    The shipp it author was a staff writer on the first 3 seasons of Riverdale. I adore the cast, they have my whole heart but loathe the show. The showrunner is a hack, doesnt know what hes doing and because of him the cast recieves the most hate and flack online. While the first season of Riverdale is a guilty pleasure and the rest is hot garbage, I don't blame the cast. They have no control over the writing. The producers and writers do. At the end of the day, actors are just people. Sometimes, like everyone else, they take on roles just for the paycheck, and it's reasonable to suspect the same with a lot of the cast in that series. That's also the same reason why I don't like trashing other authors who were in bad shows or movies like Robert Patterson.

    Yes! As an Eastern European, I hate the trope of mail order brides and prostitution in media. That plot point is just used so poorly and fetishizes these women. An interesting plot would be an Eastern European mail order bride who deals with domestic violence or a prostitute who is being sex trafficked. You know, situations these women actually deal with. Just saying...there’s more interesting ways to incorporate stereotypes and make a point out of them...

    I don’t like fandoms and fangirls that focus on the ship of two characters way too much, instead of the actual story itself. It’s really damaging to the people who are creating the story, because it pressures the writers/storyboard artists to change how they originally planned it. I’ve seen so many great stories degrade just to appeal to those fans. Those stories start 1. Queerbaiting 2. Changing character development just so the ship everyone wants ends up together.
    If you’re a fan of something, you’d accept it as how it is and how it’s authentically intended to be. Writing fan fiction is cool, and fandom stories are also cool, but please don’t harass writers and actors just because they didn’t write or agree to the story in the way you wanted it. It’s not cool.

    Ship It is probably my least favorite book. After reading the synopsis, I was super excited to read it. As I went through, I noticed some problems and the plot wasn’t really interesting me anymore, but it was an easy read so I kept going. As someone who identifies as pan, I was so excited to see representation for the first time! That was, until the public outing scene. As someone of the lgbt+ spectrum, Tess should have known better. The scene disgusted me, but more than that I was heartbroken. The first example of pan rep in YA was ruined in a monumental way. If you’re going to handle important topics, do it right.

    I’m going to try to write this but English is not my first language so I may sound like an idiot but I will try!
    I’m born and raised in Sweden so not Eastern Europe but there is so many times in American movies where a Swedish person is cast as a person from Eastern Europe because some Americans think that Swedish people can make a “good” Eastern European accent and its always a bad guy. Sweden is not Russia/Poland/Latvia etc we don’t speak the same language. If you want a Swedish actor/actress as the bad guy make the villain Swedish and let the actor/actress have an Swedish accent. So tired of villains being from Eastern Europe portrayed buy Swedish actors. And while they at it stop making Eastern Europen women whores!
    I can go on about how Hollywood portrays people from countries that don’t have english as their first language but then I’ll be here for weeks. I hope my rubbish English made sense.

Honestly writing fanfic about someone and their actual partner feels even more weird to me (although i have written/read some lol), but yeah. If someone wrote rpf about me i think i would just be amused, although i would try to avoid reading it haha.

      The idea of writing genuinely about real people especially their sexual aspect of their lives is disturbing. Plus what you're describing sounds more like an AU which is used for characters and real people where certain aspects are changed to fit a narration but doing that with real people still feels odd, if you're going to do that then make an OC instead of making it feel like control of another person's life rather than a made up character

    • @theaquinnwrites
      @theaquinnwrites 4 года назад +1

      @@amemelia well most RPF is AUs and even the ones that aren't, I still consider them to be so, because there's no way for us to know 100% if something is true about a celebrity's life. Except, if i made an OC people wouldn't read it, because they wouldn't be invested in it. If i made up a story about a band or an actor, there's people who already like that band/actor, somer of whom will probably want to read it. You don't have to like RPF, i would never force people to like sth they are uncomfortable with, but ultimately it's just words on a screen, it doesn't harm anyone, and no one is required to read it.
      In the context of the book my issue is that this girl is writing fanfic about someone she actually knows, and publishing it instead of at the very least keeping it to herself. That to me crosses the line.

    • @amemelia
      @amemelia 4 года назад +1

      @@theaquinnwrites I mean if you're more invested in popularity of an AU then you could easily reference the celeb in your OC. Sexual AU crosses the line inc sexuality, consider 1D fanfiction and how that affected the band. People get too invested in the fake lifestyles they make up for celebs no wonder they become uncomfortable. No one cares if youd be fine with it, not everyone wants their life examined to a degree that ruins relationships because people become so obsessive

    So fun to watch you read the Love Interest! I remember reading it and enjoying it in like, the way one enjoys a very tropy fanfic-- pleasant (esp for the representation), and lacking in world building but overall not a total drag to read-- and then going on goodreads and seeing the Extremely Bad reviews and being vaguely confused. So I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking it was an okay 3-star read and not The Worst. :)

    Yes to a lot of your thoughts about Ship It! That book frustrates me to no end.
    I also didn't love Jane, Unlimited but I liked it more than you did. I think it's worth reading if the concept appeals to you (I'm obsessed with the concept of alternate realities/choose your own adventure style books) but I think only some of the sections work and SPOILER WARNING I agree that it felt cheap for her aunt to be alive the whole time. Basically, I wanted more from it!

    The book about demon heart is basically a girl writing about how she wants Dean and Cas to get together. I understand shipping something but what I am bothered by is like trying to force a gay relationship on two characters. I ship Destiel too but i would never want an actor to be uncomfortable. That's my biggest issue off the bat without even reading a book

    I'm almost certain ship it came from the once upon a time fandom, the tantrums when one of the actors said that were terrifying. But at least the show didn't give into the tantrums, the harassing everyone involved, the telling gay teens they were self-loathing homophobes if they didn't ship these two women etc etc

    The Love Interest has been on my tbr for some months now! I didn't even know it was low rated, I haven't seen any reviews for it but the premise sounds really interesting. While you review definetly wasn't glowing, it still makes me optimistic that it was the highest out of the 5 bad books

    I really like this idea, and I think I'm gonna do this for myself. I've been trying to clean out my TBR list, but I think I've deleted everything I know I'll never pick up and now it's time to start reading them. But keep myself from losing my mind with rage and boredom, I'm going to read the 3 lowest ranked books and then the 3 books I've had on my list the longest.
