Such insightful thoughts about photography! I loved the forest shots and seeing you walking in the forest and forest bathing. Describing the nature photography as a therapy method was a new idea to me. I have always viewed photography more as a mix of technique and art and it puzzles me why I haven't thought before that photography can be very therapeutic at the same time. Because of my social phobia it's sometimes hard to just go out and into the nature, especially when I live in the city. Taking my old camera with me would probably help and I'm going to try that! Thank you for the idea and for the lovely, deep thoughts you shared in the video as well as showing the beautiful Scottish nature! I always love watching your videos, they are beautifully shot and you have a unique way to think about life and share it through your videos. I really admire that and find your videos very calming and hilarious at the same time (loved the ending haha!). All the best!
Aww Dorothea thank you for those kind words!! And I definitely understand your apprehension to go out if you live in a city. I used to be more nervous about it when I lived in Denver, so that's why I first started going further and further into the mountains. But yea, having a camera does help a lot, because people are less likely to bother you when you look busy! 😄
What a joy to hear a softly spoken american with an amazing eye for beautiful things living a life full of beauty! count me in lass i'll watch what you see!
Love your comments about what you look for, and how it makes you feel. As long as a photographer can support themselves in any OTHER way, then the goal of photography seems to change for the better. Good for you.
I do admire those who do it for a living but still keep a healthy relationship with it. To be honest it's the same with any creative career! I have to really work at keeping my art secret. It's more of a challenge since I share a lot through RUclips and that puts added pressure on.
I'm so glad you started this channel in addition to your art channel. I love Scotland, my best memories are of the Highlands and Skye. I was feeling so down today and after I saw your video, I was uplifted. I miss my homeland of Britain (I'm in Arizona now) and it's good to see someone so thoroughly in touch with nature and sharing it so beautifully. You really are so good at videoing, editing and your voiceovers are great as well. I also love your art channel. Thank you!
Oh Sarah. You have to promote this channel. I’m such a huge fan of yours and just today I found this one by mistake. Thank you for sharing your journey, not only your amazing art. Sending you love and appreciation 💞🤗 Ralitsa
It’s always interesting to hear Your thoughts and how You show us how You see the world. Loved to follow You, wanna follow You some other time too! So sad I missed the streaming yesterday! 😵💫😕😭😖🥺
I like this video. The issue of being a photographic hobbyist over a professional is not covered that much. I have had a long life in photography. It was short lived as a professional. I went to school, got a degree in photography. I started working as a darkroom technician for an in-house photography department, I also got to assist the photographers. I worked in a catalog photography studio, and I freelanced selling my photography and postcards to ma and pa motels. I also photographed area city scenes for postcards too. The business did not last long. I felt like a salesman. Every day I made cold calls prospecting for new business. I would be on the road doing sales presentations. When I got the client I would do the photography. If you are working for someone as a photographer, all you have to worry about is the photography. If you have your own business, it is all sales & marketing, administration, and sometimes, photography. After that business failure I worked at jobs not related to photography and I would sometimes do my photography part-time. Now I am retired and I have more time, but I'm not so sure I want to spend my retirement in sales and marketing. When I was a very young photographer, I looked at amateur photographers as inferior to professional photographers. But experiencing many decades of life, I found some hobbyists very serious and quite technically and aesthetically proficient. I have found some professionals not even aware of basic portrait lightings like butterfly, short, broad, and split lightings or even light ratios. I'm glad you are showing viewers that their success in photography does not depend on having clients and making money. Also if you are a hobbyist viewing this video you might be interested in joining the Photographic Society of America. Here is the URL psa-photo.org. Also join your local camera club.
I really appreciate you taking time to tell us your journey! I felt compelled to share this part of my journey because I rarely hear others talking about it. I think most importantly we should dedicate our time to things we truly enjoy. Since I make a living from my art, I work REALLY hard to keep the joy and not resent the business side. But photography brought a lot more social anxiety and so that combined with my other struggles and I just didn't have joy anymore. Nowadays I'm so much happier and truly LOVE photography again!
I get the sense you've walked this planet before! I snapped a screenshot of you from your video and was wondering if you wouldn't mind me trying to draw it. I DO NOT sell my art and a description of the shot will be stated in my sketchbook. I'm trying to learn to draw people. I LOVE your new channel. We are a lucky bunch of followers.
I do my best to cover it up, but if it gets a little wet I keep it nearby a heater at home until its dry. My Canon and prime lenses are weather resistant and have been through intense storms just fine. My Sony Zv-1 and drone have fallen into a frozen pond (with me) and survived!
Those greens are so deep and lush. Its like I could reach out and touch the mosses and feel their softness.
Oh gosh yea it's so vibrant this time of year when everything is freshly bloomed 🤩🌱
@@sarahinscotland Yea you for taking everything you have learned and sharing it with the world

Wow thank you Ruth! It makes me so happy knowing others get the same good feelings I have in nature 💜🌱
The bloopers were fun at the end :-)

Bloopers at the end are killing... 🤣

Certainly! Thank you for asking ☺
Such a beautiful and peaceful video. Loved the end too. :D
Thank you Ellidien 😄
You need an Akubra hat! Aussie cattlemen and farmers wear them in all weather. They'll keep that Scottish rain at bay 😁
Haha true! I like this one because it's very lightweight and I don't overheat :)
Thanks for the inspiration! By the way...why do you choose Scotland to live? Is it because your husband or the nature? Peace!
My husband is Scottish. We both prefer Scotland over America for many reasons.
Awesome video! Question, how do you keep your gear dry in the damp and rain?
I do my best to cover it up, but if it gets a little wet I keep it nearby a heater at home until its dry. My Canon and prime lenses are weather resistant and have been through intense storms just fine. My Sony Zv-1 and drone have fallen into a frozen pond (with me) and survived!
Do you use your Canon D6 for video as well?
If you see my newer videos you see I've switched to Fuji, but yes I did use Canon for video for a while.
Photography hobbo . 😉
