Are there any good alternatives to styroplast that aren't super expensive? One thing I like to use is paper mache clay by ultimate paper mache here on youtube. It isn't outdoor/weather proof I don't think, so if anyone knows any alternatives, perhaps one we could mix up ourselves to save some of the cost...

@karawalkerdesigns167 what was the clay likestuff you put on by hand? Was THAT the styroplast? Or the stuff you painted on over it? I'm making an inspired version of your mushrooms out of food grade plastic barrels that will be nesting boxes for my pet geese. Lol. So they have to be sturdy and I'm loving the look/texture that mixture gave.
@@kathryncipperly137 It was EasySand 20 joint compound. Then she used the sponge to smooth it out. That doubled as a surface to bond the warts to, which were made out of the joint compound as well. Let dry and then coat with Styroplast. You wouldn't need the joint compound if you weren't doing the warts.

I coated the mushrooms with Styroplast. A 2 part epoxy coating this is smooth like plastic which gives a more realistic look

What glue did you use that didn’t interfere with the hot knife?
(And what was that paste you coated the caps in?)
The glue was Foam Fusion by Hotwire Foam Factory. It was coated in Styroplast by Hotwire as well

Styroplast contains isocyonates which can kill you. Correct PPE would be an air fed mask, suit, gloves and eye protection...

how strong is the coating of ez carve + styroplast? if you dropped a hammer on it, would it leave a dent?
It’s not as strong as fiberglass. A hammer dropped on most coatings will leave a mark
