Located in the centre of Subotica, the Raichle Palace is perhaps the most spectacular Art Nouveau building in the city. Home and work site of Hungarian architect Ferenc Raichle, it is a showcase of his creativity and talent. The structure of the palace includes a mixture of materials such as brick, wood and wrought iron, adorned with floral and geometric motifs.
Raichle Palace is not only remarkable for its architectural beauty, but also for its history, as Raichle invested a large part of his personal fortune in the construction of the palace, which eventually bankrupted him and he was only able to enjoy his architectural dream for four years. After its financial ruin, the palace passed through several hands and uses, including a house of culture during the Yugoslav socialist era. Today, the Raichle Palace houses the Subotica Gallery of Modern Art, and is an important cultural and tourist centre of the city.
