Judging by how good the lighting already looks in the pre-alpha they probably worked on the engine for a while after RDR2 to keep up with modern standards while doing pre production on GTA 6 and then started the actual development some time around 2019. But that's just my guess.
Most of the files were named with complete dates in their names. There was some footage recorded with a 3080Ti which is evidently newer, and there is also some with a 1080Ti, of course older footage. From what I saw the clips ranged from early 2019 to early 2021

It’s unbelievable how those devs at Valve remade 90% of the game in just 1 year and a few months 😮 under all that pressure, knowing that it’s most probably the end of the company, morale is crushed…..but in the end tuned out so perfect it’s unbelievable. There were like 60-90 people working on Half-Life2. Even though Im a game dev myself working on AAA title, I still can’t understand how they pulled that one off, really talented, smart and dedicated people

Non game devs don’t realize, you need the functionality first, physics, shadows, lighting effects, etc before you actually worry about adding assets to make the map look good.

Pre alpha game of an upcoming game means that they use low poly environment to fully test out the gameplay mechanics and physics. The devs already have high poly models and environment ready. They only build the high poly world when the gameplay seems perfect enough. That's why the pre alpha are also called as sample scenes used for gameplay modification purposes.
I’m not worried about how it’s going to look. I’m worried about the story because we lost the guy that has been writing for rockstar from gta3-red dead 2 Now rockstar has never let me down. I’ve been impressed by all the games I’ve played by them. The last 6ish years have been full of unfinished games being pushed out to us. Like I said though, rockstar hasn’t let me down yet!
He just left earlier this year. Reportedly GTA 6 has been in development since 2014. Planning,m and production are the first 2 stages is video game development. There is no doubt he had oversight over most of the storyline. I do believe GTA 6 will be the last “good” GTA. As far as finished goes I hope to god they are using the 11 years of development wisely and it turns out okay. There is no way they haven’t learned a lesson from what happened toCyberpunk 2077.

It was on gtaforums, people scoured some of the old devs archives from various sites, and although it looks like mod it is V, and even if its fake, thats how it basically looks during early development where they still use GTA IV assets

Pre alpha game of an upcoming game means that they use low poly environment to fully test out the gameplay mechanics and physics.
The devs already have high poly models and environment ready. They only build the high poly world when the gameplay seems perfect enough.
That's why the pre alpha are also called as sample scenes used for gameplay modification purposes.

He just left earlier this year. Reportedly GTA 6 has been in development since 2014. Planning,m and production are the first 2 stages is video game development. There is no doubt he had oversight over most of the storyline. I do believe GTA 6 will be the last “good” GTA. As far as finished goes I hope to god they are using the 11 years of development wisely and it turns out okay. There is no way they haven’t learned a lesson from what happened toCyberpunk 2077.

I like how GTA 5 looked in 2009 as it's clearly still built off the engine of 4 hence the orange lighting on the truck and everything else in sunlight IMO GTA 4 was one of the best in the franchise and it's sad that the orange gritty atmosphere was intentionally removed but in this 2009 footage you can still proudly see it RIP GTA 4
