Wizard of Oz is a lot of fun to perform, but seeing Wicked was beyond phenomenal. The staging, the music, the twist on Wizard of Oz. It changes you for good, and that isn't something I can say about the classic Wizard of Oz.
Wizard of Oz scared the crap out of me as a kid and still creeps me out. My friend dragged me to Wicked and I loved it. Ended up seeing it 2 more times after that, so for me, Wicked is the winner 😃
Look, I loved The Wizard of Oz as a kid and I’ll always appreciate it for being the film to make me love musicals and adventure stories. But now that I’m older, I can’t enjoy the way I used to. Wicked is far more engaging to me and gave me a song that always lifts my spirits when I hear it and one of the best love songs I’ve ever heard.
Wizard of Oz of course. Edit: I keep getting the Venom movie as an ad and now I'm tempted to watch it. So maybe can you make one of "Best Marvel Movies"?
@@manuelorozco7760 I don't remember who my Galinda was, I think it was Megan Hilty, but I know my Elphaba was Julia Murney, they were fine, but they just can't be matched. I went to the TV specail last year, and seeing them Perform Wicked songs again was a dream come ture
@@Dangansona my Glinda was Annaleigh Ashford, Stephanie J Block, the OG before Idina took over was my first Elphaba or Wicked witch of the west. I love both the 1939 wizard of oz and wicked. Wicked is much better at explaining how the 2 met before the 1939 film.
Sure “Wicked” owes “The Wizard of Oz”, but in my opinion, we have a tie. Both have wonderfully presented values, like self worth and self love in The Wizard and acceptance and friendship in Wicked. But the roller coaster of emotions in Wicked gets me so much deeper than The Wizard will ever do ( I mean from “The Wizard and I” to “No Good Deed” and “For Good”)
I admit I saw Wizard of Oz when I was a little kid only to not see it again during my childhood and barely remembering it till I saw it again in middle school but man even then Wicked has always held a very special place in my heart. In fact, the very own album itself is my favorite album that I ever owned EVER! I LOVE THAT ALBUM SO FREAKING MUCH! In my opinion, Wicked is FAR BETTER than Wizard of Oz, but I also understand that Wizard of Oz as much as I still love it yet love Wicked better is far more of a classic.
@@SillyCreatureSally Exactly. You don;t have to relate the two. I love both, but for different reasons. I don't bring my view of Wicked into Wizard of Oz and vice versa. Two different worlds and will stay as such.
ME: *looking at the thumbnail* This is gonna get ugly. ALSO ME: *after the video* I still find it hard to decide which is better. It's like choosing a favorite between your children!
These musicals are both fantastic! Having grown up with the Wizard of Oz, I can still sing almost every song word-for-word - and I can now do the same for Wicked. There really shouldn’t be any comparison. They are both outstanding in their own right, each telling the same story but from a different perspective, making each a certified wonderful experience! I thank God I’m able to enjoy BOTH of these terrific shows!
Was it ever a doubt? The original has a far more rich history than Wicked could every hope for. Plus, you cannot beat out that iconic song but man, Gravity is definitely a fun song to sing aloud though. Thematically, Oz has a more hopeful message thats just too timeless.
Personally, wouldn't a comparison between Wicked and Oz: The Great and Powerful have been more appropriate? After all, both deal with the early days of the Wicked Witch.
any people who have no clue about wicked or idina menzel they would have seen the clip of idina singing for good and be like "wtf who is this crazy woman. isnt the green one meant to be singing" lmao
Am I the only 1 that liked "The Wizard & I" more than "Defying Gravity"? Also IMO the prequel to The Wizard of Oz (Wicked) is better than the sequel to Gone With the Wind (Scarlett)?
I can definitely see your point about The Wizard and I. It's a more focused I want song for Elphaba that Defying Gravity really builds off of and works better with.
I think no good deed was the best and most challenging song because there were such hard notes spread throughout the song and when she sings, she sings with emotion.
I feel like wicked should have won the characters section because in the wizard of oz, there isn't much dimension to the characters but I think wicked is about characters and character growth. How Elphaba is at the beginning, middle, and end of the play is completely different. The same for Glinda
I can only say that I want the original musical cast of Wicked to be back in when they make the movie. I know there's concerns for aging and how their voice changed but I want a second chance to see that chemistry!

One of the cut songs, The Jitterbug, you can watch on RUclips, with some deleted scenes. And of course everyone knows Elphaba is played by Idina Menzel, the voice of Elsa in Frozen. She's also Maureen in Rent.
I'm an Oz fan through and through, but since I first heard Wicked (still haven't gone to see it) I can just say I enjoy Oz and everything to do with it even more. So, I prefer both!
Wicked has a far more dynamic characters. For instance they all go through some type of major shift. The wizard of oz. Has a lot more basic and shallow characters that don't do though such dynamic changes. So the win goes to Wicked. The Music win also goes to wicked obviously. The Wicked is applicable to all ages where as the wizard of oz is just a childhood movie. So there for the plot is better. A lot of movies have tackled be your self. And I find Wicked as a better theme. Wicked will always be better.
The Wizard of Oz can be appreciated from many levels- symbolic, cultural commentary, comedy, drama, a snap shot of vaudeville, cinematography triumph, psychological commentary, etc. - whereas IMO, Wicked is mirror a straightforward story which has not so many levels to be enjoyed. The Wicked book has more, but most of that hot flattened out in the stage adaptation. For example, the Dragon of Time, and all that it symbolizes, is referenced a few times, but it's not really incorporated into the play as much as in the book
The Wizard of Oz will always be my favorite storyline because it's about a person who is not from the land of Oz and is looking for her way to get back home and during her stay in the land of Oz gets to know new characters who become her friends and thus fight against the evil witch of the East and also learn important things in life, be brave, be smart, and have a heart. I never saw the musical Wicked but i do know the song "Gravity", but i will see the movie Wicked that comes out this fall of 2024 and see what the story is about, but the music will never pass the classic song "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" to me.
i much prefer Wicked than The Wizard of Oz, because Wicked explains the real story as to why and how Dorothy got to Oz, and plus it explains why Elphaba is obsessed with the shoes. Plus Wicked gives the true backstory on the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion.
The character round should have go to wicked. You finally understand why everyone is like he is because of wicked. Not the way around. Really weird reasoning here. Wicked is a way better and deeper story. Not a childs tale like the wizard of oz.
Manon Oudenampsen well that was the point of wizard of oz a family film and wicked doesn’t introduce more character it’s almost the same characters while the wizard of oz have more fun and entertaining characters
I believe with out wicked we wouldn't have the many true happenings of other Francis's of villains, as well as other beloved stories. I love both the wizard of OZ , and Wicked , Both are great stories, but wicked for so many of us is about expecting others who are different from normal society, and of course friendship .
Agree! I love Judy and she made the movie so much better! Are you gonna see the new movie about Judy Garland coming out called "Judy" ? Renee Zellweger is playing her
Sorry Broadway Kristen Chenoweth and Indina Menzel but in my eyes nothing beats The Wizard of Oz and Billie Burke and Margaret Hamilton will always be the true good witch of the north and the wicked witch of the West
I may be very wrong but I’m sure wicked’s “Thank Goodness” is a take on “Ding dong the witch is dead” with the same hook and “One Short Day” is a take on “Merry Old land of Oz”
The Merry Old Land of Oz is my second favourite song in the movie, my favourite being If I Only Had a Heart. The former is great, because I really enjoy the scene, and green is my favourite colour. If I Only Had a Heart is the best in my opinion, because not only is the Tin Man my favourite character, but I'm also a HUGE fan of Jack Haley (who played Nick Chopper, by the way).
You forgot one of the most important moments/morals of The Wizard of Oz. "Who would have thought that a good little girl like you could destroy all my beautiful wickedness?" Never underestimate the power of a good little girl to combat evil.
As a theatre Kid who grew up with The Wizard of Oz coursing through my veins curtesy of me being introduced to it when I was three or four, there was always something intriguing about Wicked. I appreciate the classics but Wicked has always been so much more appealing to me because of the extent of the characters and plot. Especially all the twists and turns throughout the musical. It, along with the incredible music, always has me on the edge of my seat. I saw The Wizard of Oz differently after watching Wicked, especially because I now know that the Scarecrow is in love with the Witch. Also I love Idina and Kristin. Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk

As you do you must do the inner work Jesus Christ taught. Start with forgiveness. Parents are easiest. Look inside for the grievances we all build up their and practice forgiveness inside your heart. It teaches your soul something important, heals parts that have become clouded.
Please trust me.
If you genuinely open up your heart you discover the truth within.
Jesus Christ is lord.

So basically the entire video is:
Wicked is amazing but wizard of Oz came first so we’re gonna give it the point
It's true. But it is also true lol Without The Wizard of Oz there would literally be no Wicked.
It's part of the age of remakes and adaptations.
The Wizard of Oz is nothing but a horror movie
I just saw the mushkin got hanged the Tree
Happy Wizard Of Oz 80th Anniversary everybody 👠 👠
I like "wicked" more then "the wizard of oz"

Same
There even for me because I grew up watching The Wizard Of Oz, but Wicked is amazing 😍🤷🏼♀️
@@jadon121 alwhats the difference
Nope
Look, I loved The Wizard of Oz as a kid and I’ll always appreciate it for being the film to make me love musicals and adventure stories. But now that I’m older, I can’t enjoy the way I used to. Wicked is far more engaging to me and gave me a song that always lifts my spirits when I hear it and one of the best love songs I’ve ever heard.
Wicked’s SoundTrack is Fire 🔥
Sarahí Mendoza nope I love this music too
Sarahí Mendoza yeah it is. I actually met Idina Menzel and she was so sweet. I thought she’d be taller though. She was short.
Not as good as the Wizard of Oz soundtrack though
I'm seeing Wicked in November!
I'M SOOOO EXCITED!!!!
💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
THAT'S AWESOME, WHERE? On Broadway? or local THEATER?
@@ThisSongILove It's on Broadway in New York!!! 😁💚
BeanBag343 you’ll love it
Edward Jacobus I know. I saw it when it was on tour here in Virginia
Edward Jacobus it’s ok
Wishing nonstop blessings to whoever is reading this. Be well and don’t be a stranger ❤️

Both are amazing. I love Wicked very much, and I always think about it when watching wizard of Oz and vise versa
Dorothy: "There's no place like home..."
Elphaba: "Oh, there's no place like home! "
Wizard of Oz of course.
Edit: I keep getting the Venom movie as an ad and now I'm tempted to watch it. So maybe can you make one of "Best Marvel Movies"?
Msmojo: Wizard of Oz is superior
comment section: so you have chosen DEATH 💀
Wizard of Oz IS better tho
Wicked will always be my favorite over Wizard of Oz. I love Wicked’s story better than Oz. :)

Look up "The wizard of Oz" on Google and tap/click on the ruby slippers to see some magic! You'll thank me 😉
We thank you very sweetly!

That's so awesome, I've never seen that before :)

WOAH!
Dancing Through Life is my favorite song in Wicked 💚
If you like a song, why not sing or dance along. I love to sing along to my favorite Frozen song, but only when i`m alone and no one can hear me. Hehe
Omg same I love it so much it needs more recognition
I have two favorites songs in wicked "What is this feeling" and "defying gravity"
kitty DA COSPLAYER i saw widked 2 weeks ago and im obsessed with what is this feeling!!
I LOVE WICKED and wizard of oz! Cant wait for the Wicked movie Dec 22 2021
Tye Noe I’m so there
I wanted to scream when I found out about the Wicked movie!
Is it actually happening this time? There has been talk for the last decade!

@@kp4692 no its not
I can't handle seeing Elphaba & Galina be anyone else but Idina Menzel & Kristen Chenoweth
Dangansona The first time I saw the show was Eden Espinosa and Megan Hilty
@@manuelorozco7760 I don't remember who my Galinda was, I think it was Megan Hilty, but I know my Elphaba was Julia Murney, they were fine, but they just can't be matched. I went to the TV specail last year, and seeing them Perform Wicked songs again was a dream come ture
Dangansona That’s Awesome. The For Good Group, Idinas Defying Gravity solo and Ariana Grande doing Wizard and I were the best parts
Wicked is still playing in London west end. (Well it’s on hold due to covid but will be back on as soon as it can)
I prefer wicked over wizard of oz.
I dint even know wicked existed before this video and I know for a fact that the wizard of oz is more of a classic
Here's my thoughts: one can be without the other, but both enhance each other. (omg I just realized like Glinda or Elphie)
Although i love the wizard of oz, Wicked is always better!!!
My Favorite songs are "somewhere over the rainbow" 🌈and "defying gravity"💚
Once yo seen Wicked can you really go back and look at The Wizard of Oz like you did before?
staggmovie no
True
I don't know, because it's not canon.
@@SillyCreatureSally Exactly. You don;t have to relate the two. I love both, but for different reasons. I don't bring my view of Wicked into Wizard of Oz and vice versa. Two different worlds and will stay as such.
@@hailsaep13 Thanks. I was starting to worry that nobody believed me.
For the record, Jitterbug and Over the Rainbow (reprise) are both in the stage adaptation of Wizard of Oz
You need to read all three books in the Wicked Trilogy. Dorothy is only a minor character in them.
I think wicked is better simply because its a lot less 2 sided, everyone has more depth and the plot is a lot deeper
Ms Mojo wants the Wicked musical movie adaptation too. I'm really pissed with Universal for filming Cats first rather than Wicked
Was it ever a doubt? The original has a far more rich history than Wicked could every hope for. Plus, you cannot beat out that iconic song but man, Gravity is definitely a fun song to sing aloud though. Thematically, Oz has a more hopeful message thats just too timeless.
After "Wicked", we'd see Idina Menzel as Elsa in "Frozen" and Kristin Chenowith as Maleficent in "Descendants".
A lot of people are forgetting the fact that if the 1939 movie never existed, Wicked would not be the same story as we know it now.
I want to see Wicked (musical) vs. Wicked (book)
It's very different...there is so much that was left out of the musical but they are both pretty good
Omg I finished the book a couple of days ago and just watched the movie last night (the wizard of oz) it's like Ms Mojo is reading my mind ❤
You friendly reminder that elphaba "the wicked witch of the west" is 21 years old-
I love wizard of Oz I always watched it it's so good and the famous OG
Snow White's! The most iconic Princess of all time. Voice actress was in this. 11:56 There she is. (EDIT:just now sorry.)(Adrianna Caselotti)
Personally, wouldn't a comparison between Wicked and Oz: The Great and Powerful have been more appropriate? After all, both deal with the early days of the Wicked Witch.
Yesss you're so right!!
Really looking forward to the movie but I'm scared it will turn out like cats😂
When my sister did “The wizard of oz” at her high school, she was in the ensemble, she was a tree, a poppy, and an oz girl
well wicked was inspired by the wizard of oz to tell the story from the pov of elphaba the wicked witch of the west
any people who have no clue about wicked or idina menzel they would have seen the clip of idina singing for good and be like "wtf who is this crazy woman. isnt the green one meant to be singing" lmao
Am I the only 1 that liked "The Wizard & I" more than "Defying Gravity"? Also IMO the prequel to The Wizard of Oz (Wicked) is better than the sequel to Gone With the Wind (Scarlett)?
I like no good deed best
I can definitely see your point about The Wizard and I. It's a more focused I want song for Elphaba that Defying Gravity really builds off of and works better with.
Defying Gravity are just as powerful as my girl, Elsas Let It Go and it`s even the same actor singing. Cool.
@@OleHolm-sq7yj I completely agree, and it's nice to see that Elsa got the happy ending that Elphaba would have wanted herself.
I think no good deed was the best and most challenging song because there were such hard notes spread throughout the song and when she sings, she sings with emotion.
Wizard of OZ will always win
I feel like wicked should have won the characters section because in the wizard of oz, there isn't much dimension to the characters but I think wicked is about characters and character growth. How Elphaba is at the beginning, middle, and end of the play is completely different. The same for Glinda
Me before watching vid: Wicked! Wicked! Wicked!
*Watches Vid*
Also me: Awww! Why Wizard Of Oz?

10:37 the stage version includes both of these songs
The wizard of oz revolutionize the industry and is the most known american fairy tale.
Suggestion:
Differences between Newsies 1992 and Newsies 2012.
Like if you want to.
i much prefer Wicked than The Wizard of Oz, because Wicked explains the real story as to why and how Dorothy got to Oz, and plus it explains why Elphaba is obsessed with the shoes. Plus Wicked gives the true backstory on the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion.
No, it doesn't.
Pay attention to what I am about to say, please. Do I hear an "ult-roger"? (Ultra Guardians fanatic mode enabled)
Jack Haley played Nick Chopper.
Just because something is a children's story doesn't mean it's not a deep story.
You do realise Wicked isn't canon,
@@SillyCreatureSally literally how is it not if it was based off of a book 😭😭
@@blueorangeade3357 Because the MGM film was all a dream, a very strict instruction for the producers.

The wizard of oz vs return to oz 💁🏽♀️😉❤️
The wizard of oz was shown in the uk today i love it
I believe with out wicked we wouldn't have the many true happenings of other Francis's of villains, as well as other beloved stories. I love both the wizard of OZ , and Wicked , Both are great stories, but wicked for so many of us is about expecting others who are different from normal society, and of course friendship .
kristen rock yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssss
I've seen wicked on Broadway twice and I used to rent the movie from the library all the time as a kid I love this story so much 🤧
I should do a vs for Oz the Great and Powerful and The Wizard of Oz. I think that tells a good story about the Witches
14:10 knew it was coming, was waiting for it, was not disappointed 😂
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite books ever 💝 prefer it over Alice's Adventures In Wonderland TBH
I may or may not be binge watching your videos!!! This one is one of my favorites!!
The Wizard of Oz first because JUDY GARLAND!
But seriously there would be no Wicked if there hadn't been The Wizard of Oz 🤩

Amelia Schuster when does it come out?
@@quinnhouk5369 the movie comes out September 27th, 2019!
Exactly!
Amelia Schuster cool. That’s 10 days after my birthday
I going to forever be mad at the fact that those shoes could have taken Dorothy home at any point.
Sorry Broadway Kristen Chenoweth and Indina Menzel but in my eyes nothing beats The Wizard of Oz and Billie Burke and Margaret Hamilton will always be the true good witch of the north and the wicked witch of the West
Damn straight
I like Wizard of oz and Wicked were both azaming.
I haven't seen Wicked yet but I would love to see it someday.

This should’ve been “Wizard of Oz review” not “Wicked vs Wizard of Oz”.
