I stopped by Fitzroy swimming pool the other day, and that median with grass and car parking on Alexandra parade seems like a good spot. It would be cool to see a lowkey station with minimal above ground constructs, sort of like the small simple staircases that lead underground you see at Piccadilly Cricus station on the tube

    A couple things:
    1) By the time you get past Mernda to Yan Yean and Whittlesea, you are really starting to enter V/Line territory. For lines like this and others like Gisborne, Warragul, Geelong, and Healesville, I don't think that its a good idea to be using HCMT and operating as a Metro-no need for all that capacity and frequency, and a desire for more comfort on longer trips-although those lines should also be upgraded with express service skipping most stops out to Mooroolbark and Middle Gorge, preferably using V/Line equipment.
    2) Relating to this, it seems like it would be simpler and easier to just do the Doncaster line into Metro 2 directly and not have to worry about disrupting the Mernda line. This way, you have a single line that is completely new and can be built for maximum efficiency and simplicity. With Doncaster taking pressure off of Hurstbridge and the improvements to Upfield taking pressure off of Mernda, those lines can continue to function.
If you still have extra capacity, THEN you start adding Morang locals and such.

Nice summary video mate. As a fellow Melbournian I'm also recreating the network on NIMBY Rails. My partner just said 'hey, isn't that the game you're playing?'
Ive included a few fantasy lines and I couldn't help but notice you have alone running through the centre of the CBD to Southern Cross, which line is that?
Keep up the good work mate!

    • @MetroManMelbourne
      @MetroManMelbourne  2 года назад +2

Thanks for the kind words! The line through the CBD is the proposed Melbourne Metro 3 (Melbourne Airport - Newmarket - Kensington - Arden - SSS - Parliament - North Richmond - Doncaster). That will probably not be constructed for decades to come, if ever.

@@MetroManMelbourne What if MM2 is built running UNDER the city loop, and extra tracks are built for MM3 to run under the same way?
      So it looks like this:
      MM2
Clifton Hill - 86 tram - 11 tram - 96 tram - 1/6 tram - lygon st - central - flagstaff - Spencer St (SXS Interchage) - south wharf - 3 fishermans bend stops (Southern) - spotswood - brooklyn freight route - airport line, done cut-and-cover except for under the central city
This would at least actually get people where they want to go and provide a cross-city inner line for tram users
and then MM3 (with interlining from where they cross over near clifton hill, allowing for express track to the city for both lines)
      S.Clifton Hill - victoria park - central - flagstaff - north melbourne - arden - macaulay - newmarket - showgrounds/highpoint line
MM4 (this and mm3 combined would probably be as big as the original mm3 proposal)
altona line - newport - 6 fishermans bend stops (northern) - south wharf - Spencer St - Arden South (N.Melbourne Interchange) Kensington - Craigieburn Line
Ultimately new trains could be built, level crossings all removed, signalling upgraded for a proper metro line (The current Xtrapolis trains are shit, and the trains are too dang slow especially since they don't travel at full speed due to the schedule.

@@MetroManMelbourne I do think if Metro 3 were built on that alignment, passing through SXS and Parliament that a station should be built at Bourke St Mall.
But then I think it should not go through SXS and Parliament but should divert from Newmarket to have a station at the Royal Children's Hospital, connect to Parkville station and then go to Doncaster. This will make Parkville an even more important hub with the West East Rail Tunnel and metro 3 connecting there.

I really dislike this connecting back in at Newport.
There are 2 options that make more sense and cost more money.
    1. connect Port Melbourne to Williamstown to Williamstown Nth through the Altona loop.
    2. connect Port Melbourne to Spotswood to Follow the Blackshaws Rd alignment then Millers Rd through the Altona loop.
In both cases extend Westona through Point Cook and East Werribee. Teminate at the Derrimut Rd Crossing where there already looks like there is a platform space. There is already space for rail around the back of altona meadows and point cook and server the East Werribee District they want to setup. The ideal situation would continue the line to Tarneit with a stop at Werribee plaza but I suspect a BRT or Trams would end up happening.
The Port Melbourne to Williamstown alignment separates the Williamstown and Altona loops into their own line allowing for increased frequency on the Werribee line.
Blackshaws Rd/Millers Rd would service new medium density sites along Blackshaws Rd and link to Altona Gate and Millers Junction shopping centres.

I think an alternative station for fitzroy station could be 255 Smith street (it is a large carpark in the middle of the suburb) and would allow for the Parkville stops to be in alignment with MM1 platforms there.
