I think for Zipcaster to be ACTUALLY a good special, they need to tie its duration ENTIRELY to the ink tank. I think it should last indefinitely until you have drained a single tank's worth of ink, with each zip utilizing about 1/6th of your tank. This would allow players to take their time and zip to advantageous positions, while not having to worry about wasting the special.
I don't think they'd do it sadly, knowing Nintendo. Is there even a way to give them feedback and for them to hear us out?

Honestly, Zipcaster during the High Jump Challenge should just be the regular Zipcaster. Give it that jump height please, it was so much fun!
Zipcaster is the most fun special in the game imo so I’m hoping the devs retry it on another weapon that also gets a fun sub like fizzy or smthn cuz casually, sprinkler doesn’t do too much either :
ive been noticing this too, after playing a ton of undercover and blast I've realized that slider is way more useful at getting value than zip, zip is simply a movement tool but you need to be able to do stuff with it in order to justify it, but it simply is not worth it most of the time, while, yes, you often die after using slider, you also get a huge explosion that will, at the minimum, paint a huge area, and at most, get a splat or two when used right, or even set up chip damage with its huge 70dmg hitbox.
I always felt zipcaster was overrated even on its really good weapons like octobrush

@@Linkathon I think the fact the main is one of the best main weapons in the entire game makes them very careful about what subs and specials they give it. Like Dark Tetra was originally going to get the S2 KDualies kit in S2 (suction + baller), and Light in S2 would’ve originally had Splat Bomb launcher
@@sonicrunn3r895 I don’t know though because they gave splatana wiper 180p missiles. And wiper is also one of the best main weapons. They just hate dualies. I mean, look at dapples.

Amen to that. I already play Glooga Dualies, and that weapon is outclassed ten fold. Light Tetras not being as good is just another -Tuesday- Wednesday. I’ll never go back to those Splashdown days again, and no fancy rework will make me turn a blind eye. At least back then it was cooler than sliding toward your grave on a literal pool toy. Light Tetras forever. ❤
Tbh the only reliable thing about zipcaster is the free ink refill lol. I wish they'd reduce the air time after a zip and increase the zip range a bit just to make it feel less like a "die for free" special in certain disadvantageous situations...
In my opinion I like Zipcaster tetra But To make the light tetra better I think they need to buff the zipcaster and Sprinkler to make the Synergy For light tetra Better Than Before
Tbh I love both Tetras but I will say the light is way more map dependent than dark is, which is not a bad thing imo because I get good use out of both kits. I’ve already 5 stated the dark and I’m in the process of 5 staring the lights
It synergizes best with maps that have a lot of height dynamism like Floundering Heights. Problem is, most of the maps in S3 are designed with minimal dynamism, mostly flat tetrimino shaped maps.

I think for zipcaster to be a good special, it needs to be invincible while zipping, not while shooting, but while flying, it makes it so hard to use when you just get sniped out of no where when you’re zipping towards something that isn’t even close to the sniper. I’ve also been splatted by a splash wall while zip casting through it. I also think the duration should only go down when you zip or shoot, not just go down automatically and not as fast as it does

@@Ninja_Tribe if they are gonna make it tank reliant, they should make the duration rely on the tank entirely at that point. Either that or get rid of that mechanic entirely and just make it time based in use. Having both doesn't work well.

I’ll never understand why people thought for a second that sprinkler is passable on tetras or just dualies in general
I think zipcaster can be good, but having no AOE thanks to sprinkler is what really kills it. The kit is basically only single target now and can only apply pressure to that one target. Dark Tetra having autobomb and reef as AOE options and distractions while being a great single target main weapon add to its versatility.
I had a feeling light tetras werent going to be that great, as someone who pushed 4 star dark tetras
I tried the light tetras but I've found that reef slider is more useful. With the light tetras, I moved away from using sub buffs because I just don't use sprinkler almost at all and then I started playing other weapons w/o using my subs. Its like when switching between splatana wiper standard and deco and in a face to face fight, I throw down a beacon instead of a torpedo. That's just embarrassing and that ink lost is devastating and usually ends in getting splatted.
I wouldn't mind armor back if it chained like bubbler

Despite being... Quite decent? At tetra Dualies and zip, I do have some friends who play stamper and have even attempted to use white tetras cuz of their zip experience; to quote one of my friends, zipcaster is probably one of the hardest specials in the game, since you need to know when, where, and WHY to use it - ya can't just activate it as soon as the gauge is full all willy nilly. For me personally it does have good use for my playstyle, since when I started I just rushed in and hoped for the best, but with zipcaster it forces me to be more strategic with my use of it, which I love - despite running mainly qr on my builds, dying is still going to cost me a lot of my special charge, so I need to be even extra careful than how I usually would be when playing dark tetras.
I wish they buffed the ink tank usage honestly, it would make I. Far less of a pain; but maybe I just need a bit more training with it to use it properly :'D
You're so right about it being one of the hardest specials in the game. I really love zipcaster because of it's skill expression and movement, but the value you get out of it is so inconsistent. It really does need some kind of buff to the ink tank, I feel like the special runs out as soon as I consume enough ink just to zip + dodge roll to an enemy to kill them

I think the changes that would really help it are
Of course, I think you could use better frame data in general. Make zipping 5 % faster, make it to where once you land on a surface you can come off it slightly sooner. Make the jump higher( like this last challenge levels of high) and fall much quicker
But the most important change is to give the user timer based armor when not zipping. Like one the come off the surface the casted to, they get like 2 to 3 seconds worth it armor that wears off or is broken. This gives the some décence while not sipping but will still leave them vulnerable if they go too long without zipping again
A lot of people want zips duration to be tied to how much damage it takes or only to it’s ink tank and nothing else(basically they want it to be impossible to get splatted while using zip caster) but I feel like this change will really help with its vulnerability and consistency issues
And the zip caster user is still completely splattable while zipping and when they first hit a surface
The thing with Zipcaster rn is that even if you're playing it cautiously (like not attacking rollers, sloshers and beign careful about chergers and splatling) you still can randomly die sometime. It's probably the harddest special at most levels of play and probably the most unreliable one
i dont think armor or stringray should be added back mostly because they were too busted and game breaking but also allowed to invalidate some weapon classes namely chargers

id like zipcaster more if being splatted while using it just recalled you back. as a slosher main, zipcaster on bucket really isn’t ideal due to how sluggish bucket is when firing. Zipcaster really needs more to it honestly.

Yeah I agree since dark tds is a quick respawn type of weapon w reefsilder you can get a quick kill or 2 but with zipcaster well it doesn’t really fit w the weapon still a good special overall tho 😄

As a fellow tetra main I personally think that either bubler or krakens would both be better than zip. As bubbler is essentially a big field where you can roll around as much as you want without being hit, and you can hold it in enemy lines for better skirmishing.amd kraken would be a great special to get in or out of enemy lines and could splat lots of enemy players bc it’s kraken.
I want an answer on this: would you recommend a kit for one Anarchy Mode and another kit for another Mode? You obviously love Dark Tetras for Tower Control, but imagine Light Tetras for Splat Zones. Now which would you use for Rainmaker, or Clam Blitz?
Honestly I see it, zipcaster is not great right now and sprinkler doesn’t help it, and honestly your more likely to survive and get a kill with reefslider then Spider-Man 😩 and honestly tetra zipcaster is on of the hardest things to do at less for me 😢 I hope Spider-Man gets a buff next patch (edit: let’s just be real chase’s new PFP is adorable 😊)
It’s either painting special with bomb or agrro special useless sub so make up your mind for what you want to do in which mode
The most funny part to me is that Tetras don’t need a lethal bomb. The main weapon is one of the best MAIN weapons in the game (ignoring subs and specials). Decent fire rate, great mobility, no ink efficiency problems, suspiciously long range for a slayer weapon. As for its weaknesses; Tetras don’t need good DPS because they’re not trying to pop the Rainmaker shield, they’re trying to splat the enemy team as much as humanly possible. Tetras paint may be not the best, but it’s serviceable and EXCLUDING ZIPCASTER, has never needed to paint for a special anyways. The end lag after the dodge rolls is not a big deal, players picking Dark Tetras over Light is living proof that they don’t mind standing in place due to end lag because Tetras die A LOT, not matter the outcome.
Chase, if you could make a new type of dualies/splatana, what would it be and what would the kit be?
I actually never switched to light tetras because i am really not competitive i only play turf war and zipcaster was roo hard for me to actually master so i will use it go straight in and i will die because i didnt know how to use it well so i resorted into using dark tetras with reef slider to kill and ink the map

And here I was knowing Dark was better than Light, never really thinking zipcaster would work that well with it. Opinions have changed, I like Light now, but not more than Dark.
It's a fun kit, but you just get more value out of the normal kit. Plus with tacticooler meta, you can make a lot more riskier plays with it's special now.
I think one of the reasons why Zipcaster isn’t good rn is because the special isn’t countering nearly as much Crab Tanks as it did before, in other words Zipcaster was somewhat decent before because of Crab Tank meta.
I really wished light tetras would be good, I even made a whole ass gear set just to match the weapon... Atp I just wanna 5 star the weapon and then stick with dark tetras, I really hope sprinkler/zipcaster gets a meaningful buff next season cause light tetras just don't really feel fun to play anymore. The point you made about dying in zipcaster like 3/4th into the special is true cause I feel like more often than not it serves just as a distraction while reef can pretty reliably get a kill or two (not to mention zone cheese). However, I'm more hopeful as compared to S2 cause I think that with a meaningful buff to zip light tetras could become good again. I'm gonna keep my hopes up for my favorite weapon design-wise!

well the thing is its good against chargers mainly but chargers arent common rn, bp can just turn and shoot you before you can kill them as long as they have some awareness so zip isnt great against them

Pro players don't know absolutely everything about the game and can't perfectly predict how good things will be. They're pro players for their Splatoon skill, not for seeing into the future

Nah this switch-up is insane. Zipcaster is a great special and much better than the Suislider. Sprinkler may not be lethal but killing is the main weapon’s job, it can still paint and block shots for you.
Autobomb is better but all it does is detect sharkers, and again Reefslider is just a Zones special and situational on certain maps. Both Tetras have their own uses and saying “oh well the sub is crap and I keep dying with the special so it’s trash” is a shit excuse. Light is overall better, end of story.
Pretty much all of the top tetra players (players way better than me) only use dark now in comp and completely abandoned Lights. They also share a lot of the points I made in this video. If you disagree maybe go ask them 🤔 but the best of best disagree with you lol, that is the end of story
Also, autobomb has way more uses than what you mentioned. Yes, it tracks, but it can also be used to help pop a rainmaker shield, be thrown at a splash wall to give you a better matchup against things like 52 and squeezer, be thrown at a crab tank, can provide reliable chip to assist you and teammates... the list goes on. And don't forget that it's, you know, lethal. It gets very cheesy kills fairly frequently. Sprinkler does literally none of these things. It is genuinely one of the worst subs the weapon could have.
