Robin Zander is truly underrated and such a great vocalist. His versatility is incredible, using up to as many 5 different voices and vocals styles depending on the song. From the primal screams of Gonna Raise Hell to pure smoothness of Mandocello and just about everything in between.....The vocal style he uses on this video is my favorite, it's crystal smooth and displays his range, really exceptional....... and highly underrated. Kudos Robin Zander!
Only true Cheap Trick fans understand how deep and really great their music is. Most people think it stops at "I want you... or Surrender" so much more than that.
I was at a meet and greet with them last year. Let them know I was from Joliet and I loved their music BEFORE Budakon. Great people, Robin asks what song I want to hear? Never heard clock strikes 10 live. First song after after Hello!!! This year when I see them again I am going to ask for "Go for the throat. I might be pushing it on that one though. Got to try.
Listen to the guitar playing of Robin Zander. Brilliant in its simplicity and complete in it's utility. The guy is Great at what he does, that is for sure.
laudanum669- Truer words hath never doth been spoke! I live in Syracuse, NY, and every time they come here, they open for some shit band like poison or green day, and I have to pay $90 to $150 to just hear their 6 or 7 greatest hits. I want "Oh, Candy" and "Downed" and "Need your Love" and "World's Greatest Lover" and "Say Goodbye" and "Walk Away" ect ect. I've seen them 38 times, so I guess I might be jaded, not settling for "She's Tight" and "Surrender", (Although, I ALWAYS come equipped with a KISS album cover :)) Anyway, favorite band by far, EVER!
It seriously does not get much better than this. Experiencing this live is absolutely transcendent, and Robin STILL sings it like a man possessed. Unreal.
What an amazing version.Robin brings it after all these years, maybe better than ever. Rick's solo (4:55) is testament to the fact that no one gave him the credit he deserved. Bun, steady as ever and Tom, good lord, how could he be sexier than ever at his age? Legend.
Saginaw Theater, when they toured this album for the first time, on Robins birthday! Rick said “Robin is going to give you all a vocal lesson tonight!” Simply AMAZING!
A concert highlight...so transcendent, you forget where you are and just get taken away by the music. Damn, this band is SO underrated by SO many. Long may they run.
Awesome 10! Robin with shades of Roy Orbison in the intro Sleep Forever.. I've always loved this unique band since the beginning.. Robin has Mastered his Craft.. Wow!!
nobody compares...He blows away his contemporaries...forget about any new singers.nobody is as consistent, strong, and held the range he still has.Google him singing Love Hurts with Ann Wilson at Jones Beach in 2016.She's a great singer but he blew her off the stage.
W O W. WHAT A VOICE. TOP 5 ALL TIME . ALL ICAN SAY IS W O W. IM GLAD I SAW CHEAP TRICK IN 1980. AND AM GOING AGAIN AS SOON AS THEY COME THROUGH LOS ANGELES AGAIN.
True. At the same time though, the rock n roll hall of fame is a joke, not accurate and no different from all of the pop/hip hop award shows. The real rockers have acknowledged these dudes forever and well deservedly. And this is coming from a metalhead who usually doesnt like soft rock
Eastern Michigan University. 1983. Sophomore year. Woke up on a Saturday morning. Roommate says, Want to drop acid??? Yeah, sure. Several hours later, listening to this song, "you're getting nervous.....you've never been this high before " YEP!!!
Grandpa Rick still shredding! Actually a Great Grandpa I believe. Awesome song and rendition. Sad all our rock heroes are senior citizens. One day it'll all be gone.
Perhaps my mom went to heaven the night she took too many pills, but I've just heard this for the first time and all I can think of is her. It's a beautiful song.
I was watching a Cheap Trick concert on TV and I heard this song for the first time. My mother recently passed away it brought tears to my eyes. It's exactly what I want to say to her. RIP mom.
This live version is stunning in its power and its passion. The guitars are much, much better live than on the album. That mean guitar solo that erupts suddenly out of the silence mid-song that was added and featured was truly inspired and made the song so much more creative and adventurous. Its got a sort of Alice Cooper quality to it. I am glad too see that the band has continued to improve since the 70's. The album version of this song is too tame and somewhat plodding and monotonous. This is more like it! I have listened to this 10 times in a row and I still want more! I wish it were 1978 again!
Don't agree with you,Patrick. You have to understand the music in context. When they were making the music in the 70s(which I think was some of their best) they were directly influenced by topical music. In this case,it was likely the Beatles. There are plenty of notes in there that sound like the Beatles. Studio tracks are the cleanest elements of the composition and then they personalize it in live perfomance. Some people like studio versions of songs more, some like the live variations more.Whatever moves you.
Only ever felt the studio title track was nothing less than Cheap Trick's most accomplished and powerful composition. Monotonous? With the major key change after the bridge and the faint theramin harmony just beneath the vocal melody, Heaven Tonight truly is one monolithic hook, the whole f'n thing. Cheap Trick's Stairway to Heaven, only more haunting and subversive. Still get's me at the spine chilling core. Love
I like everything about this performance except Robin's hat. From their exhausting bar band beginnings in Chicago to worldwide fame, Cheap Trick worked hard for every bit of it they earned. This video is stunning and proves Cheap Trick is no one-trick pony. Robin's vocals are perfect. A great live band I've seen twice.
I got into Cheap Trick in the late summer of 1987 after seeing "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" on TV. The ticket scalper character was trying to sell Cheap Trick tickets to those 2 girls and they go, "Aw, that's kid stuff." I thought, if these vacuous bints hate them, they must be good. I bought a used copy of the Heaven Tonight cassette and immediately became a fan.
Awesome vocals by Mr Zander and great live performance. I've been lucky to be #277 in CT fan club. They're all regular guys, down to earth and have made my life a much happier one. trickfan for life!
Rick's son Daxx is doing a fine job on the kit but I miss Bun E. Bun E. just knows where the back of that pocket is at. It's just delicious listening to him pumping that groove.
Daxx is a perfect fit for CT. Having said that: Bun E. Carlos is one of those very rare gems of a player where no matter what kit he is playing on, no matter where is is at, no matter what band he is in, there is no mistaking him. He IS Bun E. Carlos.
No Bun E, no Trick. Didn't like the time without Peterson, either. Glad that I've seen the originals perform a few times during my life. Sure, children performing with a parent's band is fine and all, even kinda special. Still, a family member replacement can never improve upon the original. (Eddie and Alex)
This was a great year i saw them in Chicago for a Christmas show. Still hit all the notes..And people who are affraid to go to concerts... they are differnent now you can catch cheap TRICK AT VENUES WHERE EVERYONE SITS AND ENJOYS THE SHOWS, USUALLY BARS & FOOD THERE FOR ADDED FUN..
I am pretty sure that this performance was recorded at st.Ann's Warehouse, Brooklyn , New York on January 26th, 2010. It was released on a live DVD in 2012, titled " Front Row Center".
I think this might be 2009. It looks like Roger Manning (formerly of Jellyfish) on keyboards (you can see him around 1:17). I could be wrong, but if so, he played 'select dates' with them in '09
I should be writing, but I am listening to Cheap Trick. Wow, so glad I accidentally clicked on this concert.

Sad but true comment. Seriously, their music is just unreal.
I was at a meet and greet with them last year. Let them know I was from Joliet and I loved their music BEFORE Budakon. Great people, Robin asks what song I want to hear? laudanum669 Heaven Tonight !! One of my top 5 of all time
That performance took me to another place, but then again Robin Zander always takes me to Heaven!
It seriously does not get much better than this. Experiencing this live is absolutely transcendent, and Robin STILL sings it like a man possessed. Unreal.
What a performance!!! Robin sang that last verse of Sleep Forever in one breath. Whoa!
Best voice in Rock n Roll! Bar none!
Flawless. Robin is a class act singer. The best!!!
What an amazing version.Robin brings it after all these years, maybe better than ever. Rick's solo (4:55) is testament to the fact that no one gave him the credit he deserved. Bun, steady as ever and Tom, good lord, how could he be sexier than ever at his age? Legend.

If Heaven Tonight doesn't give you goosebumps, then you have no soul.
I agree, this song takes me to another place, just superb
Robin's voice is incredible!
🤘🤘🌹🌹
Phenomenal! Hard to name a better Cheap Trick song than Heaven Tonight.
A concert highlight...so transcendent, you forget where you are and just get taken away by the music. Damn, this band is SO underrated by SO many. Long may they run.
I consider "In Color" to be one of the iconic pressings of my youth.
Standing ovation from me Robin Zander! ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS
Robin can sure carry a long note. What a great singer in a tight band
This is the real Cheap Trick with Bun E.Carlos behind the kit.
Cheap Trick is not Cheap Trick without
Bun E… He knows it and lots other do.
Yawn. Such a tired argument.
@@RichLaVere i agree. I want KK Downing back in Judas Priest but that ain't happening either
To perfection with Bun E
World's greatest rock band. PERIOD.
Steven Mackie
The American Beatles!
ok. Lets say ""tied" with a couple others. I'll say thins: This band has probably played more concerts than any other band in history.
Awesome 10! Robin with shades of Roy Orbison in the intro Sleep Forever.. I've always loved this unique band since the beginning.. Robin has Mastered his Craft.. Wow!!
Cheap Trick is sooo damn good live.
Well, y'know, they ought to be great live after playing 1000 shows. And that's just so far this year!
Man, Rick was on his best behavior for this performance! Great playing and even his singing...damn, job well done Mr. Nielsen!
The main of a thousand voices, great performance
What an incredible band. They haven't lost a thing since they began....they actually keep getting better.
WOW... Zander still has the voice after all that Screaming... Amazing !
+Frank M What Screaming?Are you an "I Want You"..etc fan or, a real fan?
How many artists after playing for this many years as Cheap Trick can sing like this?
I can't name one , can you?
Just Fabulous ♥️♥️♥️♥️
How is that voice not incredible? Whose is comparable?
nobody compares...He blows away his contemporaries...forget about any new singers.nobody is as consistent, strong, and held the range he still has.Google him singing Love Hurts with Ann Wilson at Jones Beach in 2016.She's a great singer but he blew her off the stage.
Nobody on this Earth will ever achieve Robin's heavenly vocals other than the heavens above!🤔Fact!
Robin's great. I hear a lot of Roy Orbison in his style, especially here in Sleep Forever.
He is a beautiful person, inside&out, his voice is what; I truly believe Heaven should sound like,"Limitless I believe Chris&Chester can hear him; ❤🙏✌
@@juiiejohhnson8793 You got that right babe!
What a voice!!!!! Robin's voice never ages. He's so hot. I love Cheap Trick!
🤘🤘🌹🌹
I finally got to see cheap trick live again. They were awesome. Great , professional band.
W O W. WHAT A VOICE. TOP 5 ALL TIME . ALL ICAN SAY IS W O W. IM GLAD I SAW CHEAP TRICK IN 1980. AND AM GOING AGAIN AS SOON AS THEY COME THROUGH LOS ANGELES AGAIN.
Voice of a angel.
Amazing, amazing!!!! I look forward to seeing them in August and hopefully in October.
How talented is Robin Zander? What ever he wants you to feel you WILL feel. Amazing Cheap Trick
Amen. He singing brings you to another level.
That first performance deserved more applause then that zombie audience gave them. Finally in the Hall of fame...long over due.
True. At the same time though, the rock n roll hall of fame is a joke, not accurate and no different from all of the pop/hip hop award shows. The real rockers have acknowledged these dudes forever and well deservedly. And this is coming from a metalhead who usually doesnt like soft rock

Cheap Trick forever!!
Brilliant performance. Loved that.
🌿🎀🌿🎀🌿🎀🌿
Robin is the greatest singer ever! 👑 Long live the King of Dream Pop!
Epic. A performance for the ages.
they hold it together so much better than most of the groups that have been around as long as they have, still always sound so great, good job

I first saw the boys in 1978. All of this was, and still is so great.
Holy fucking shit!! That's breath taking!!
I sang this to my kitty Drake as I prepared his body for burial. I will never forget the flood of emotion. This song is excellent.
A MASTERPIECE CHEAP TRICK takes all of us on a journey to HEAVEN TONIGHT...........
What great footage. Thanks

Cheap Trick is the Beatles of the seventies and the US, both.
@@davestang5454 no coincidence. Cheap Trick backed John for a short while.
