- Moore Marriott was the definitive Old Man of British Cinema, with over 300 films to his name. On what would have been his 139th birthday, Saturday 14th September 2024, the Will Hay Appreciation Society unveiled a memorial plaque on the home he semi-retired to in Bognor Regis, in the late 1940s.
Our special guest was the actor Bob Golding, and after the unveiling we sat down for a chat about his own career, and more about Moore.

As a child I really enjoyed the Will Hay films and his chums Moore Marriott and Graham Moffatt. They still entertain me. I think this is a wonderful tribute to Moore Marriott.
This Actor has fascinated me since I was a small boy. I'm 65 now and love him more than ever. A great actor and a great comic actor too. A true icon of British Cinema.
Such a lovely memorial.
A great tribute many thanks Tom 👍🏼👏
Bravo, you should be very proud, very well done!
Brilliant tribute Tom 👏
Tom that was a fantastic tribute to Moore an absolute film icon Thank you.
It's a pity these films no longer make mainstream TV anymore.
They're occasionally shown on Talking Pictures TV but rarely on mainstream channels
Please keep an eye on the Talking pictures tv schedules, there are a wide variety of films from not only this era but with these very actors. They're a true joy to sit and watch and you would definitely not be "wasting your time "😊
Thoroughly enjoyed this video, Tom, Your dedication to honoring the lives of these great actors from many many years ago is truly inspiring, I really hope the Will Hays Appreciation Society will continue to do work like this for many years to come!
Im 74 loved these Will Hay films introduced to me by my old Dad.,My children now late 30's still watch them bought box sets on dvd for me ages ago brilliant

Looking forward to this Tom 😊
Thank you Tom for all you do for the memory of these greats. Great tribute. My father introduced me to this era of films as a child and I've loved them ever since.
Great video Tom what a chap he was will have to watch Flying Scot again and look at the Will Hey films.❤❤
I am so glad you included Bob Golding's Stephen from Thomas & Friends in the interview!
Thank you Tom for a lovely tribute to Moore Marriott
This is wonderful - to be honest I think MM was a bit of an underrated comic genius, this has made my week knowing there are people out there wanting to keep his flame burning. You should be very proud of what you have done - Bravo
We met up with Tom Marshall at a Model Railway Exhibition in the Spring and he sold us a signal box.
Not just a Signal Box but the one modelled on Buggleskelly of course.
Tom makes superb models based on the great films we all grew up on.
Thank you for a super tribute. David and Lily. Reading or reeding, "cissester Sir"
Green For Danger: tried to race me on my bicycle.
I am 59 and I miss these old films and actors, I don't think today's standard is as good, a lot learned their craft from music halls, were now people want fame straight away, but don't have the class and they all look plastic😢
The great Will Hay films with Moore Marriott in them were just about the best that were made, those without the Marriott and Moffatt less so.
The flying Scotsman film , Was that Ray Milland with Moore Marriot driving the train?
Yes it was, cracking film too.
