Akihiko was the only person to see that Ugetsu was extremely sensitive to emotions, despite his nonchalant demeanor. Ugetsu realized that it was him that stripped akihiko of his passion, but couldn't let go cuz he cant choose between akihiko and music.Akihiko on the other hand, could choose. Its implied that akihiko is more fluid than ugetsu. Akihiko isn't like ugetsu, he can live without both music and ugetsu. While ugetsu cant, both music and akihiko are his world. And he does not let go and wait for akihiko to do it-, its also why he hopes that at least "music will stay" by his side. Cuz thats all he has once akihiko leaves, when akihiko does leave him for haruki, it can also be understood that he lost half of his world- akihiko. Ugetsu doesn't show much emotion throughout the entire manga until that point. He always anticipated aki's departure, and prepping himself for the break up until it actually happened, & he finally able to express his emotions again.
What a great character description you did there! I see it exactly the same way. He is such a wonderfully written character, especially for being such a tragic one. He is my favorite ❤️

Ugetsu still didn't get any happy ending but we got some details - he moved from that underground apartment to a bigger one with a great view (its on a high floor) and the mangaka compared him to a cocoon that becomes a butterfly and finally spreads it's wings. He wins another violin contest in Moscow, Russia, and gets messaged with congratulations from some people including Mafuyu and Akihiko, and his reaction to Aki texting him is as chill as it could be meaning he finally let go of him and doesn't feel the need to always be by Akihiko's side.

I really like Ugetsu’s character. Their relationship had flaws and they were slowly drifting away, but I wish they could have solved their problems and made it work.
Even though they loved each other a lot, they had already lost each other long ago and now were only clinging to some hope that it’ll get better, but it just kept getting worse. I hope Ugetsu gets his own arc in the manga.

The number of times i replayed Ugetsu crying over akihiko walking away is countless. i think this is my second most heartbreaking anime scene. Ive cried too much him turning, him crying and lifting is hand towards Kaji. So perfectly timed.

Thank you so much! I'm also very sad that they didn't end up together 😔 I personally found the vibes between Ugetsu and Akihiko way more interesting and touching than Akihiko with Haruki, even though I like Haruki's character as well. Ugetsu remains my favorite.

Yes I agree that akihiko and ugetsu really loved each other. They felt so deeply for each other that it's hard to express. But I also believe that they were extremely toxic for each other. I mean the way akihiko left the violin and started harting music. And the way things would always go back and forth between them. Breaking up, but still living together and somehow still loving each other, but also both of them being in pain. I mean ugetsu basically waited for akihiko to finally end it, because he knew he couldn't. Man this love between them was so pure and complex... but like I said also very toxic. Just my opinion though :)
@@annaxgrace I emphasize with you. And that’s what hurt the most. Even though their love was so pure, they were toxic to each other. Both parties are at fault though. Besides, maybe they were meant to be but not the right time, or so I think... 🥺
