I find it amusing that the Labour candidate was rejected by the party for anti-Israel comments, but then Rochdale elected Galloway, literally the most anti-Israel politician in the UK.

This is a man who walked out of a debate when he found out his opponent was Jewish, and in 2014 refused to vote on a resolution for the recognition of a future Palestinian state because the resolution also recognised Israel. Only the leaders of the UK and US plus a handful of Western leaders appear to support Israeli war crimes and Genocide in Gaza. When it comes down to it, I would hazard a guess most BRICS countries oppose it and want a resolution, same for in Ukraine. There are actual bad things he's done, like setting up aid charities that don't deliver any aid (other than to his own pocket), working for Russian and Chinese state media, and arguably being supportive of dictators, dog whistling around race, religion, queer people, etc., not really showing up as an MP - e.g. going on Celebrity Big Brother while being a sitting MP. What I find amazing about this by-election, is that it shows that at least in Rochdale, people do not just blindly vote for the major parties. I half expected people to just vote for the Labour candidate because they vote Labour and always have. In a way this actually shows that the voting people in the UK (at least in Rochdale) are actively listening to the current situation around them and responding to it. This is a good sign for the health of our elections, and a bad sign for literally any party in the past who tried to contest this seat and others as now we have more evidence that they just didn't convince people rather than were unable to reach people.
