IMHO this is not only one of the very best Men at Work songs, but one of the best songs from the 1980s, period. I'll never understand how it never makes any lists of the best Men at Work songs. It's a stunning song on all levels!
88k views? Seriously? This should be millions views. Best song from that band. Poesy for the ears and what an atmosphere they created in that live performance.
I was an abused kid growing up and before I got my driver's license I would take my car to La Jolla cliffs and watch the waves crash against the rocks below me while listening to this song. It helped me decompress from my life. It's still holds special meaning for me even though I've long been healed from the past.
This was always my favorite Men at Work song and it never got any play. Too long I guess for the radio. People really missed out on a lot of what they did.
@@JL-qo1hg Yes. I put him right there with Steve Perry, Brad Delp, Paul Rodgers, and many others. His technique is very unique and well crafted. Technically sound and squares every note. And this is before auto-tune.
This is a simply STUNNING live performance; the great Greg Ham really SHINES here! Today is the 2nd anniversary of Greg's death. He left us all too soon! :'(
Beyond classic rock !!! I was lucky to see them play in Vegas at the Freemont experience .. thanks to the band and most of all ..Collin hay ! Muahhhh !!!
Men At Work Is one of the greatest 80s Bands ever. I hate that Greg is gone. Thats why I started a tribute Band. I loved there music from day one when I first heard them. Use to friggin go to sleep with a jam box to my ear when I was a kid Listening to them.
Colin and the group were such a huge part of my 80s and 90s. His voice and writing talent is very underrated, even today. Sting doesn't even match it and i give Sting much appreciation.
I loved listening to Men At Work from grade school until they broke up when I stated high school. Great band! Too bad that Greg Ham has since passed away.
Down by the sea live.. a dream come true. What an atmosphere the song has from beginning to end - followed by F19 with the great Greg Ham sax solo. timeless. If you seek escape from your daily routine this a great watch. Thanks so much for posting!
I remember that feeling, was love, with 16 yrs. That time ´´Business as Usual´´ was on my playlist, everyday, from ´´Who can it be Now´´ to ´´Down by the Sea´´, just was a teenager, and this record made my year! It´s nice listening once again!
Just think what it was like listening to this when it was brand new in junior college around 1983. Also huey lewis. High School some Rick Springfield. Quarter flash.
Saw Colin in March 2024 in Atlanta nice 1600 seat theater he was solo and acoustic guitars. Told good stories between songs worked with Beatles after they broke up
Wow, seeing this clip I realize what outstanding musicians the guys were to get such a brilliant sound live. Probably only someone from Melbourne would understand the "yonnies in the wind", and "putting out the bins" reference..not sure where the word for small throwing shaped stones," yonnies" came from.
San Jose, CA. "83...hello Julie West. For a moment there Men At Work were right with The Police as far as popularity...they owned Mtv. They were able to Catch a Star, and in the process Touch the Untouchables...all before it became Overkill. i always thought Dave Matthews Band would do an excellent cover of Down by Sea (*LIVE & only live). Sadly. just as Greg...Leroi has passed on, they both played the sax with such a haunt. Like a distant train far in the horizon. I like to imagine the two have met, and were introduced by the arch angel Gabriel, and now do gigs at a bar called "Heaven". That would be simply...Red.
Fantastic! This is probably my favorite concert of theirs, from Toronto in 1982.The whole show was incredible, and this was one of the best parts of it.Love watching Greg shaking his booty on "F-19" and playing the cowbell!😎
Excellent! Thank you so much for sharing! I really wish all MAW audio was on CD, and all MAW video footage was on DVD. They could put out different volumes of each, depending on what they find in various vaults. I'll even accept digital downloads if the music and video companies insist that that's the only way they'll do it. But give MAW fans the option to pay for more material from this truly special rock band. Free MAW footage on youtube is wonderful, and it makes me wonder what else is in the vault.
Agreed! One of the greatest songs of the 80's...How I remember seeing this live at Th Universal Ampitheater ....what a treat.. by far the best song on the LP
We love you, MAW! I was 11 in '83 and there was talk about them coming to my home town in Batavia, NY (to play at the local horse-track's venue), but it didn't pan out for what would've been my 1st Rock show. Nevertheless, I recommend this under-rated band whenever possible to music-lovers and friends alike
As a kid, I didn't want to go to the concert alone in 1983, and I was saving my money to catch the American Hollies tour with Graham Nash that year. Like a fool, I just thought; "well, I'll catch them next year."
One of my favorite songs and often wondered if guitar intro was a bass or 6 string its the rhythm guitarist on bass tuned to higher octave. Sounds very cool 😎 ❤
It touches my heart to see how many men love this song as much as me!🥹
One if the greatest songs ever written❤
This is why you should listen to albums front to back
Absolutely correct. It's become my favorite on the album
It's probably the best ending I've heard on any album
No music like this anymore! What a trip
This could be the most therapeutic song of all time
This band never got the credit they deserved. AWESOME musicianship.
IMHO this is not only one of the very best Men at Work

Worth it to be old now, to have been young then. Awesome
This song takes me way back!
I was an abused kid growing up and before I got my driver's license I would take my car to La Jolla cliffs and watch the waves crash against the rocks below me while listening to this song. It helped me decompress from my life. It's still holds special meaning for me even though I've long been healed from the past.
LA JOLLA, the beautifull Salk institute building.... With this song in the ears....A taste of .... Magic, Jack Vance, liberty.....Too big for me......
I'd like to see Salk Institute building, listening this wonderfull song.It should be a magik moment for me.
You will always get on with healing; you're so brilliant to discover this little piece of art. Best part - there is more refuge in music
Thumbs up for happier times👍
Sorry made a stupid comment a few weeks ago
These guys were so ahead of their time. My favorite song of theirs. So mellow.
The bass guitar is out of this world ahead of its time, dudes doing primus style stuff
so under rated, so much more than Down Under, so much talent
Sooo good,bass and drum heaven
🤠👍
One of the most amazing under rated bands of the 80s Colin Hayes voice is still haunting.
Evocative and haunting in its beauty. One of my favorite MAW songs.
I've always loved this song. Wonderfully atmospheric with incredible wintertime and maritime imagery.
I love that song. Its on my portable audio player. I walk and do my workout while listening to great pieces of music such as this one.
Aaaaaah - bliss - Colin's voice is just out of this world :)
Yes, out of our World. You are so wright.
hauntingly mesmerising sticks to your soul like a good wine
This was always my favorite Men at Work song and it never got any play. Too long I guess for the radio. People really missed out on a lot of what they did.
One of the most beautiful voices to ever grace the airwaves
Who? Colin Haye?
@@JL-qo1hg Yes. I put him right there with Steve Perry, Brad Delp, Paul Rodgers, and many others. His technique is very unique and well crafted. Technically sound and squares every note. And this is before auto-tune.
DAMN ... what a great Summer this was ... ...

He left us all too soon! :'(
Z
How did he die ? Yes gone to soon.
I always thought Jerry’s drumming was just incredible. And his drums sound amazing.
one of my favorite bands from the days when MTV was worth listening to.
1983 was a good year for Aussies. They became the very first country to win the America’s Cup.
Men at Work continue to be one of the most underrated musical acts ever. Amazing songwriting and performing.
It's a pitty that Greg Ham is gone :(. He was one of the pillars of Men At Work. His "intro riff" of Overkill is unforgettable
See him doing three things at once with his drumstick, cowbell, sax and keyboards?
Beyond classic rock !!! I was lucky to see them play in Vegas at the Freemont experience .. thanks to the band and most of all ..Collin hay ! Muahhhh !!!
Colin Hay & Men at Work!! Nothing more to say" Who can it be Now"! Nuff said!

I just love everything, his voice, everything! This song made me nostalgic
This is one of my 'Desert Island Discs'. Love it.
The best song off a great album.
I remember this and how fresh it sounded. The instrumental number is so Excellent!
Colin and the group were such a huge part of my 80s and 90s. His voice and writing talent is very underrated, even today.
Sting doesn't even match it and i give Sting much appreciation.
I was in awe seeing Colin and his new Men at Work band play this song a couple of months ago. His voice is still incredible!
I saw him at Maleny pure genius!
I loved listening to Men At Work from grade school until they broke up when I stated high school. Great band! Too bad that Greg Ham has since passed away.
Jerry tearing that kit up and the director is missing all those tasty fills. Drumming tour de force and masterclass.
Well, we did catch a couple of interesting ones in the last minute. But I would definitely love a whole video focused solely on him.
Man what a solid performance
Down by the sea live.. a dream come true. What an atmosphere the song has from beginning to end - followed by F19 with the great Greg Ham sax solo. timeless. If you seek escape from your daily routine this a great watch. Thanks so much for posting!
One of my favorite men at work songs and they nailed it live. Down by the sea aahhh!
for some reason i think they took this way more seriously than was expected. quite incredible really. great musicians. all of them.
I was just thinking about "yonnies". What about getting hit by one and then throwing a "wobbly"?
I remember that feeling, was love, with 16 yrs.
That time ´´Business as Usual´´ was on my playlist, everyday, from ´´Who can it be Now´´ to ´´Down by the Sea´´, just was a teenager, and this record made my year!

Such a beautiful song...Im so happy it was written and in the world!
Espectacular!! 1983 a los 16 mayos...hoy todavía
I love Men at Work you mean so much 💘
Just think what it was like listening to this when it was brand new in junior college around 1983. Also huey lewis. High School some Rick Springfield. Quarter flash.
The two massive hits overshadowed everything on that album apart from this utter beauty. What a song!
What I love about this band is how they are so cohesive, always working as a team.
WHAT ATMOSPHERE WHAT GROUP WHAT CREATIVITY WHAT A VOICE ❤❤❤❤
One of my favorite songs
Thanks

Genial uno de mis favoritos gracias desde Piura Perú
4:07 RIP Greg Ham!
This is a great and underrated song! I love the beach! Jerry needed to wear a shirt though.
fantastic, superb and timeless
RIP Greg Ham

I love their sound and the use of the sax
Fantastici...il drum il basso la voce ...boaa..thanx
Still listening in covid 2020..banging 💕💕

Greg Ham...just brilliant musician..taken too soon ..Colin's right hand man....much respect
i would play this song at night with my wolf hybrid pup I had at the time and fall asleep. so many wonderful memories of this band and that time
Fuck yeah.
That saxophone tho 💕💕💕

Always loved The Dual Double Bass Sound in this tune!
"F-19," which is the instrumental B-Side of 'Be Good Johnny,' starts at 6:17
Thank you
miss them so much... so amazing they played these two songs together

its quiet when the tides low.
Woah! Finally too much time past, my favorite last memorable songs studying young boy on a primary school
Agreed! One of the greatest songs of the 80's...How I remember seeing this live at Th Universal Ampitheater ....what a treat.. by far the best song on the LP
I hope when it's my time to take my last steps this will be the song playing in my head.
Awesome bass 😮❤
Very under rated song.
Damn I forgot just how damn good these guys were !!!
I never forget.

Damn, those boys were good.
This is a masterpiece
For some reason, its really exciting watching Strykert on bass
The last bit of this toward 10 min mark is the beginning of a song called Shintaro. It was a B side from the album Cargo
the instrumental F19, then Shintaro. Would've liked to hear all of it.
You couldn't go wrong with any of their songs!
@@JohnSmith-mw2hh I'm pretty sure the full concert is on youtube somewhere.
That's how you play a big ass drum set ! 🐴
Can't imagine seeing these guys perform this at some outdoor venue that summer would have been a low point.
Thanks mate. An indelible mark on music.
Beautiful
My only criticism is this feels like not the end of the performance and it should be!
Great song!
