That man didn't need Hollywood to become a star like other over hyped martial "artists". He was true to his calling and that's why God took him home like Enoch.
no, he wasn't rich. he owned one gym his entire life, Gracie Humaita in Rio. He also didn't get paid any kind of royalties for inventing bjj AFAIK. His income was that of a martal arts teacher and gym owner, and that's about it.
His father was in the business of exporting Brazil nut in Belem do Para, northeast Brazil. That's where Carlos was taught Judo by Mitsuo Maeda. It is said however that the family returned to Rio de Janeiro due to financial hardship. I'm not sure what was the exact state of their finances after that .
Dorito Maldonado Dude, only 6% of Brazilian population live in Favelas. Even if you are poor on Brazil standards isn't so hard don't in a Favela community
@@airdev3386 nope, he was rich, always involved with the aristocrats. He gave classes for presidents, people of high societ, raised nine children without any financial difficulties...
the father of gracie was politician and businessman but he bankrupt around 1915 then their son take kano jujutsu(judo) and start advertise like gjj and mix it with some catch (it was already mixed because maeda was a catch wrestler too) then a lot of people start traing and involved the art but gracie ofc take all the credit. gjj it wasnt so effective against luta livre in vale tudo but aftet 1993 anf ufc spread in usa and world. gjj always was the art of rich men, favela kids trained in luta livre
Calling Maeda a Catch wrestler is a non-sequitor. He did so because he worked as a prowrestler traveling all over the place. But ofc none of the internet Catch wrestlers like to use the word Pro wrestling due to euphemism and its negative connotation for being fake.
