This romhack is heavily based on the pokemon adventures manga, but from the perspective of team rocket and tweeked enough to not be the same exact story. But Koga, Sabrina, Surge and I think the fourth one was Blaine (though he redeemed himself after, at least before Red, Green and Blue went through their journeys) were part of Team Rocket in the manga. And Professor Oak was the previous Champion of Kanto. Those are part of the story of the manga.

1:09:27 Just a note; I get why you hesitated, given this mod's track record, but that line was pretty okay as the character was talking in a very positive manner. He even complimented a trait that was likely a manifestation of Red's autism. If anything, the only thing could be offensive is the "lightly" part; functioning labels (whether or not someone has "severe" or "high-functioning" autism) do more harm than good. "High-functioning" implies someone doesn't need help and that you can just ignore it. "Severe" often implied that a hopelessness or that someone is lesser than other people.
Speaking as an autistic person, having "autism" treated as a synonym to "retard" hurts far more. Autistic isn't a bad word.

Yeah, as an autistic I can safely say this is the right way to approach the issue. Granted, I don't know the mod creators so I don't know if they had the right intentions with this line, and given the presence of the word "lightly" I don't have high hopes, but the community has definitely reclaimed the word as a good thing. I totally get why he hesitated and reached out to chat to let him know if the mod made them uncomfortable, and I really respect him as a creator for it. If you see this Eric, thank you for handling the situation with care
My two cents as an autistic fella: the line was worded as "they're autistic, *but* [compliment]". So, the line seemed to imply that being autistic is a bad thing, or makes a person lesser. Almost as if the "good" traits "make up" for autism. (Despite the fact that if a person is autistic, the mentioned traits would probably be intrinsically linked to said autism...)
So yeah, that, on top of the functioning label, made for a rather... unpleasant line to read. I also definitely would have preferred PointCrow not treating "autistic" as some sort of slur, but I can appreciate him trying to play it safe if he's not fully knowledgeable about the autistic community and the circumstances surrounding us. Much preferable to him throwing around the word carelessly and spreading excessively hurtful ideas, anyway.
And, of course, I don't mean to speak for the autistic community as a whole - we're all different people with different perspectives, and this is just mine!
As someone who’s made a couple Pokémon hacks, it pains me to see him just walk away from every single post-battle dialog of every random trainer. It’s where half the script and world-building goes in these kinds of story hacks. NotLikeThis

yea, kind of think people assume there's some of that crazy edge from the other hacks but this just wants to tell something more serious. The edgiest it got so far was pretty meh, like a throwaway gag from poorly mistranslated Japanese games.
The woman lets the player tell her either to work for one man, for another man, or as a nurse. She has no say in the matter, whatsoever, and even as a nurse part of the job description is getting ogled by strangers to make her feel better about herself. It's a bit fucked up, no matter your choices.

Honestly….it felt way more weird for crow to skip over the word autistic than to say it - treating it like some kind of slur? The context of that text was the person describing a kid who most likely had some kind of disability/is neurodivergent - there was really no insult….the only thing I can think of is the use of “lightly” in relation to maybe describing someone as being high functioning or not which is more frowned upon
But come on..,,I’m sure there are a fair amount of autistic viewers either in chat or here on RUclips, I definitely wouldn’t want people erasing my own disabilities…
I agree. The other thing that makes it feel weird is that I think the only other thing he has skipped reading was a sexual assault joke. I don't doubt that's a coincidence (is that the right word?), but it does add a layer of false equivalency to how it feels.
Yeah, it was very weird for pcrow to skip it over like that, like the word is some sort of major bad thing equal to the other things he's omitted.
This ROM has a lot of really iffy jokes and he's stated before that if they encounter enough, he might not play it. Crow might've not have been able to tell if it was being used in an offensive way or not quickly enough, so his best option was to skip it.
i get what you mean though, as someone who's ND it's always uncomfy when people treat autistic as a slur :(

Wanna know why I'm a vod frog? I have to pause the video like 5 times for each vod, If I join your stream, you'll be in the middle of something and I wont know what's going on, I can easily rewind or skip ahead if I want(not that I skip ahead very often at all), and most of all, your youtube vids barely have enough content for a series. It's like watching a trailer of a movie and being satisfied with just that. Sure I don't get to talk to you and chat, but it's not like you'd look at a gray name anyway lol.

The romhack is meant to be a darker parody of the original games, it's pretty obvious the actual creators aren't bigoted in any way. In fact, neary every "offensive" joke in the game isn't actually offensive when you examine its context (i.e. the jynx one, autistic red one, etc.)
It's very cool of him to ask if his chat is okay with him continuing to play the game, but saying "yikes" everytime a slightly edgy joke is made is so corny man

Sure it's a little more edgey and dark humored, but it's no worse than half the shit out there today. I may also be biased because I'm extremely jaded, and dark humor is my only humor. I guess if he normally doesn't stream with an 18+ warning on his channel, then I could see it being an issue. But to me it you can't handle a dark joke every once in awhile, you shouldn't be on the internet. Plus it's as easy as just, not watching the content. Why should I have to restrain myself because your candied ass brain can't handle my sense of humor. Just don't fucking acknowledge me. Because if it's your 3rd time tuning in, and expecting a different outcome, You're a masochist, because you like to feel pain and bitch about things you have no control over.
Hmm yeah, maybe that's a sign to stop. Personally I don't mind the lovedisk stuff, I think it fits perfectly in the whole crime and underground scene atmosphere of the game, but seeing you feel so uncomfortable and worried everytime something potentially offending comes up, is a real bummer. I want you to feel great and having a fun time playing, because that's when it's also the most fun watching :3
So yeah, that + having lost almost 2 hours of progress, while I would love to know where the story goes next, I think it may be better to switch to a more wholesome hack
