- My stay in Ghana last three {3} years actually made me fall in love with Ghanaian English Accent unconsciously. I just notice myself speaking Ghanaian accent more here in Nigeria than when I was in Ghana.

Ghanaians say 'docta' not 'dacta'. point of correction.
Walk/Work , Nigerian English is the worse in Africa. How on earth are people pronouncing word that way. Even the word Doctor, nigerians say Docto, and Ghanaians say Docta that is the correct way of saying it. This is where you find out the difference between Ghanaians and nigerians when they speak. Nigerian english is way off. Ghana english is the one that is used all over the world. And nigerian english is only limited to nigeria.

I have always wondered why Nigerians have a different accent as compared to Ghanaians. I was fortunate to go to secondary school from 1970 - 1975 and the English textbook that was used in Ghanaian Secondary schools at that time, was written by two Nigerians : OGUNDIPE and P.S Tregido. Out of this precious book we learnt English as the Queen’s language. This book had everything about English and even how to pronounce English words. You start by learning the vowels, diphthongs, how to transcribe words as to how it should be spoken. You can see all these in the old Advanced Learner’s Dictionary where every word in the dictionary is transcribed as to how to say it. Please check that out. The book was so good and our English teacher, Mr Asiedu had a command of every word in the book that he was given the name Mr. Ogundipe. We were at that time so proud to say that our English teacher is Mr Ogundipe himself. In class, we were given passages to transcribe ( as to how you will say or read it and I am talking about a whole passage not a line). Please grab the advanced learner’s dictionary and we can go over some words if you would have the time. I am always available but it should be American time. Good luck.

@@markntiri8251 Mother tongue cannot be blamed for Nigerians' English ascent issue: phonetics take care of that. I always wonder if Nigeria's own OGUNDIPE and TREGIDO's incredible English grammar book we used in our secondary schools in Ghana were not available to Nigerians themselves? The irony is that OLDER Nigerian generation like Obefami Awolowo, Azikiwe and the most famous Chenua Achebe are a few examples who were not accent "handicapped". Even if you google the name " Boniface Offokaja" a then Nigerian teenager who took part in 1957 High School debate in The US, you will understand what I am talking about. This Nigerian was BRILLIANT and very articulate and his Nigerian mother tongue did not dictate to his English PRONUNCIATIONS. Of cause English is NOT our mother tongue and therefore we will ALWAYS speak with variations to some extent, and I am not here to promote a colonial language imposed on us, but notwithstanding, proper hold on the phonetics will make it more intelligible to ALL to understand us when we speak.
Ghanaians don't say dacta, (you are over exaggerating, even our kindergarten kids don't say that). probably its the one you came in touch with. We pronounce it doctar. You can check that with google pronunciation or better still, your dictionary. Thumbs up.

This is very simple. Take Oxfords Dictionary on pronunciation and compare. You will realise that Ghanaian pronunciation is quite close to the British

Ghana's English is the same to the world while Nigeria English is only to Nigerians. What baffles me is that Nigeria is also a British colony so why all these bad pronunciations?
