always be grateful to you for your passion and love for what you do! God Bless DW Drums and Mr John Good!
What an INCREDIBLE story. Always amazing to see what goes into making drums - different series, different factories, different brands. Thanks for sharing. Makes me miss being there in person and seeing it all go down. Gorgeous drums!
I like how he's so amazed by grafting. He's treating it like it's something incredible that hasn't been done by farmers for hundreds, if not thousands of years. My grandpa has an apple tree in his front yard which produces 6 different cultivars because of grafting. Is amazed by grafting, doesn't understand how chairs work. Amazing fellow.
Meanwhile they use very exotic woods for drums that all sound almost exactly the same. The drums are beautiful, but shell material does not influence sound as long as it's hardwood. The idea the almond sounds different than any other hardwood is almost as stupid as the guitar tonewood debate.
That is an incredible story. That’s a story I would LOVE to tell ANYONE after playing those drums for them. Not sure how much an 8-9 piece set would cost, but that would be an amazing thing to get to do. This is what sets DW apart. And the finish is magnificent. Well done, John. Well done.

What a fascinating story - love it! Beautiful drums as always, and as distinct as I'm sure their character is...I know they'll still have that signature DW tone that no other manufacturer can provide!
The Problem here John, is you make so many beautiful drum kits, now I do not know which set i want to save for. I thought the Purple heart was it until I saw these guys. Absolutely stunning!!

This is my first, almond shells-seriously!!!The shells sound amazing a tone I’ve never experienced but pleasing to my ears. Got to have a set, going to check out prices and packages....If you haven’t seen the video of the process you really need to watch it.
I would love to see a kit made from Olive tree wood. The grain patterns are just Beautiful ! However being a very twisty growing tree. Finding those perfect pieces will take extra work.
The connection of the farmer to their trees is a very real thing. Making beautiful products out of the wood is honestly what farmers would want. Otherwise, the wood gets burned on small farms.
The kit is beautiful but do we get to hear it? I mean, it's a drum after all and you make equipment for Drummers. I'm sure I and others would love to hear it.
The almond kit sounds fantastic, but at the end of the day, Maple shells are all you need to sound great. I just ordered a DW Collectors SSC kit and I am going back to good old fashioned maple. It's the wood that made DW famous. No disrespect to the other woods, but I have all I need with Birch and Maple.
After watching this video, I want to indulge myself. I plan to buy a pure almond kit as a self-repair present for having my right leg out of action for almost 4+ years with chronic pain syndrome in the right hip and lower spine. There were also some other events occurring making it 6 years. This is nothing compared to the plight of many poor souls all over the world and I feel guilty thinking about spending family money but I love almonds and the story has hooked me in. After 47 years as a drummer, I want the hip, spine, and abdomen damage to heal from the latest surgery. It should take 6-12 months more. This will purchase should go ahead unless I have a guilt trip about dipping into the final savings and need to help someone. It's part of my dream and I am a bit embarrassed to talk about it but I hope it encourages someone who needs to do something to heal their mind and body through music. Thanks for reading my sappy story. Cheers. P.s. You can hand a DW drum kit like this on down through the family, like a fine piano.
@@dwdrums It's from the heart and I told my son about this today. Best Wishes and thank you for elevating drums as a finely crafted instrument and including Australian sourced wood from Tasmania.
@@dwdrums before this project, had anyone tried Almond as a percussive instrument? P.S. I'll say it again, that is extremely beautiful... wish I had furniture so pretty. THANK YOU !!
I love John the drum whisperer what a fantastic guy, company, and of course drums , but if I watch another drum story ( which is amazing as always) and I don't get a f n sound demo so help me God I'm going to go burn down an innocent tree ( j.k. )
Moral of the story. Be willing to give your throne up to the person next to you. Because it may help resolve something that you have had on your conscience for some time.
They could have also staggered by layer, using the almond as the vertical and any other wood as the horizontal. But they probably thought of that as well.
dw drums I just feel lucky enough to be playing the drums that YOU make. I never thought that I’d get a response from you. I know I’m not rich enough to actually buy a DW Collector’s Series kit, I actually got it as a Christmas gift from my dad. It was at Guitar Center, and it’s been my dream kit for quite a long time. It is an honor, no, a PRIVILEGE to be able to own a DW kit. The Design Series kit is awesome!!!!!! I know I’m not officially a DW artist yet, but I still feel like a new member of the DW Drums family. I would definitely love to come an tour the factory someday. I’m a fan. My first DW Drum was a 14x8 Performance Series Stainless Steel snare, which I still have. Actually, as random as this is, my middle initial is W. Kinda funny, huh?

Great story! Compelling and rich.
*expensive
The almond kit sounds fantastic, but at the end of the day, Maple shells are all you need to sound great. I just ordered a DW Collectors SSC kit and I am going back to good old fashioned maple. It's the wood that made DW famous. No disrespect to the other woods, but I have all I need with Birch and Maple.
🙏
Nice story great out come!!
It's my dream to visit HQ and meet John and have him and the team make my next kit :)
Thank you Kevin
Seems to have an organic sound. Very natural
Thank you
Thank you
@@dwdrums It's from the heart and I told my son about this today. Best Wishes and thank you for elevating drums as a finely crafted instrument and including Australian sourced wood from Tasmania.
I want a tour of the DW factory!! 😫😫
Good story great looking kit
Love this!!!
He’s a nice guy, but he’s still in my chair...

Stunning drums!!🙏🙏
Ha.
This is beautiful I wish I can get a Set
BEAUTIFUL Drums!!
Thanks
@@dwdrums before this project, had anyone tried Almond as a percussive instrument? P.S. I'll say it again, that is extremely beautiful... wish I had furniture so pretty. THANK YOU !!
I ❤ dw, its quality is incredible!
Great story and beautiful drums. Now John has to let anyone sit on his chair to see what else comes his way........you never know😕
Ha
That...
Was...
AMAZING.
😀
most beautiful shell interiors *ever.*
exteriors are pretty sweet, too.
Legend is, the guy who took his chair was actually a ghost.
Fantastic story!
🙏
I like this John guy.
They could have also staggered by layer, using the almond as the vertical and any other wood as the horizontal. But they probably thought of that as well.
Well this was an exquisite video;
Wow what a beauty.🥁✌️🥁
Fascinating! I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!
for sure.... www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/DRKT422AL--dw-collectors-series-pure-almond-4-piece-shell-pack
AMAZING DRUMS !!!!!!
I’m lucky enough to have gotten a DW Design Series kit in Midnight Blue Satin.
Nice!
dw drums I just feel lucky enough to be playing the drums that YOU make.
Thanks for love David.
Nicely done.. 18:36 yea baby!
