Certified teacher here (although working in a different field now). I homeschool one of our two children. ADHD is really tough at school, especially for boys. When you have a child who just doesn't fit in the box and you've tried several different settings, sometimes you just have to do what is right for your child - and for you. The best part about it is the ability to structure the day in a way that meets different learning styles. For example, our biggest struggle when he was in traditional school was math, but it was almost always at the end of the day. At home, math is first. We are both fresh and ready to tackle it, and his medication is most effective. We take a lot of quick breaks during the day and have a lot of social opportunities, too. While this is absolutely working for him, it's not easy for me. I work for myself at home, and juggling homeschool and my own work project is tough sometimes. I press on because ADHD is really strong in our family, and some of our family members carry emotional scars from struggling big time in traditional school and I started seeing those things happen to my son. Also, I just thought I'd add that I was a juror for one of your trials years ago and would definitely recommend you! Thanks for the fun series. It's a delight!
This actually sounds exactly like what happened to my fish when a friend fed it too much. So the shredding of the fins is typically characteristic of fin rot. There are a variety of different anti-bacterial/fungal drops to treat it at pet stores or Amazon. I believe I used methylene blue, but some recommend erythromycin. Whichever one you choose, add the amount of drops it says on the bottle for your tank size. Then do a partial water change every day for the amount of days the bottle says treatment should last (this part is definitely a pain). I think I did it for at least a week. Hoping for quick recovery!
As an American who has been in the 3rd world for over a decade, I can't imagine sending my kid to a school where they practice being killed at school 3x a year. 😱😭 We can literally see increased depression and suicide after these drills. If i ever went back to the US, I'd consider homeschool just to avoid all of that.😢 I would never have imagined being safer in the 3rd world and I'm so happy my child has an innocent carefree life with the low bar of not being scared of being murdered at school. 😢❤😢🥺 I wonder if Americans are just frogs in a pot who can't tell how hot it has gotten, if they don't care, or they can't see a way out. You guys are very sweet, good luck!! Thanks for sharing
Mike, you are a very lucky man. Ashley, I love your sense of humor and ability to fluster Mike when he has a smug look, especially on the homeschool subject. You make a great couple and a great podcast.
We have a program in our school district where they're home 3 days and in the classroom 2. Best of both sides. We get to sleep in and start class late some days, they get to go to school and leave us in quiet while they play with friends
Stop it. Seeing you two so happy together is making me happy. Wait, that's something I haven't said in a long time. Honestly, I think I had forgotten what that felt like.
I really like your videos man! I found you a while ago on shorts and started watching your old videos. You are entertaining and easy to listen to. Btw. I don't know jack about law and I'm from Europe (Poland) :D I hope you read this while on the throne :D
Now knowing you don't drink coffee both of yall should consume a Timmy Ho's large double double then record, I feel like that would be highly entertaining to have you both bouncing off the walls. And daddy to 2 cats, bonded pair.. and they are probably easier to care for than the fish. And Head is a GREAT name for a fish.
My daughter will not ride the bus! She'd literally be on the bus for no longer than 15 mins round trip! The school is less than a mile away! It takes longer to warm up the car! So happy that i have remote start!
I grew up in a pretty busy area, bus ride was 15 minutes due to being close to school, and always took the bus. We didn't see much use in driving when there would have been the line of cars we'd have to wait in, and we were paying for the bus anyway so why pay for that and gas to sit in a car.
Wow i would have loved a 15 min bus ride! 😭 In jh and hs until I got my own car I was on the bus over an hour every day for what would have been a 20 minute drive!
Fish are NOT easy. They are WAY more work than dogs. You're dealing with Nitrite and Nitrate levels. It's a difficult thing once it runs away. You've got a fish swimming in what is basically piss and shit. It is experiencing organ issues. It happens regularly. Goldfish can live like twenty years. I've worked in the industry, and people just don't have the time to keep these as pets. It's a full time job sometimes. You're doing fine.
I was out on my own at 17 (not a great family life). With the state of the world today and my lack of a good family life, my kids can stay forever as long as they start contributing to the house once they've finished college (unless they start working straight out of high school). I currently have a 22 yo who pays rent (we are a family of 5 so 1/5 of the house expenses). A 13 yo and a 9yo. -on the topic of the fish, take out all of the decorations, boil what you can before putting it back. But beta fish are usually pretty tough fish so maybe you just got a defective one.
I am a Metro Atlanta resident and wanted to share your law firm's details to a friend but your website is currently giving privacy error. Could you please get it fixed? edit: nvm it was my office vpn causing the error
Does the betta have the "mold" look on it? I think it might be ICK. There's a medicine for that. Homeschooling: Have to respectfully disagree with Mike on his views. Yes, there are some..."a little TOO normal" folks out there in the homeschooling community but by far we're just like any other group. We socialize the kids with group sessions or playdates or whatever. The crap Mike is talking about ("socializing" in high school hallways) is one of the things we were glad our kids never had to go through, especially since I was a punching bag in hs. And now with school shootings? Thanks but no. Also bear in mind that homeschool kids (at least in my state) are held to a higher standard when it comes to graduation levels and access to college grants but the "higher bar" is laughable because public school bar has to be set low enough for those students to pass. (e.g. here, a student has to have an ACT score of at least 19 to get state tuition money but a homeschool student needs a 21. Frankly, if you're not making at least a 21 on the ACT, you should probably reconsider college.)
I feel like I have to apologize. On the second word, I was also thinking of vacation, and I feel like I have to apologize for picking the same word your wife. I literally didn't mean anything by it. I just thought pet's car. Oh, you're going on a vacation with the family. I know you probably don't care, but it was really awkward to me.
I can’t back homeschooling as an option personally. I’m sure it can benefit some children in certain situations but teachers often are often children’s main contact if they are being abused at home. Similarly it’s a very easy way for children born to parents of extremist / cult views to avoid their children gaining a wider view of the world and helps those manipulative groups maintain control. The US has a horrible safety issue with school shootings which is insane to me but, frankly, how you all handle guns is the solution to a lot more of your issues than sending your kids home.
Ashley & that random dude's podcast returns!
😂😂
I kind of like that random dude though. Might keep him. 😜
"How hard can fish be?" Is the most naive thing I've ever heard Mike say.
You guys are a great couple to watch. Very relatable. Very down to earth. Awesome back and forth.
I'm gonna be honest, I didn't think I'd enjoy your podcast as much as I do. I find myself looking forward to each episode
Ha! We didn’t think we’d enjoy making one as much as we do. Thanks for watching.

I really enjoy Ashley's podcast!

Y'all are perfect for each other. Thanks for making me smile today 💙
Parents do not always know what’s best for their kids… they do know what’s easiest for themselves.
New coming into this but I love it thus far ❤ having her as an equal and balancing input is just chefs kiss

Bro, you should’ve just got the dogs. How did you complicate pet fish?
Most comforting podcast on the planet. Love it.

You're doing fine.
Ironically, orange juice is not that much healthier than Coke. Tons of sugar either way.

4 or more dogs is too many

Well the whole neighborhood has too many dogs!!! Over 20 dogs from 7 houses
Juice isn’t a healthy choice it is the same as soda pretty much
