They are going to have to restrict these things...fine that he's driving it but 200kg @ 30kph + small child = a big 'ol stain on the pavement. At least limit these things to a walking speed.
It's only a matter of time before he gets pulled over and told he can't drive that anymore. You're not even allowed to ride an electric bicycle in most cities, unless they can also be operated by purely pedaling. This is a tiny electric car, not a mobility scooter. Looks like fun though!
Bicycles are suppose to ride on the road not the sidewalk. This device is much larger than a bicycle! In fact it is much larger than my Dad's mobility scooter which isn't much larger than the seat. It is clear that the elderly need mobility devices like this that are safe for them to drive and get around in all weather after they are no longer able to drive cars due to health concerns. However they should not be allowed to drive these devices on sidewalks especially a 4 door variant. Where does it end? Sensible regulations are needed. A vehicle of this size, weight and speed is a hazard for pedestrians. What is a pedestrian pushing a baby carriage around a blind corner suppose to do when one of these vehicles comes flying by a 30kph???? Someone is going to die and it would likely be a newborn infant.
They don't operate in snow or ice, In icy conditions you just stay home. They weigh over 500 lbs and should stay in bike lanes or pull over and stop when pedestrians are approaching.
It’s not a scooter, it’s a mini electric car. I had a neighbour in Hamilton with a similar one to this. I can understand his desire to have it but it should not be classed as a scooter and really should not be on the sidewalk and should be on the road. Like a bicycle it is not allowed on the sidewalk at least here. Then this raises the question of if he can’t pass a drivers exam why can he drive this?
First, I agree. Those should be reclassed, perhaps as a mobility scooter, type B or something. Then with the restriction that they can only be driven on the street (perhaps bike lanes???). We saw these at Gage Park (Hamilton) this summer. The guy trying to sell these claimed that they are legal and classed as scotters. I challenged him on that, to show government documentation that this was the case. Of course, he could not, because, at least at that time, they were NOT classed at all! I do hope that the gov. will class these so that they don't need a license to drive, but perhaps need insurance. Although, as I type that, I can imagine the insurance companies frothing at the mouth on being able to rip off seniors! As for your last point, if these are or will be classified as mobility scooters, then, as right now, a person does not need a license or pass drivers' exams to drive them. That's already the same for E-Bikes too. Out in BC, I can see these being a year-long thing, but here, in Ontario, OMFG.... winter would be a major problem, especially in Hamilton where the city doesn't plow laneways and such. A lot of people, us included, have a garage that is on the laneway. I have to snow blow it. Although, last winter was so mild I didn't even prep the snow blower. LOL Also, those things are WAYY over priced!!! Espec. coming from China.

A couple of people in my town have one person versions of these. It is a small town with no taxi or public transport. It allows these people rain or shine to go to the grocery store, the pharmacy and the post office independently. We only have sidewalks on a couple of main streets, so they drive on the road where pedestrians also walk. Also it tops out at 30 doesn't mean the guy will always do it. It's like saying everyone who owns a supercar is always going to do to speed. Those things usually have horrid suspension going over 20 would prob start to hurt after a while on sidewalks.
They are going to have to restrict these things...fine that he's driving it but 200kg @ 30kph + small child = a big 'ol stain on the pavement. At least limit these things to a walking speed.
@@egg-roll8968 starts as 1 then its hundreds all over the damn place. woweeeeeeeeeee difficult concept. get the f off the sidewalk.
That's a car, shouldn't be on the sidewalk
It's a mobility scooter
Someone is going to die and it would likely be a newborn infant.
it could tip the world on it's axis and god knows where we will end up! In a ditch in Russia! Right beside an empty bottle of vodka! Oh dear...
Looks like were going to be needing wider sidewalks in Kelowna?
Haha , not enough roads for vehicle traffic .😁😢
Going to need snow tires pretty soon 😂 sweet ride!
They don't operate in snow or ice, In icy conditions you just stay home.
They weigh over 500 lbs and should stay in bike lanes or pull over and stop when pedestrians are approaching.
@ what if you run out of hot chocolate ?
Drive as much as you can before you turn 80 , I guess .😂
I am trying that method.
LOL
Also, those things are WAYY over priced!!! Espec. coming from China.
So where is the line between mobility scooter and this? A roof?
@@brucecook Perhaps a vehicle limit of 400lbs, a maximum speed of no more than 120% of the average adult walking speed of 4.8kph, and a vehicle width, including mirrors, not to exceed 60% of the sidewalk width is a reasonable place to start a discussion.
The widespread dissemination of poorly informed comments is astounding. The exhibition of such ignorance is concerning
These should be mandated in the cities. No need for large vehicles full of nothing clogging up the urban areas.
Just perfect for 15 Minute Cities, which I'm sure you think is some far-Right conspiracy theory.

Here in the Netherlands, you see plenty of those vehicles. Elderly people and Young people as well. They have to apply moped rules, and are allowed to drive on the street at a max speed of 45km/h - Prices 17.500 - 30.000 Euros

That's nice they can do an enclosed scooter with heat for the elderly. I cannot imagine them going to Walmart in the freezing cold. It's hard if you have been independent then have your driver's license taken away like my father did. The scooter was his main mode of transportation to the grocery store, but it was a killer in winter. I love this.

I saw the scooters out on streets in S'toon winters, wasway back in the '90's.
Oh my god where do you get it
I wanna know too
Don’t know how many jurisdictions would allow this on public sidewalks. Who pays when he runs over someone or hits something, Insurance?
Who backs up when you meet another one?
Does an oncoming pedestrian have to jump onto the road to let this scooter pass?
A couple of people in my town have one person versions of these. It is a small town with no taxi or public transport. It allows these people rain or shine to go to the grocery store, the pharmacy and the post office independently. We only have sidewalks on a couple of main streets, so they drive on the road where pedestrians also walk. When they drive on main street they vary between the sidewalk and the parking lane depending on where they are going. Everyone is mindful of one another.
"Everyone is mindful of one another." Now, that is a beautiful statement.
@@Alex_Mitchell I agree, if there aren't a lot of people, and infrastructure/services isn't there. This can work. @@SamBao No argument here. I was thinking of the statement, "Everyone is mindful of one another.", in a more general sense. In our currently chaotic world it would certainly help if we were all a bit less self-centred and a good bit more mindful of other people.

I can see how this would work for this couple. He and his wife lost their drivers licences and they need a way to get to the grocery store. They want to be independent. On really bad days in the winter it probably would not work that well but perhaps a friend or family can help out on those days if needed. @@don-cw1yz To be clear, I like these mobility devices in the right usage. For indoors or on sidewalks they should be banned. Use smaller slower mobility devices indoors or on sidewalks. Perhaps a weight limit or size footprint limit or moving through pedestrian sidewalks and malls. at least malls are wider in the main halls but when you get in stores they are once again too big, let alone the 4 door version that is up and coming.
