    Love my Duncan! And though it would probably be good to frag it, I don’t think I will after seeing how tough and sturdy and hard to cut they are! 😲 And you also answered a question I’ve always had about whether the heads need feeding individually or whether they share the energy throughout the colony. 👍🏻
    One thing I particularly appreciate about it, is its ability to act as a bellwether for issues in the tank - if mine looks unhappy for a couple of days, I start checking for problems. Thanks for another great video Ania! 😁

    I love Frag Files ;) So great - can't wait for Anja to "crack out the power tools".
    I have this plan to get a flat piece of rock covered in GSP with a 'tree' of duncans coming out of it - I think duncans are the only LPS with long enough stems but the vast majority in EU are small frags - think I will do it with a WA one and maybe put some morphs around the base ;)
    Don't steal my idea Cam!

    Another great video but the one slight criticism i have, and it is only a very small personal peeve... I would have liked to have seen the frags after being returned to the water open and happy. Loving these frag files... Keep em coming.

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 года назад

      DrOfWelshMagic I totally agree with you, it would be fantastic to have that much time to share how great they look afterwards . Especially as I am the lucky one to walk into the Prop room the next morning and witness just how perfectly resilient the polyps appear their disturbance. Takes my breath away.
      The main reason is because we can only book very limited sessions with our cameraman each week and / or the demands of our retail sector cause us to restock the shop with the propagated frags sooner than the next opportunity we have there with the cameraman.
      Lucky for our local clients that when they visit the store they recognise the frags from past videos, it’s always an impressive talking point.

    What do you do with the bits you cut off? The sponges and such. Regular garbage?

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 года назад

      Dallas Storm generally yes. There are two local reefers I keep in mind for “ocean offcuts” who tend to enjoy hoarding those kinds of oddities. When we unpack wild coral orders we can certainly hold back those kinds of organisms for people who have let us know they are keen for them.

    Ania, Coral DIP solution: Any specific measurement while diluting with saltwater

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 года назад

      Saran AP Hi Saran, I just use the measurements on the bottles. So it depends which brand you are using.
      For Coral RX it’s 8 drops per litre of seawater
      For Seachem Iodine based it’s 5ml-10ml per per 4L (dose depends on how dirty what you dip is)

    Very nice video tank you. If i could make a suggestion i use ( insta - set ) by Bob smith industries
    And it comes in a small spray bottle and its made for coral frags it makes the coral glue dries VERY FAST put frag in glue hold frag on glued plug and spray a couple of times and its ready. I use it and its great. Try it out and i will guarantee you will love it. Thanks again for the great video.

      @@GalleryAquaticaTV you will love it more propping up frags to dry. Remember it dries in seconds put frag in glue them spray it's very fast. Thank you so much for your time and help making these videos.

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 года назад +2

      Jeff Jarry i definitely see an advantage with that kind of a glue for some applications. But is there a way to isolate the spray for when we are doing bulk fragging?
      Usually when I Frag (for propagation shifts; non demonstration purposes) I lay out 150-300 plugs at a time per frag session. The gel formula of Cg or TLF Coraffix is perfect because it remains wet for a very long period of time and I can easily determine which plugs have different sized mounds of glue on them.

    • @jeffjarry4257
      @jeffjarry4257 4 года назад +1

      @@GalleryAquaticaTV since it's just a liquid spray you can just spray the frags you want to. I have the 2 oz. Spray bottle and it goes along way. Especially for the frags you need to prop up. And the over isn't that bad.

    • @jeffjarry4257
      @jeffjarry4257 4 года назад +1

      It's not a glue just a accelerator that's all once you put your frag in your desired coral glue just spray on glue and it dries fast with in second .

    I didn’t know there was two type of Duncan what are they called?

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 года назад

      Patrick Monteiro they are both the same species - D. axifuga - but completely different growth form.
      We call them “WA” vs “QLD” because of their state of origin. The WA ones are compact and the branches form thick dense plates. The Duncan found in QLD are spaciously branched.

    No offense, but you were pressing the coral flesh on the table with high chances of damaging it. Hold it up and cut it next to a bucket of water or a piece of foam so that if they drop, it lands safely.

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 года назад

      c4snipar thanks so much for the input, I appreciate your opinion . I understand how it may have looked here on the footage but I have to assure you in reality the cuts were incredibly low contact impact. This coral skeleton was incredibly dense. There was absolutely no way I could have safely performed a cut in the air, I would have snapped my wrist. Please believe me that there was no impact whatsoever on the flesh or the coral from placing it above the towel. All the frags taken were very successful, healed and encrusted the tiles and sold very fast.
      Ania

    You were pressing the coral heads no the table while cutting it and then you said you were using something soft to make them stable smh

      @coraladdict5059 4 года назад

      c4snipar have you ever tried to cut Duncan by hand? I nearly broke my wrist when I tried to.

    • @c4snipar
      @c4snipar 4 года назад

      I have. No offense, if you were almost broke your hand by cutting it maybe you need to have a better tool selection.

    • @GalleryAquaticaTV
      @GalleryAquaticaTV  4 года назад

      c4snipar thanks so much for sharing your opinion. West Australian Duncan grow such a strong dense skeleton I have even snapped our coral cutters trying to cut through what looked like a thin stem!
      Maybe it didn’t translate well via film but I do think you’ll find that I was incredibly careful to ensure that all soft tissue was safely retracted and made absolutely no contact with the (also soft towel on the) table.
      Sometimes it’s unavoidable to touch an area with pressure, but we do our best. I’m always incredibly careful where possible to successfully increase colony numbers via propagation efforts and never decrease them.
