Are you not allowed to punch people in the face in this sport? Every time they started carrying their hands too low and stuck their chin out just begging to be countered I was like "it's over" and the other guy just ignores the target like the knockout shot wasn't right there.

It's bare knuckle, so in kyokushin (*competition*) you can't punch directly to the face.
However kicks to the face are allowed.
