    Pidgin English in Ghana is like an integral part of our senior high school culture. A typical Ghanaian is likely to start speaking pidgin English with their mates when they get to senior high school. Some of the words change depending on which part of Ghana you attended high school in. And just as your guest said it's more common among males having a friendly conversation.

    Pidgin English in Ghana is highly spoken in the senior high schools. And its normally mixed with the local languages, Hence its unique from the Nigeria pidgin. Nigeria pidgin is Raw English, Ghana's own is complimented with the local language.

    I heard pidgin English started in Sierra Leone then went across all of West Africa to Cameroon before it came back to Nigeria then finally to Ghana. Each country changes its terms and mix them with their local languages.

    • @beeba5508
      @beeba5508 2 года назад +2

      I believe pidgin is a broken English and it started when Ghanaian started learning English to trade with the English so it has no formula you pronounce the English words you can pronounce and the ones you don't know you mix it with your local dialect

      Pigin English in Nigeria started in the Niger Delta region in Nigeria, it was when the Portuguese first made contact with them to trade, n it spread throughout the country....... Nigeria pigin is a mixture of English n different Nigeria languages. It has influence in other Africa countries including Ghana through our movies (Nollywood), music n Nigerians living there....... Some words or slangs that Ghana use in their pigin are from Nigeria, n besides ghanians prefer speaking their native tongue.

    I believe Ghanaian pidgin is like 70% similar to Nigerian Pidgin so for any intelligent individual who understands that language is dynamic and picking meaning out of language shouldn’t follow a strict set of rules, if you’re a Nigerian you should understand about 60-70% of Ghanaian pidgin. Pidgin is simply the ‘broken’ English that our forefathers who were exposed to the whites or slave masters were speaking so all Africans have some form of their own pidgin.
