Ten years ago, when I was just 6 years old, I had a very serious fall from a high place that resulted in a facial injury. The doctor we consulted assured us it was a minor fracture that would heal naturally, but unfortunately, it did not heal correctly. My nose ended up deviated, which was quite noticeable. Additionally, there were extra tissues on my nose bridge that prevented me from breathing properly through my nose. This made many activities, especially physical ones, quite challenging.
I pursued Carnatic singing, Bharatanatyam, and other physical activities in school, but the breathing difficulty and fatigue held me back. I tried conservative methods like Pranayama, but I could hardly breathe, making it impossible to practice.
When I turned 15, we consulted an American ENT specialist. She recommended septorhinoplasty, but I wasn’t old enough at the time since the age limit for the procedure is 16. Instead, we opted for a tonsillectomy, hoping it might help. Unfortunately, it didn’t provide any relief.
Determined to find a solution, we consulted with a pediatrician, underwent MRI and blood tests, and finally prepared for the septorhinoplasty now that I was 16. The surgery was performed two weeks ago, and by the fourth day of recovery, I noticed a significant improvement. I could breathe through my nose without gasping for air through my mouth.
