  • This time we're trying something new on the Kearney and Trecker horizontal mill - gang milling with two different indexable cutters to help us make a new faceplate. You'll also see us put our Suburban Tools Fly Cutter and our belt grinder to use as we finish it off. Thanks for tuning in!

14:10 I remember I always liked choosing the spacers to fill in the arbour!! .. I don't know why but it was fun.
So .008 is fine for this project, it worked perfectly!! .. if it's super important? .. We use to make a test cut on a scrap piece. We'd cut shim stock in rings ... to make fine adjustments :)

Very nicely done. That K&T is a proper beast. Thanks for letting us watch.

Nicely done. My first gang milling was a 5 cutter, simple 90 Deg. V, for an aluminium box section. That was a long time ago, nearly 50 years. My old boss used to say " Every cut is an experience ". Good post.

Big K&T handled it like a boss.

    Very nice job.
A piece of Turcite glue in would have made a nice bearing surface.
    Nice work.
    Have a great day.👍

Nice! I am waiting to pick up a small Famco press I won at auction. If it needs anything done to it, I have some good reference videos. ;) K&T rulez!

Great video. I'd love to know how you made that sleeve @ 4:25. I'm new at machining and just rebuild my Atlas table top horizontal mill. It's hard to find inexpensive imperial parts so using metric parts is the only option sometimes. Thanks for sharing.

    I like lathe machine

I bet that machine would make that cut at full depth of that cutter with no problem.

The fly cutter is throwing sparks? It’s time to change the cutting bits.

VC when u bent the mill shaft back to straight on your KandT can u tell me how u did this? My z axis handle is bent about 1/2 inch and i would like to straighten it but am worried about messing up the inside of the mill with the force or if i had to heat up the shaft. thanks for any intel. on how u straightened your shaft.

Are you referring to the handle shafts on front. On the right side shaft I replaced it. Maybe I straightened the other or just left it can’t remember

The shafts go far back and have pretty good bearing support if I had to do it again I think I would be fine heating the front red hot and bumping it back straight by trail and error

My right handle has no run out since the shaft is new but the z does have some runout still. Maybe 1/8-1/4 but it doesn’t effect performance.

ok went back watched your video and u said the x axis handle was bent but u straightened it out@@VanoverMachineAndRepair sounds like u wouldn't fear putting a cheater bar on it...hitting it with a little heat and bending it it slowly back to near straight?
