    I’ll never forget the day I looked down over New York from the top of the original world trade centre where the cafe area lead to visitors stepping down to a perimeter seating area from which the memories of a lifetime were made. The flaw to the design of the original perimeter area on the cafe level was that when you stood up you battered your head on the hand rail of the higher level! Was it worth a bump on the head? Of course! ❤️

      Some people are so dumb to believe about the government propaganda. How can an airplane DEMOLISHED a building? You guys know how demolition looks like? They put bomb underground and the building sinks in. I went to both - the original and this new one. In the original I could stand outdoors, which for me made the indoors part useless. Although the new observatory is just indoors, it is still amazing! If you know the city well, you can spend a lot of time up there identifying places. I got up on a sunny clear day and took wonderful pictures. The windows are great for taking pictures. Some of my pictures fool people into thinking I was outside. Really neat!

    Great video Jon (as usual). I used to work with the brother of the only Venezuelan male who died in the attacks (Howard Boulton; only 2 the Venezuelans died, he and a Chinese-Venezuelan woman) and, idk, I'd like to go there in order pay somehow a tribute to somebody who personally and whose family treated me very well. BTW and regarding th Q&A video, I had no idea u were a cancer survivor, me as well (colon cancer 4 years ago, chimio and radio included, and quite exhausting) .. sometimes those are the life expiriences that push out the best of US, and in my case it was the one which opened my eyes and made up my mind to accomplish one of my goals and a huge dream in life: living at least a couple years in NYC. Im not there yet, but I'm quite determined to make it. however, in my country we're going through such quite an ordeal, that it's been so complicated saving money... Anyhow, I'm very optimistic that by the end of the year I'll have saved enough to jump into the greatest experience I'll ever live. WISH ME LUCK!! regards from Caracas...

    After 30Rock and the Empire State Building, this will complete the holy trinity. I went a month before it opened. I've also done the CN Tower, who's SkyPod I think is 100ft / about 30+ floors taller than this observation deck. It also houses the World's tallest outdoor observation deck (Edgewalk)

    • @carroux4050
      @carroux4050 5 лет назад +1

      Wanted to say the same :) Visited NY last month for the first time and went to all three. CN tower was also amazing and a little bit higher. Also the total height according to google is a few feet more then One World.
      What's really strange is the statement of a tour guide. She said the antennas which have a function does not count to the total height while those without are counting (One World). So I guess thats why CN Tower is not considered as a higher building :D

    • @dcarbs2979
      @dcarbs2979 5 лет назад +1

      @@carroux4050 In terms of official records for high buildings, there are different measures. Architectural, structural and occupied height. Architectural height includes antennas, structural height is the top of the building itself (not including antennas) - basically topped out roof height. Occupied height is the height of the top floor you can stand on.
      Some also differentiate between buildings with floors (like One World) and towers (like CN Tower). So on some measures, because most of the CN tower is just tower or spire and not indoor floors, it is counted as a "structure" or "tower" and not a "building" as it only has about 10 actual floors. 2 in the SkyPod, 6 in the main pod - including glass floor, edgewalk and restaurant, and 2 in the main entrance on the ground.
      And of course the fact the whole CN Tower is built to be a giant TV antenna!

    Hello, great video of the OWTC as well as your other videos too. I visited back in 2016, the year it opened was very excited. Though, why would the Empire state building be a tourist trap as opposed to the WTC? I loved the Empire State building too. Especially the art deco interior inside the building and being way on top at night just to see it up and close, lit up too. In my opinion, if you are a true architect fan like myself, the Empire State building is a true must too.

    Hey, I’m going to NYC TOMORROW!!! For the first time ever!! (Sorry, I’m excited). What are lines like on the weekend for the One World Trade Centre? I only have two days, so I’m trying to avoid lines if I can help it

      I think less in the winter than summer, but you can reserve in advance online and pick a time slot.

      Here Be Barr: thank you so much! I had no idea you buy tickets ahead of time, and that there are priority tickets as well. I’m thinking of going for the upgraded ticket to get through the priority line and save time. I was going to skip the World One, but thanks to you I’m going 😉

    I definitely need to go the next time I go to New York. I went to the Empire State Building because it’s such a classic but I think going to the one World observatory is definitely a must since the building is a sign of never giving up for me.

    My only tip is to NOT buy a ticket to the top of any skyscrapers prior to your trip to NYC. I thought I was being prudent doing so, but the week of my trip was completely rained out with zero views. Since I had already spent the money, we went up anyways and made the best of the situation. We had the Empire State Building and One World Trade Centers all to ourselves. We had no lines and no one else in the elevators. Being outdoor at night in heavy fog made the Empire State Building visit and experience I won't forget. It was very eerie and even the staff said it's the only time they get creeped out. One World Trade Center was not nearly as fun since it is all indoors and was pretty much a complete bust.

    • @SYDAirlineEnthusiast
      @SYDAirlineEnthusiast Год назад

      I mean you can still tour the skyscrapers in the rain, but I agree, if it is foggy, you won’t get good views.

  • @chandlerbingbong
    @chandlerbingbong 5 лет назад +2

    It's over-hyped, the gift shop prices are ridiculous and there's not enough comfortable seating (probably because they just want to get you in and out ASAP). The elevator show is the best part.

    Although I appreciate your opinion, it's hard to hear whether you think it's worth the $34 cost when you didn't pay it yourself. I also have to question your opinion when they allowed you up there for free, without waiting on the regular line, and sending you in a special elevator. It's hard to decry a sponsor. While I agree that the experience is amazing (and would add that the museum and memorial are even more astounding), that's after having spent all the money and experienced the WHOLE thing as a paying customer. Thanks for the fun vid!

    i agree, you have to see it - but only once. The Top of the Rock and the Empire State Building aren‘t that high, but they deliver a view without a window between you and NY. You can feel the height and smell and hear the city... I recommend the Top of the Rock for its view of all directions, for example the Empire State Building, the Central Park, and so on...

    • @gilmeiri1

      Top of the rock is definitely the best. Empire State Building is overcrowded though.

    I like what they have done but I’m not a huge fan of the observation deck as I was of the original. These days it’s about walking by a gift shop to spend money and not remember what happened there and what was once there and it’s become too touristy for me and I have not been back to the World Trade Center area since 2000.

    Which would you recommend more the Empire State Building or the one world observatory?

  • @billlu9468
    @billlu9468 10 месяцев назад

    I think it's fair to say that asking whether One World Observatory in Lower Manhattan is a tourist trap is kind of like asking whether the Forbidden City in Beijing is a tourist trap; the two spots are just the most well-known ones in each respective city, so there's no surprise here in regard to the influx of visitors to both One World Trade and Tiananmen Square.

    in the elevator next to you from the 70's to 2001 the other tower shows up then dissapears which i thought was a cool addition
