Thanks! I really hope to make a very good detailed engine video someday. This is when I was new to RUclips and had a junky camera with no video editor. The next one will be a lot better.
Nice job on the video! Super informative and concise. Love the tripod too! I use a small drill press vise for mine, or sometimes prop against duct tape. Lol
Thanks for sharing this. I have a 1942 Ford 6 cylinder I am having to pull the valve assemblies. This made it sooooo simple for me. I just wish I had found it 15 minutes earlier, I ordered a valve spring compressor.
I thought the originals were non adjustable. The adjustable ones that you have are Johnson adjustable tappets ( I don't know if they are still in business ) and, were also available for the flathead V8's. You are doing a nice job on the 2N !
You installed the guides without the rubber seals ! No wonder it went so well. There are neoprene washers that are supposed to go in the wide groove on each valve guide.
Yes I did intsall the seals on the valve guids. For some reason when shooting the videos I over looked them and didnt talk about them. You have the rotating exhaust set up. I could of put them on this one,but a lot of people frown apon them. They can be difficult to set and also maintain the correct gap.
Hahaha Thats a hard one to explain. It can be very hard. I could only do a couple at a time to give my fingers a rest. I did use a small flat head screw driver and kind of use that to stretch it out over. Once you get the seal into the grove make sure it isn't twisted around (inside out) There should be no gap between the seal and the grove top and bottom. I also used oil. it helps the seal to slide, but can them make it hard to handle, but it seems to work best if you do use it. GOOD LUCK!
You have some springs on wrong. The tightly wound end goes toward the valve head itself. Also I think you need the rubber seals that go on the valve guiides.
@morammo I was wrong they do have the name Johnson on the toll you use along with a Pat # however the box the lifters come in did not have their name on it and are from Mexico
Nice video. Hopefully it will help me when I try to fix my 9N that appears to have two valves froze open. I normally don't touch anything mechanical so it should be interesting to say the least.
about 15 plus shipping for them now in 2016. Better to just drill a hole in side of lifter bore then you can use even a nail/punch to adjust without worry of bending that flimsy tools..
Jason, then I guess that Johnson is out of business and, like everything else today, everything is made out of the country. I'm retired now, but was an automotive mechanic since the '50's. I still have a set of the Johnson marked adjusters ! You mentioned that the leg on the adjuster could be easily broken, this would not happen with the originals if not abused.
Your favorite local Pennsylvania 2n owner here. Hope things are good with you and yours. I have what you'll probably consider a dumb question. I haven't torn into my 2N just yet, but I was looking at gasket kits etc. and noticed that they come with valve seals. I've watched your video and several others, and none of them mention replacing the valve seals. Any advice would be appreciated before I tear this thing apart.
@@jasonerb2577 Yes I made a blooper/mistake in that video and failed to mention that. Replace them all. If not you could get some seepage end then the oil will draw up past the seals. When that happens you get too much oil in your cylinders and you'll have a smoker
@@jasonerb2577 Hahaha! I'm actually going to be meeting her this Friday at the Red Power International show. She has a new book out she wrote about the Farmall Cub history. I ordered it and can pick it up to save on shipping plus get a autograph.
Hey Jason, I've watched every single one your videos on the 2n rebuild. I learned a lot from you. I'm currently working on a 46 2N , I got the block back from the Machine Shop last week, I'm ready to put the valves in and the kit came with o ring seals for the valve guides, just curious why you didn't use them, or is it just on the exhaust valves? I'm trying to figure out a way to get them on.
Tom Jerome I am glad you enjoyed all the videos. To answer your question I DID use them. I messed up when I shot this video and forgot about them while shooting this part. I didn't have a good camera or video editor at the time so I just let it be. They are a little hard to get on but you'll get the hang of it. Put oil on them and work them on. Sometimes a small screw driver will help get them stretched on.
Hello, my name is Al, live in México, and have a tractor 2N 1940, i need the valvles and the distributor whit magneto, an the power starting, i need help for star my tractor

This video is 7 years old and still helping people. Thanks for making this

I just stumbled across your channel in a google search. I'm so glad, looks like a lot of cool old stuff in your content.
Thanks! Hope you enjoy. Haven't made videos lately but will soon
Just pulled the head on my 8N and am contemplating replacing the valves while I have it off.... So, I stumbled on your video. Thanks, it was great!

Thank you for your comment! Good Luck on your 9N... If you ever need help feel free to shoot me a message and I'll see if I can help you

EXCELLENT VIDEO JASON. I AM JUST ABOUT TO TEAR DOWN THE VALVE TRAIN ON A 51 FORD FLATHEAD AND THIS WILL HELP. THANKS.
Bill Shorney Glad you like it Bill. Just one thing I made a mistake on this video. I didn't show putting on the rubber seal on the valve guide
I did see that in the comments thanks.

Yes unfortunately I realized my mistake after the video was shot and uploaded.

I just did this valve kit, but mine came with lash caps that fit on the exhaust valves?, and im guessing you did install the rubber seal on the guide
Not sure what your asking ,but the original lifters were non adjustable. those are not bad anymore you muct get the adjustable kind

Thanks for the offer! I will probably have to do that.
Did your motor come with the Johnson type lifters ?

You didn't put the seals on the valve guide

No there is no Johnson name on them. Everything is from Tiawan
