Great trip down memory lane for me. I was stationed at Yongsan in Seoul 1991-1993, and really enjoyed it (although winters were a bit brutal at times). The people were friendly and welcoming, and it was so easy to get around using the subway system. After work, we'd hop on the subway and get off at some random stop in a neighborhood we had never been to and just wander around. Always felt safe. I remember all the different types of kimchee. Some were mild and some were so spicy my tastebuds were toast for a few days. 😂 The yaki mandu fried in a giant wok over a 55-gallon drum in the streets of Itaewon was a great snack. The city definitely appears to be more modern compared to 30 years ago, but that's to be expected.

There is a really serious error in the description of the section of the Korean Stone Art Museum. Korea was not under Japanese colonial rule in the 16th century. 1979.. Wow, that's a long time ago. Korea has changed so much since then. BTW, Camp Casey is not there anymore but they moved to a bigger Camp down the Southern outer part of Seoul.
Dear Samantha I loved this video about Seoul! I watch a lot of travel videos about Seoul and this was one of the most interesting and well curated videos about Seoul! I still have relatives living there even though I’ve moved to US over 50 years ago!
Makgeolli is often referred to as "rice wine," but this is a misrepresentation. The correct name is "Makgeolli." While both wine and Makgeolli are alcoholic beverages, their brewing processes are entirely different. To make it easier for foreigners who may not be familiar with Makgeolli, someone tried to compare it to wine. However, this comparison has persisted as a misconception until now. Makgeolli is neither wine nor beer; it is simply Makgeolli-a unique beverage of its own.
Miss Samantha Brown:Thanks you so much for this new amazing video to heads Seoul, South Korea @ this remarkable restaurant that serves delicious foods in September of 2024❤❤❤
The Admiral Lee Soon Shin who protected Chosun from Japan's invasion 430 years ago and the King Sejong who invented Hangeul 580 years ago are still my eternal heroes and lords. Long live my mother country, South Korea!
She was referring to the years between 1592~1598 when Japan tried to invade Korea through coastline. You can see the one of the statue is a general (Yi Sun-sin). He is famous for Turtleship (거북선 geobukseon) and his diary.
The Joseon dynasty was the last and longest-lived imperial dynasty of Korea (1392-1910). Japan colonized Korea from 1910 to 1945, after years of intimidation, war, and political maneuvering. The Japanese occupation had a contradictory effect on Koreans, with some aspects of modern society growing while others were oppressed: In 1910, Korea was annexed by the Empire of Japan after years of war, intimidation and political machinations; the country would be considered a part of Japan until 1945. In order to establish control over its new protectorate, the Empire of Japan waged an all-out war on Korean culture
@@RealSamanthaBrown You can experience different kimchee from different regions in Korea. And you can't forget about Makgeolli where there are different flavors from different masters. You can visit Incheon (city west of Seoul with seaport) where General Douglas MacArthur statue is. General MacArthur is the one who came through Incheon after North Korea started the Cold War 6-25 back in 1950.
Uijeongbu-si is where U.S. military base used to be and where American military members left pork meat. This is where this popular dish "budaechigae" (부대찌게) (pork + kimchee stew) is born. Budae (부대) means military base.

Miss Samantha Brown:Where can I finds your Travel Channel on television in September of 2024? I used to watches your great videos on the “Travel Channel” for the few years with the late Anthony Boardain❤❤❤❤
Your program is quite good and easy to listen to. But Korea has a long history of colonization? That's ridiculous. Korea is mother of ancient Japanese cuiture and Koreans have indomitable spirit. When Korea was not ready for war with no war for more than 2 centuries. Japan had warring nations period internally, meaning ready for a war with several hundred thousand strong army, and eventually invaded Korean peninsular in 1592. Without almost no stamding army at that time on the Korean side, soon common people and even monks joined righteous voluntary army, Korea finally defeated Japanese army after 6 years war, resulting in the collapse of the Japanese regime at that time. Because of the bitter experience, the new shogun regime (Tokugawa) maintained the policy of isolation for 350 or so years. Only after the collapse of shogun in the mid 19th century, Japan opened the door to the world and developed industries and became a major power in rhe region. Then Korea was still lazy and remained as pre industrialized nation in the era of imperialism. So helpless Korea became a victim of imperialism for 35 years. Before that, Korea has boasted thousand years of pride of strong culture and nation. Hope you won't say things you are not well aware of.
Thank you for representing Seoul, South Korea. Another feature of Seoul is that there is 3 most popular and prestigeous universities (SKY): Seoul, Korea, Yonsei. Especially Yonsei University where it is few miles away from Hongik University (Hongdae) the place that you visited. As you were visiting GwangHwaMun Gate and Gyeongbokgung Gate, you were near one of the gate Namdaemun [meaning South Gate] (also called as Sungnyemun) was burnt down by one Korean male back in 2008. You were just few miles north of that. Beyond the Gyeongbokgung, there is "청화대" Cheong Wa Dae (Blue House in English) where the President resides. At last, there is an island in the middle of the Han River (한강) name "Yeouido" (여의도) where National Assembly is located (similar to the Capital Building in Washington DC in United States of America). Also, the place for 63 빌딩 (Yuksam Building) (Yuk means six Sam means three) meaing 63 story building.
The greatest achievement of the House of Yi of Joson Dynasty is the creation of a new language, Hahngle 한글. It is phoenical language that separates itself from Chinese and Japanese character memorization.
Overall this video pretends to be well-intentioned but, as pointed out in the comments, full of factual errors that are outright offensive to Koreans. Obviously Samantha (or her staff) didn't do any serious research about Korean history or culture before making the trip.

I apologize for my incorrect statement about colonization. The point I was trying to make was establishing that the museum had been working hard to return the statues that had been removed from Korean soil over a long period of time. Apologies again. (Update: didn’t realize RUclips allowed you to edit after uploading so it was removed)
There is a very serious and offensive error. How can it say that Korea has been a colony of Japan since the 16th century? 36 years have suddenly turned into 360 years.
John 3:16 Context 13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. 14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

I want to go korea again .
I will.
I was stationed at Camp Casey in 1979 and went to Seoul often. I miss it. Thank you for a trip down memory lane.

She was referring to the years between 1592~1598 when Japan tried to invade Korea through coastline. You can see the one of the statue is a general (Yi Sun-sin). He is famous for Turtleship (거북선 geobukseon) and his diary.
한국과(조선 왕조) 일본은 7년동안 전쟁했고 마침내 일본군을 한반도에서 몰아냈음. 식민지는 아니었음.
The Joseon dynasty was the last and longest-lived imperial dynasty of Korea (1392-1910).
Japan colonized Korea from 1910 to 1945, after years of intimidation, war, and political maneuvering. The Japanese occupation had a contradictory effect on Koreans, with some aspects of modern society growing while others were oppressed:
In 1910, Korea was annexed by the Empire of Japan after years of war, intimidation and political machinations; the country would be considered a part of Japan until 1945. In order to establish control over its new protectorate, the Empire of Japan waged an all-out war on Korean culture

What a coincidence Cynthia!! Have a great time and eat alllll the kimchee!!!!

Without almost no stamding army at that time on the Korean side, soon common people and even monks joined righteous voluntary army, Korea finally defeated Japanese army
after 6 years war, resulting in the collapse of the Japanese regime at that time.
Great video💎🔥🔥🔥

The point I was trying to make was establishing that the museum had been working hard to return the statues that had been removed from Korean soil over a long period of time. Apologies again. Apologies are good and appreciated but I think what you can do in practical terms is either edit out the part or put in a new voice-over.

John 3:16 Context
13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
