The thing that I simply cannot live without in my guitar case is a GUITAR :-) Of all comedian in this world, your truly decided to chime in. Keep up the good work. I enjoy immensely TAC and Acoustic Tuesdays.
I hope I'm not the only one who keeps an Altoids tin in my case. It is the ultimate pick and capo holder. I also keep a soundhole cover in mine. Haven't had to worry about feedback since getting it, no matter who is working the soundboard.
Tony my boy. You hit the nail on the head with George and your comments about being in a band. It has almost nothing to do with being any good. I will apologize for this long response up front. I am now 70 years old. I started playing drums at 12 years old. In 1962. I had wanted to play since about 8 or so. This was about the time The Beatles started to change the world. Starting in about 1963 I spent 8 to 10 years totally focused on playing drums in, basically, the same band that never really achieved greatness. There were four of us. One guy was my future brother-in-law. Over the years a new member would come and go but the four of us were nearly always a part of it. Eventually we all realized that we didn’t have everything it takes to be professional musicians and wandered away from the band. I never quit playing drums. I sat in for a couple of bands early on but was never a member of another band. I recently retired from a long successful career as an offshore structural designer. But inside, I am a musician. I have always been a musician. I have always seen myself as a musician. Being in that band, long, long ago, shaped my life. I don’t think this is something that can be explained to non musicians or people, that have never played in a band. I am the last man standing. My three steadfast band mates have all passed away. As a side note. I started playin guitar a couple of years ago as an endeavor to keep my hands and brain active after retirement. Got hooked on fingerstyle acoustic almost from the start. I’m a big John Fahey and Jack Rose fan. I have collected a few not very expensive guitars. I need to get a t-shirt and send a picture. Sorry for the long post. I enjoy your channel!!
My must have list is Primetone 2.0mm thick picks that I reshaped to a slightly rounder tip, and made the bevels a little deeper, a D’Addario capo with adjustable tension, and a glass slide for playing bottleneck. Going to buy a set of Santa Cruz strings this week to try them out, that s for the recommendation!
Was just at a worship service and my 9volt died. Fortunately I always carry an extra 9 Volt because you never know. Whew!! If you play electric acoustic, I would definitely have a spare. Especially if your last name is “Murphy.”
My current model of Larrivee has the battery case inside the guitar body and it’s very inconvenient to remove the strings first in order to replace the battery. Can this be relocated to be mounted on the sides?
@@mutangpadan5311 I’ve heard of people installing preamp controls and battery cover on their guitar along the guitar sides and I even think there are videos on RUclips showing it being done. I wouldn’t want to try it on a nice guitar, but I have a Martin that has an LR Baggs with same inside placement of the battery and I have to do the same thing you do. Not convenient at all.
@@despurvoa3 thanks for the advise. I’ll just have to go the extra mile of checking the battery at home before I leave church. My Larrivee is too good to be punctured with another wound on its side😀. Bless you bro. From Malaysia.
I use two types of coin pouches to carry my stuff. The first is that old school leather with the spring steel to keep it closed. Works great for capos and picks. The second is a larger renaissance fair coin purse like thing with the leather draw string that can hold everything else, tuner winder whatever. Everything is protected separated and has no chance of wiggling out of the case pocket.
I keep a bottle of virtuoso cleaner/polish in a zip lock bag with a microfiber cloth. I have used a lot of different cleaners and polishes but I’m plugging Virtuoso. It’s awesome for nitro finishes and can be used for others as well. Tony, I like the photo idea, that’s important.🎶
Just bought an 05’ Santa Cruz PJ guitar on Reverb that has the SC parabolic strings (low tension) and I am loving them. After a couple of days of playing my new toy I ordered up 3 more sets. About to string up my Taylor 522 - 12 fret with them. If you like finger picking , you should give these a try. Also, a quick shout out for this Santa Cruz PJ parlor guitar. I have been simply blown away by it. It’s my first SCGC but I doubt it will be my last. The second set is going on my Rainsong parlor that I take on my travels.
All of the above {pic being that of my cat...family IS important} plus cleaning cloth, clip tuner and an all important Silica Sound #425 in green. Absolute best slide I've ever used!
Hey Tony!!!! I loved the "what's in your guitar case" segment! I was surprised to learn that with the exception of the thumb picks, I actually have all of the above in my case as well.. (Well, not every case, but most.. lol!), right down to the family pictures. There were two other items that I also have: a cleaning cloth and a St Cecilia (patron saint of musicians) prayer card. Thanks for the segment... I'm looking at adding a Native Sons' guitar strap to the collection... Pretty nice looking straps, and I always love your recomendations! Thanks again!!
The same 9 things but totally different brands (I couldn't guess the tenth but I love the idea - i'll copy it) and I also add a microfiber cloth, an extra battery, a tuner (clip and/or pedal), electric extension cord, 2 jack cables and a paper setlist! Great show as always!
You must have big accessory pockets in your cases Tony… I’d love I could fit so much stuff in my Martin case ;) I cannot leave home without the Martin suede strap, a PolyTune headstock tuner, a Paige capo which fits greatly just behind the nut if it’s not in use and fits that Martin high performance neck perfectly. Plus some flatpicks, thumbpicks and so on. Great overview! Keep it coming! And yes, the GrooveTech cutter is the best! On another note, thanks to George for his moving story. And it’s very true about the relationships made through music. Playing in sync must somehow make the brains sync also outside the practice room and away from the stage! All best from Denmark.
I like the family pictures idea Tony! Night have to steal that. I keep guitar cleaner, cotton microfiber rag, bluechip TD-60, Paige capo, hygrometer, humidifier, Martin medium phosphor bronze strings amd a string winder in my case.
Boveda humidifier im using it for years and it was really awesome. But i also have the hygrometer to monitor the relative humidity on the area where i store my guitar. And for me that is the best way to maintain your instrument inside the case. I dont know if its just me but i used to store my hardcase on a standing position my reason i really want to avoid any pressure on the neck area and keep the string tension on a "drop D" tuning-
I have capo, strings, and picks as well, but also a cleaning cloth. But here's the surprise, I keep BluTack also as I have dry skin and the finger picks keep slipping off. So, a little BluTack (Australian product?) inside the picks keeps them firmly in place. Not too much or it oozes out onto strings & guitar.
A must have for me is a clip on tuner and a wiping cloth. I have almost everything else that Tony suggested except my tools, winder and wire cutters are in a fanny pack.
The most important things in my case are extra strings, and a fast fret tin of assorted picks for others. There is always folks that seem to need one. I have other essentials in my case, but these are the ones that seem to be most needed. I don't mind giving a package of strings to others that need them when getting together. To me, it's just part of helping another player out. When you see a newbie with either dead or a broken strings, it helps keep them "in the game" and they won't miss out on an opportunity to learn.
I'm with you on the Elliott Capo. I watched a video of yours a few years ago and have since ordered an Elliott Capo for every acoustic I own. Tonally to my ears they're in a different league to all others I've used - and I've used most. It's the first thing I buy when I get a new acoustic guitar
Ok Tony, the only things I would add are a tuner and cleaning cloth. As for #10 I guess you'll have to send me pics of your phamily to include in my case. I don't have any of those photos at this time😆
I was on pic quest last year and now use Chicken Picks Badazz 3 3.2mm. Awesome plectrums. Oh I always have a slide in there too. I don’t play slide but it’s there just in case a get the inclination to start. Lol
Craftsman 45664 5 inch nose pliers (also has wire cutter built in) - works awesome for cutting wire and bending tip down. Music Nomad winder and bridge pin puller... no more losing the pin inside guitar. The winder has soft rubber jaws that don't "clank" on your tuning peg, and ball barrings so it's smooth as glass.
I don't keep all that much in my case, usually only a capo, tuner, and microfiber cloth. I play fingerstyle with bare fingers, so no picks. I keep my other items in my gig bag, like my strap, nail clipper and file, extra strings, string cutter and winder, extra 9v batteries, extra cables and connectors, etc. I also keep a notebook and pen in my gig bag in case I get an inspiration to write a song or two.
I always enjoy the guitar news you can use. My one comment is about the price of guitars. A sub $2500 guitar is a lot of money for a guy who has been playing less than 3 years. I can't justify that expense at this point in my guitar journey. I would recommend a show on guitars in the sub $1500 range. What would you pick?
Good show Tony, Like you, I'm also a Hockey Fan. Each week you have on a different Jersey /sweater. Jerseys like guitars, have stories. I like to see the Jersey you have on someday share it's story and your connection to it.
Always in my case: A-440 tuning fork. Yeah, it's old school. But not only does it get your guitar in perfect tune (if you know how to use it), it trains your ear. I prefer the K&M rectangular 4x6mm.
In my case, actually in my guitar, is a D’Addario Micro Soundhole Tuner. I find these so convenient - it’s always ready to use and not hanging off the headstock, which I hate the look of.

One day one of the PM's was listening unknown to me while I was struggling to get my chord changes smoother. He walked up, threw a few dollar in the case and said "Here's towards some lessons...." lol
I think that pick is a .80 mm. That’s what I use anyway. I also like to buy variety packs of picks just to try different types. The most important thing in my case is my guitar. I can’t even glance at it without picking it up. Probably why I don’t have a girlfriend.
i can't even fit a strap in many of my acoustic cases. Help me if you can, I'm feeling down, And I do appreciate you being 'round Help me get my feet back on the ground Won't you please, please help me?

One day one of the PM's was listening unknown to me while I was struggling to get my chord changes smoother. He walked up, threw a few dollar in the case and said "Here's towards some lessons...." lol

I think that pick is a .80 mm. That’s what I use anyway. I also like to buy variety packs of picks just to try different types. The most important thing in my case is my guitar. I can’t even glance at it without picking it up. Probably why I don’t have a girlfriend.
According to blue chip, the number represents thousands of an inch. A number 40 pick is approximately 1mm.
Cool I never knew what the number really meant but I like the medium picks
