Well I know what I won’t be looking at when I decide to replace my 2017 XT. I already hate the touch screen, so I don’t think a bigger one would help. Bring back buttons.
Same here. When it comes time to replace my 17 XT, if the Forester is still not carrying the 2.4 turbo like in the outback XT, then I'm changing brands.
Such a disappointing release, Subaru has lost its way. No performance increase from the current gutless Forester, bland styling that looks like a Ford and people dont want to control everything through a giant screen. Longer length with the same wheelbase means worse approach angle, and 19" rims are worse for offroad performance. Subaru is creating suburban mall crawlers not adventure rigs anymore. 😢
We are actually losing 2 horsepowers here. Whoever designed this car has got to be planted there to sabotage Subaru. I honestly hate this car. Why do they have to make dumb decisions like this.
How much HP do you need? If you can't drive this thing on the road without having to mash the gas, then you obviously don't know how to drive. This isn't supposed to be a sportscar.
It’s the vehicles first year, next year they are most likely gonna release a wilderness, and yes it has 2 less horsepower, but the rpm doesn’t max out at 5400 rpm but now at 3,300 ish rpm. There are improvements and downsides. Every vehicle goes through that

I don't understand all the hate tbh. This looks to me like an modern interpretation of 2nd gen forester which all of the world loves. The tablet is great for carplay and navigating without any stupid phone holders, sure not having physical buttons for vents or seats isn't pleasing but still it's great! Forester isn't meant for having high power, it's in cars name that it's for people who loves versatility of offroad and city, get impreza if you want the power, Subaru gives you the choice between the models. People complaining about the spirit of Subaru and such, yes it's true they lost it as all other car makers in a way since 2008 because most of them went for cheaper manufacturing cost and it confirmed in expense of the owner because you pay more for car maintenance but give me a car maker that is as reliable and as safe within such price range, you won't find it.
You gotta understand - on RUclips, there are a large amount of Subaru haters that get off by just bashing the hell out of the cars. Most of them will tell BS stories about cars they never owned, ask whether problems have been resolved that were resolved ten years ago, or just spew childish BS about cars they have no experience with, and never had any intention (or money) to buy. Yet, none of these bedwetters can explain why Subaru's sales continue to climb every year, or why Consumer Reports continues to rate Subaru as one of the safest and best cars in the market.
this looks like gen2 to you??. i can appreciate the exteriors of gen1-3. but, i wanna see what the Ioniq XRT is looking like. to be fair, i was just googling how to get new gen seats into a pre 2013 model 😅. interior amenities & stylings are what i like on this. i think the front grill will grow on me. i like the rear taillights. but the silhouette? nah. the contour above the tires? double nah. will we ever get another robust turbo? 🤷🏾♀️ a 2006 XT model was my first Forester experience. one day there may be an EV version with enough torque to make a new Forester FEEL how they used to🤞🏾
“not meant for high power”? you know there was a Forester STI before? do you know Subaru was once proud to make the Forester in a way that WRX & STI parts could be sourced for use in the Forester? you know many people LOVE the turbocharged XT models. it’s not cost effective, but for me, i loved driving the XT for road trips. i felt safer sitting so high up in a car on the highways. it gave me peace of mind that i could bolt faster than most cars whenever i needed it! i’m not a speed demon, but driving a turbo forester is likely the closest i’ve come to holding a handgun-their power makes people feel safe. weird analogy, i know😅. i’ve never touched a gun, which is why i want modern Foresters to provide me with the power & safety the classic models offer. to me, the spirit of •a vehicle that holds it’s own, nimbly & safely-a small SUV that feels like you’re driving car instead of a truck (the way they handle is a big one for me) •forester is: canopy/headroom/visibility, extensions of them being made with the outdoors in mind
No. Hell no. Throw a turbo in it and I consider it. I had a 2018 Forrester XT (turbo) which was awesome. Sadly, my adult daughter needed a car and I gifted it to her a year ago. Awesome vehicle. I now have a 2024 Crosstrek Limited. It has the same 180 HP engine. It is a dog. I’m 72 and have my stupid driving stuff behind me. Trust me. Not enough engine in the new Forrester.
I've owned a Subaru since 06. Always a turbo engine. I need the size of a Forester, not the Ascent. If they are continuing to not put the Outback's 2.4 turbo in there, I'll be looking at other brands when the time comes. AWD, turbo, reasonable price was the only reason I stuck with them. EDIT As reference, I currently have a 17 Forester XT.
For what it's worth, we have the current Subaru Forester with the standard 2.5L boxer. We live in the Rockies and it pulls the mountain really well and is peppy from the start. I test drove the Outback with a 2.4 turbo and was frankly underwhelmed by it. 2.5L was smoother and quicker. All in my not scientific, humble opinion of course. But, that said, not seeing anything that would cause me to swap upgrade from the current model ... the 2025 upgrades are also a bit underwhelming.
@@nickcoleman Thanks for the comparison, Nick! I don't doubt the peppiness of the 2.5 Forester. I had one as a loaner for 3 days. It was a nice driver. However, I'm used to more power. Spoiled with a WRX early on. The Outback Wilderness XT with the 2.4 definitely had a smooth and strong pull. Not great, but it may have to do with the heavier weight compared to a Forester. But comparing 180 to 260hp in the same model, you'll feel it. Plus then the tuneability of that turbocharged motor.
I live in West Virginia and a non-turbo Subaru is dangerously slow to drive here with our hills. I have three Subies and all are turbo. I've been hoping for years that they'd bring back the XT but it seems that will never happen. Seeing the direction Subaru is taking the Forester aesthetically and performance wise makes me cherish my 2008 FXT even more.
@@chrisg3278Oh man, this puzzles me. I love my 2019 Forester but it is sluggish. I loved the turbo engine of the Outback Wilderness loaner I had for a day.
The new color just grew on me, I think it's practical. Since it's not dark, fingerprints and scratch marks won't be visible. Because it's somewhat of a khaki color, dirt and stains would just blend in as well. I think I'll get this new Forester next year to replace my 2019 model.
I think it looks real good. Classy, haters on here want a crazy design off-road machine that would sell 60% less cuz cost. Wilderness package is great and not matched by almost all manufacturers
Looks like a ford explorer filtered through an AI image generator. Not saying it is a bad thing. Definitely will be advantageous for the US consumer. Will there be a wilderness version?
Too boxy. The only feature I like is the front wheel well vents that give it a slghtly quieter ride. Just like others here, I agree that having the HVAC in the touch screen is a MAJOR discration hazard while driving. My 2024 is only a couple months old, so hopefully by the time I'm ready to trade, they will have put the love back into it and listened to long time owners.
it’s nice. gen2 & gen3 are classic. i want to have a modded gen1 someday. you can customize the first 3 styles in so many cool ways! i want a gen1, and an XT turbo gen2 and an XT turbo gen3!,
Agee. It looks to be the same screen as in the current Outback. Many of the functions on the Outback screen are buttons on the current Forester. My neighbor has complained a few times about having to go through a couple of screen changes to do things like turn on the heated seats.
I currently drive a 2017 Crosstrek and love my car. only 100700 miles and am going to drive it until I can't. I am 70 years old and my first car was a Subaru at the age of 20.
I like the restlying of the exterior. I still enjoy my 2020 sport trim level that has almost 80k. I'll run mine until it works no more or becomes too clostly for repairs, then trade in.
Totally agree - LESS TECH PLEASE and bring back buttons and dials - so much easier and less distraction. If I wanted all of that tech/computer screen nonsense, I would buy a TEsla and I will NEVER buy a Tesla. Simplicity and Utility Please. That is what Subaru Brand was built upon. Less electronics/tech means less maintenance costs equals happier RETURN customers.
There are good things here but for the price Subaru is asking for this vehicle, it is very underpowered with the 2.5i 4 cyl and transmission set up. It needs at least a 2.0 turbo option
I have many different opinions. Here’s a short version for whoever cares to read. As a brand ambassador I think it’s great. It’s got the famous AWD, safety features, comfort features and some fancy buttons. As an enthusiast it’s a bit bland (not terrible though!). I think it’s a little bland because I don’t see changes to the powertrain (I stand to be corrected) and no manual option. Also by 2025 some of the features will just be run of the mill. Like the 2024 Crosstrek has the upgraded eyesight along with the Outback sooo why wait with the Forester? I get Subaru's cars are updated every five years so it’s not time for the Forester upgrade yet, however Subaru should just offer it now which would even the playing field per se. As a side note: if you like the dual screens I’d get one now before it’s all 11.6 inch ones!! At the end of the day I’m not sure how I feel! Perhaps it’s just that I love my Subie how it is now and change seems hard (not necessarily bad). Time will tell, maybe the OG Subie Squad is just getting ran out of business 😢. UPDATE: I just saw another video taking a deep dive into the vehicle. Apparently it's still the 2.5 liter naturally aspirated flat four. We went down to 180 hp.
@@smellybearc7411 Some people would really like that! The new thing people are understandably worried about is how this tech will all hold up? Simplifying it would mean that issues would be more mechanical and then DIY fixes could be done easier (if that's what someone chooses to do, it's more budget friendly). As an enthusiast I think the focus should have been on the power terrain, entry and exit angles for offroading, adding a stock hitch, reinforced roof racks, better recovery points and making a manual option!!
@@smellybearc7411 I would say that you are correct with your statement. As far as my knowledge goes (I am no employee of Subaru so I'm limited to my personal research) this is essentially the same Forester as before with the 11 inch screen. The screen capabilities seem to be the same as the other Subarus that have the upgrade. Likewise, the Eyesight system is the newest version of the Eyesight we're seeing in Outbacks, Crosstreks, etc. The video mentioned the foot activated opening gate (the Outback has a similar feature). I will not keep listing things but yeah a lot of stuff is the same. I have heard many people say quite confidently that there will be an E-boxer (hybrid) coming in 2026 along with a Wilderness edition. This is also not new since, in select countries like Australia, had an E-Boxer Forester that was never offered in the USA. Of course we presently have the Forester Wilderness no huge surprise either. This is borderline cosmetic but the entry/exit angles might have been slightly upgraded too, I dunno. Going along with the borderline cosmetic thing, Cargo capacity could have changed. I feel like I caught a glimpse of info about the cargo capacity but really do not recall so please don't quote me there. Are you looking into getting a Forester etc? What's your thoughts? ruclips.net/video/WlQdgLBXTJ8/видео.htmlsi=3xBNLp1uogHwUnss
This new release looks decent in the sport and touring trims with the larger wheels. The other trims look disproportionate due to the large rear bumper and small wheels IMO. Hopefully they fix this in the mid cycle refresh. I also don’t like the elimination of the top center screen which has become a cool unique Forester thing! Otherwise, it looks like good refinements were made, and they kept the tall windows/excellent visibility which is a major selling point. 👍
I know that the 2025 Forester XT offers it...dunno if that's what you're looking for as the Touring is kind of a higher model. ruclips.net/video/WlQdgLBXTJ8/видео.htmlsi=3xBNLp1uogHwUnss
Guys... I need your urgent help. I went to Go Langley Subaru in BC Canada and fell in love with a Subaru Forester Sport. Promised them I shall go back today and book it; and if possible take delivery. I came home and searched for a video to share with my dad back home. I chanced upon the 2025 variant that's just around the corner...as per Subaru, launching in Spring 2024. Now I am totally lost. Should I buy the 2024 or but the 2025? I don't mind the 1000 dollar increase, but the touch screen looks nice and overall the 2025 feels more premium from the videos. What should I do? Thanks in advance
The simulated gear shifts with the CVT diminish fuel economy (especially around town). Let's get rid of the "shifts" and keep the better efficiency. There should be an update made available to revert back to the regular more economical "gearing" (or lack there of), like with my old 2016 Forester.
The bronze wheel and Accent package needs to be allowed on the touring. It would look amazing with the two tone interior with the brown leather and black suite accent.
Upon initial consideration, my thoughts gravitated towards the 2015 Ford Explorer. I would recommend mitigating losses by engaging the services of a skilled head designer. Examining the positive impact on Kia and Hyundai/Genesis sales post head designer changes underscores the potential benefits. While acknowledging Subaru's reputation for reliable vehicles, it's evident that improvements in design are essential.
Surprised by the number of comments dissing on the big touchscreen. WTF??? No performance increase from the current gutless Forester, bland styling that looks like a Ford and people dont want to control everything through a giant screen. Longer length with the same wheelbase means worse approach angle, and 19" rims are worse for offroad performance. Subaru is creating suburban mall crawlers not adventure rigs anymore. 😢
We are actually losing 2 horsepowers here. Whoever designed this car has got to be planted there to sabotage Subaru. I honestly hate this car. Why do they have to make dumb decisions like this.
Needs a diesel turbo.
the forester needs to go on a diet, it looks chunky
How much HP do you need? If you can't drive this thing on the road without having to mash the gas, then you obviously don't know how to drive. This isn't supposed to be a sportscar.
It’s the vehicles first year, next year they are most likely gonna release a wilderness, and yes it has 2 less horsepower, but the rpm doesn’t max out at 5400 rpm but now at 3,300 ish rpm. There are improvements and downsides. Every vehicle goes through that
Love would have put the climate buttons back and added more hp.
A lot of truth to that.
Yea they pretty much destroyed sales of the once great forester by making it the slowest car in their lineup with no powertrain upgrade options.
Back? they never went away
I always wanted a FORD EXPLORER FORESTER! 🙌 DREAM COME TRUE! 🙏
Still happy with my 2018 forester! Looks really neat though! I like the wireless charging feature!
First the wrx becomes a civic and now the forester becomes an explorer
And Solterra is a Prius
@@paraldaspassion a Solterra is a Toyota BZ4X with six stars slapped on front, some plastic, and a fancy button that reads "x-mode" (relax I know there's a few other differences but who are we kidding?)
Ugly, looks to me more like a Mitsubishi...
This is all about global awareness-which is of course bullshit.Same reason they cancelled the STI-too much power and capability for normal humans.
As a WRX owner, I agree with the second part. But WRX is not yet a civic. I would fear it becoming one in the near future
When will the Forester Turbo XT model be released?
EXACTLY
a 2006 XT model was my first Forester experience. one day there may be an EV version with enough torque to make a new Forester FEEL how they used to🤞🏾
“not meant for high power”? you know there was a Forester STI before? do you know Subaru was once proud to make the Forester in a way that WRX & STI parts could be sourced for use in the Forester? you know many people LOVE the turbocharged XT models. it’s not cost effective, but for me, i loved driving the XT for road trips. i felt safer sitting so high up in a car on the highways. it gave me peace of mind that i could bolt faster than most cars whenever i needed it! i’m not a speed demon, but driving a turbo forester is likely the closest i’ve come to holding a handgun-their power makes people feel safe. weird analogy, i know😅. i’ve never touched a gun, which is why i want modern Foresters to provide me with the power & safety the classic models offer.
to me, the spirit of
•a vehicle that holds it’s own, nimbly & safely-a small SUV that feels like you’re driving car instead of a truck (the way they handle is a big one for me)
•forester is:
canopy/headroom/visibility, extensions of them being made with the outdoors in mind
I like it and love the gray color 🎉
Love it too! Actually it’s a new pearl ish gray color called River Rock.
You must have owned an old Subaru
@@smellybearc7411 2009 SH model Forester, yes✨
Ah. A Ford Explorer.
Bingo.
…as interpreted by Toyota
I think some people are forgetting that Toyota does have a notable stake in Subaru….remember the Solterra and the what’s it called? Oh! The BZ4X! 😅
So true…even the shape of their logo! At first glance you will think it’s a Ford.
It ain’t ford explorer it’s like a hybrid like I saw on Google. It’s also like the Toyota RAV4 I wish Toyota made the Rav3. Subaru made the best cars
my fkn god.. this is when ford, toyota and subaru have a baby together
😂
No.
The best way to stand out from the crowd is to blend in with them, right?
@@chrisg3278 🤣 Forester vs WRX is like comparing a tortoise to the hare. I'd be spoiled as well.
Stunning 🤩
Why would you increase the wheels to 19 inches and take away the physical controls for x mode???
Question: How's the noise and vibration doing?
The new color just grew on me, I think it's practical. Since it's not dark, fingerprints and scratch marks won't be visible. Because it's somewhat of a khaki color, dirt and stains would just blend in as well. I think I'll get this new Forester next year to replace my 2019 model.
Yes! I love it!
Does the base level Trim (Convenience) come with a Blind spot warning?
Very nice… I will be waiting
It has to be true love to buy a SUV looks like this.
Glad I got a 2023 and didn’t wait for the 2025.
Same here, perfer the current, smaller Forester
Looks really good - Will we get these in New Zealand??
Any of these models have improvement on road sound while on the phone using the speakers? I'm holding out trading in until then!
Apparently 40% reduction in road noise.
Tell me about the CVT! Did you fix it? If not we'll look elsewhere
Subaru definitely need a better designers in the company department.
What?
I think it looks real good. Classy, haters on here want a crazy design off-road machine that would sell 60% less cuz cost. Wilderness package is great and not matched by almost all manufacturers
Looks like a ford explorer filtered through an AI image generator. Not saying it is a bad thing. Definitely will be advantageous for the US consumer. Will there be a wilderness version?
Subaru did announce that there will be a Wilderness and hybrid version coming soon
Also a VW.
It’s a bad thing.
@@streamingvideo6654what’s a VW?

Do we get a turbo now?
2009 SH Forester Aged the best
it’s nice. gen2 & gen3 are classic. i want to have a modded gen1 someday. you can customize the first 3 styles in so many cool ways! i want a gen1, and an XT turbo gen2 and an XT turbo gen3!,
ALL of Ford's designers watched this video.
If the Red color is available on 2025, We will buy it 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I like this Ford Explorer
If these are going to be available in March 2024, some may argue it's a 2024 Forester.
Agreed; it used to be that the "next year's model" became available in the second half of the (preceding) year. Nine months ahead is a bit early!
can't wait for the 6840000450327525378573656234538576 Subaru forester coming out in June
Can't wait to get one here in the next few months! By Spring!
Subaru's 2025 Forester is the best
I bought a 2023 Touring as I wanted to avoid the large center screen that was coming to the new Forester. Just don't care for that large of a screen.
Now that's Subaru for Life!!!!
I like the restlying of the exterior. I still enjoy my 2020 sport trim level that has almost 80k. I'll run mine until it works no more or becomes too clostly for repairs, then trade in.
Everything but a Turbo. I'll keep my XT Touring, forever, if I can!
Same here!
Missed the chance. Subaru used to be awesome
What year is your touring
I do like my XT!
Feeling happy as an Outback owner
I love it! 🎉❤
Ill be the minority. Can we have less "tech" and more practical tactile things that will age nicely?
I second this statement. It’s now a button 😅
You are not the minority. I think
Makes me appreciate my 2005 @@smellybearc7411
Totally agree - LESS TECH PLEASE and bring back buttons and dials - so much easier and less distraction. If I wanted all of that tech/computer screen nonsense, I would buy a TEsla and I will NEVER buy a Tesla. Simplicity and Utility Please. That is what Subaru Brand was built upon. Less electronics/tech means less maintenance costs equals happier RETURN customers.
And, bring back manual transmissions and train techs to drive manual vehicles!
There are good things here but for the price Subaru is asking for this vehicle, it is very underpowered with the 2.5i 4 cyl and transmission set up. It needs at least a 2.0 turbo option
Wait for 3rd quarter next year.......
I would hope it would be the 2.4 turbo
Will there be a wilderness trim ?
It will be a great car, no doubt
Waiting for the JDM version ❤
I agree. I think they purposely killed the manual transmission
So basically, a downgrade in appearance, a downgrade in horse power. Probably a slight hike in price?
@@smellybearc7411 Some people would really like that! The new thing people are understandably worried about is how this tech will all hold up? Simplifying it would mean that issues would be more mechanical and then DIY fixes could be done easier (if that's what someone chooses to do, it's more budget friendly). As an enthusiast I think the focus should have been on the power terrain, entry and exit angles for offroading, adding a stock hitch, reinforced roof racks, better recovery points and making a manual option!!
@@hypotenuse314 A genuine question. Cosmetic changes aside, is this pretty much the same forester as before?

I have forester touring i love it
Do they still have those troublesome CVTs?
Why sport or wilderness trim cannot choose red color? As a woman likes outdoor, I would like to have a red one up hills
I’ll be waiting THS based strong hybrid powertrain.
Amazing
CD player available? It is one of the main reasons I bought my 2020 Forester.
Was available in my 2021 Legacy XT, it's inside the center console. Hope they continue to offer it.
can Subaru not afford ambient lighting in the front and rear doors or is it too difficult to achieve🙃
My 2021 Forester looks better than new one.
My '16 Forester is a work of art compared to this thing.
Exactly…nothing bad better happen to mine in the next 5 or so years because I don’t want whatever this is 😂
CD included in touring ? please say yes :)
Dear Subaru, is this the 2025 Forester or 1997? You're still using incandescent bulbs for the rear and not LEDs?? 🙃
I agree. They call it modernizing but I feel they just had no idea so they copied 1990s thinking people would call it “new”.
Super 👍
Please add a heated steering wheel option on the lower trims.
I know that the 2025 Forester XT offers it...dunno if that's what you're looking for as the Touring is kind of a higher model.

This couod be a nice upgrade from my 2015 Outback limited.
hopefully the Wilderness edition will look as striking as the current Crosstrek wilderness 🤞🏾
10/10 god that thing is SOO nice looking i want one.
Physical buttons are an upgrade over touch screens, not the other way around.
The simulated gear shifts with the CVT diminish fuel economy (especially around town). Let's get rid of the "shifts" and keep the better efficiency. There should be an update made available to revert back to the regular more economical "gearing" (or lack there of), like with my old 2016 Forester.
I like it.
I think there is no cd player anymore, right?
Cant wait to be release in my country. Hopefully soon!
Merci beaucoup 👍👍👍
same car with more gadgets. thaks, I will wait for toyota hopper
Good lucjk with THAT....
This looks like how I imagine the Kia Telluride would look in 2004
The bronze wheel and Accent package needs to be allowed on the touring.
Yo I was just looking through my subscriptions can anyone explain why i was subscribed to subaru randomly?
nice new ford explorer
any turbo version?
Is the new Forester a good car for fishing?
It does fine in shallow water, but I wouldn't take it out if the tide is coming in....

Surprised by the number of comments dissing on the big touchscreen. WTF??? I guess there’s a lot of technophobic Grandpas out there who prefer touching lots of knobs 😂🤣 I personally LOVE the big touchscreen in my 2024 CrossTrek. It’s fantastic!! Great for maps and navigation and music. But I guess I’m not a knob grabbing Boomer 👴🏻. If you are, don’t buy a Subi!! I’m sure there’s a great 1972 Ford out there for you 😂
Love the Forester - hope you make a Wilderness edition!
I miss knobs and manual transmission. Maybe you could make a "prepper" trim level. An animal trim level would be nice for people with big dogs a Subaru you could hose out!
Same here….2018 was last year of manual transmission
If they keep the touchscreen for the 2025 Legacy/Outback models, I'm switching brands. You hear that Subaru?!?!
You have to be an OWNER first before you talk about "switching brands".
Ok Boomer! 😂👴🏻. Personally I love the big touchscreen that I have in my 2024 Subi CrossTrek Limited. It’s awesome with Apple or Google Maps and tons of other stuff. It’s the year 2023 - touchscreens are the future, Grandpa! 👴🏻 Go buy a 1980 Ford, so you can man-handle all the knobs you want 😂
I have a ‘23 Outback with the big screen. It’s fine. Nice actually. Most everything I use daily is right on the main screen and there are hard buttons for climate temp/defrost and radio tuning/volume. People would complain Subaru was behind the times if they didn’t use this system.
Hopefully will add better sporty colour choices
My 2017 Forester XT is fun to drive, practical, and good fuel economy. Current non-turbo models are doggy! touch screen controls are dangerous to use while moving because you have take eyes off road. Knobs and buttons are better for frequently used controls.
I love it
