I love the music and the dancing and it is apparently all top notch, but I wish the person in charge of the camera had included the feet the entire time. The relative videos also disappointed me in the same way. The complete artistry is amazing and the effort in the footwork deserves to be seen.
Wow. Incredible production. Now that is a real piece. The styling and design is impeccable. I really felt like the performers channeled the baroque period better than most productions that I’ve seen. Bravo 👏🏼
@HerrWarja Funny you should ask the question, but what we now call classical ballet comes directly from the court dances of the era of Louis XIV. Louis himself was an excellent dancer who frequently made guest appearances in operas by Lully and others. This was one of the reasons he was so proud of his legs, as one can discern from some of his portraits. For political reasons, It was apparently very important for courtiers to make a good impression as dancers. See the film "Ridicule".
Louis XIV never danced in Lully's opera. He ended his dance career in 1670 and never danced after in public. After 1670, the courtiers didn't play much roles in stage performances, cause professional dancers began to appear, with whom was very difficult to compete on stage.
Such elegance and control, gave me chills in places. Am I the only one who occasionally thought he looks like Rowan Atkinson though? That caught me a couple of times lol
@pfefferfilm In Baroque dance, the placement and movement of the legs / feet are very important, relevant, and pertinent. The port de bras is the accent. It is very true...non-dancer videographers do not understand what other dancers want to see and study, as well as how important the "whole" package is presented. All of the parts play into the final sum/presentation.
The cameraman is doing too much. He is coming from the degradation of the arts, where it's all bells and whistles, because there is no genuine artistry, development, beauty, meaning, and sacred element to the performance. This, on the other hand, is God's breath of inspiration, coming through us humans, his humble vessels (these accomplished dancers in this case) - and expressing such a wonderful depth of meaning, that the audience requires a confident silence from the cinematographer, to set his focus back quite far, to frame his composition so that the entirety of his dancer is in the shot, wherever he might roam, and allow us to watch his tale unfold without changing that set-up. If he'd set up a second camera, from anther angle, and inter-spliced that shot on VERY rare occasions, okay. But truly, seeing the dance, head-on, as if we are sitting in the theater and have a full view of his body throughout the dance, is really best.
what is it with all the long closeups when we want to see the whole dancer not just his ass or upper body. luckily we get to see the musicians some times also..
Absolute perfect! Just like they dance in the 1700! Way this not again made and better filmed? Pitty the ladys dans not so elegance. I made meself a dress with hoople and try to dance like him. Onley not the jump, ill wil break my veet!
Nah. You're watching the French courtly version. At that point it had been sanitised. The original, it is said, came from central America and probably looked much different to this.
@@Michael01093 No, I am not. I am talking about the true origin, of course I am not suggesting Indians had courtly dances. Hence it was described as lascivious.
Both astonishingly authentic and exquisite, a beautiful if brief snapshot of 18th century French baroque dance.
he's so graceful, so gentle...so pleasing to watch

I agree 100%.
Yes - the camerawork is far too fussy and clashes with the stateliness and elegance of the dance.
Wow. Incredible production. Now that is a real piece. The styling and design is impeccable. I really felt like the performers channeled the baroque period better than most productions that I’ve seen. Bravo 👏🏼
Magnificent... what class. Pure and unrivalled majesty.
grazie!!!
A masterpiece of dance performance.
This looks like something Squidward does in his house when he's alone.

The dancing is amazing, but also the band is spot on! Really bringing though on the repeat toward the end.
My intuitive freestyle dancing is very much based on this stuff and I don't care how gay I look it looks amazing and I look amazing whatever the beat
Hey, how is it going? Have not seen new content from you in years.
Quel dommage!!!
J'adore ce siècle - là!!!
Bonne soirée!
Beautifully executed dance. The feet, the hands, the pouse- exquisite🎶🎵🌹.❤

Bro absolutely crushed it! Incredible grace, precision, and control. Wow!
Baroque dance. Impressive!
wonderful style and music, but very poorly photographed. clearly the photographer isn't familiar with filming dance.
I think he/she is trying too hard to be artsy.
I also have this DVD and have uploaded it on youtube . Beautiful dance and music .
Este hombre acaricia con su danza!

More seriously though, his carriage is quite impressive!
Wish we could see a bit more of the footwork
That’s it. Taking this to dance floor at a club near me.
Great dancing, terrible cinematography. Why could I only ever see half the dancer's body? Could you imagine a ballet shot like this?
Perfeito.
It does seem a little pointless to make a video of a dance, and have the dancers feet out of view most of the time!
The Hands! The Hands are where the expression really comes through! The feet are just accents.

from the colors to even the hair of the ladies on the background, ,like a Dutch master's oil painting!!
Thank you, I like this.
I was waiting for the two women sitting down to join in lol
Best Sarabande ever!
Quelle grâce !
Extremely disappointing (and frustrating) videography. Much of this beautiful performance has been lost.
At first glance, I thought it was Robert Downey, Jr. getting ready to dance, but alas...

@lichtbroeder I agree. You echo my own impressions entirely. Best wishes : )
Gaah, who filmed this?! How can you not show the legs at all times when filming Baroque ballet!

This is how the dancing of Michael Jackson and others will seem like to people 200-300 years from now today.
Beautiful

Very elegant fellow.
mind-relaxing party..
What's the meaning behind those baroque hand gestures?
This dance is originally from Brazil.
I mean why bother making such a nice film if they don't do it right..

it was inspired by classical dance or its the reverse ?
Does anyone know what the music is?
This is from the Suite No. 6 in f minor by Charles Dieupart (sorry this is 2 years late!).
It's in the video description.
Not sure, but I think I'm offended.

@mipobrekiss true that hahahaha
Is this how they danced sarabande at court? Looks more like advance ballet
Anybody else see a slight demi god resemblance of Loki here?

It's in 3. Probably 3/2.
I can tell how he did his cravate and how worn are his shoes but I can't say if he danced since the direction is so atrocious.

I read that Sarabande dances for banned due to being lewd?? I didn’t understand until I saw the foot work.
