    Love my Risa! I play it unplugged most of the time, it's so quiet then, for practice with people around.

    I'm so glad you have reviewed the risa! I have a tenor and I keep it by my living room chair....practice while watching TV...and I don't bother anyone else in the room. I absolutely love it and wouldn't be without one. I had a concert but needed a little more fret space, thus the tenor.

      I have a concert and LOVE it. Bought it when the pandemic started and I think it's what kept me sane during those months. I could play any time, didn't bother anyone

    Very cool. I've been trying to come up with something small and portable, that I could practice quietly with. This may be what I need.

    So weird as we're unused to how they look but doesn't sound bad. I feel it's important to discuss the amp (not as an incidental mention) at minimum as far as the necessity for extra equipment especially for newbies who might have no idea about which amps to use. Also, you didn't say whether they're steel or nylon strings?? Are they playable with distortion like an electric or not? Some information missing.
    Also, I wish reviewers would be more realistic like instead of trying to demonstrate a wow factor by using a 100 watt amp that you yourself said is overkill, or immediately changing strings without playing it as is for the viewers - which may not reflect what somebody buying for the first time wants or needs - I might want to know if there's an ideal/recommended minimum wattage for example.

    • @Ukelikethepros
      @Ukelikethepros  2 года назад +1

      I understand what your saying. These are nylon strings on the Risa sticks, aka the solid electrics.
      As far as an amp is concerned, any amp will work fine, from a solid state amp or a tube amp, weathers it’s a 100 watt Marshall or a 3 watt Kala amp.
      These are very versatile ukes that are small, easy to travel with and sound and play great

      @@Ukelikethepros Thanks. Given that they're solid, I thought they could handle steel strings too.

    Steel strings or nylon?

    To all those who comment about the sound. It is about the amp and how you play it. Have a look at "Friends Of Old Puppy" on you tube, all will become clear. These are not toys.

    I’ve owned a Risa Concert for several years..
    The neck profile is almost square and not to my taste..
    Not sure if it’s just mine, but plug it into an amp connected to the main electrical supply and there’s a ground “hum”..
    I went through to check the grounding on the Risa, but it looks OK..
    I used it for two gigs and went back to my beloved Republic Resonator..
    It’s in my gig bag as a reserve..
    Seeing this vid reminded me I need to put it on eBay…

    • @outaspaceman

      @@romalondra it has an underbridge, transducer type pickup..
      Magnetic coil pickups need steel strings..

    • @outaspaceman
      @outaspaceman Год назад

      @@romalondra I wouldn’t recommend it as it may not have the lateral strength to support the amount of tension steel strings require..
      I’m now looking at the purpose built solid body electric ukes..
      Sadly they seem to be quite poor quality..

    Is soprano too small

  • @brianfergus839
    @brianfergus839 2 года назад +2

    Honestly, the sound you’re getting on them is not selling them - the recording is tinny and there’s too much room. They can sound way better than this demo. You should have mentioned pairing with a headphone amp, and played some styles other than just strumming. Nice to see the instruments reviewed, though.
