One of the best all round review I have heard so far. Even more impressive is the fact that the reviewer seems to be very well informed in the basic culture of Jamaica. A very intellectual perspective of the movie. Kudos to you.

this film and its success reflect the image of Bob Marley. The Babylonian establishment (critics) rejected it but the people embraced it. The stone that the builders refuse....

I really enjoyed the movie to be honest. The movie was just what it was supposed to be A Movie. It opens up the door for people to do their own research if you want in depth detail of his real life.

Exactly! You can’t encapsulate this man’s life in one film. It definitely opened my eyes to recent issues in our world’s history.

Great review man honestly been curious about this movie as such as yourself I have known of Bob Marley but never knew about his backstory so this is one I do want to check out glad you enjoyed this one

I highly recommend you go check this out. I always knew what Bob Marley represented but this film made it so much more apparent. Not to mention I share a lot of similar beliefs with Bob Marley that I never knew about so I may be biased. My only qualm is how he impacted Rita's life in a specific way. If you watch the movie I'd love to talk more about it!!!

Just came home from watching this film tonight & I must say that I loved it, but the storytelling structure was a missed opportunity. If this film had a linear storyline, this would have rival Bohemian Rhapsody as one of the best biography films of all time. The flashbacks that we got during the film (without warning) massively hurt the film for sure but if the production have had the story structure that carried the film telling this rich story from beginning to middle to end, a rag to riches tale if you will, the ending would have landed its finale without pain. We didn't get that. All in all, I loved the film, I totally loved the soundtrack (duh) & I will still buy this on 4k when it comes out, but I wish this was perfected a bit more before release.

I'm curious to know more about your issues with the linear structure. I found this movie to be very linear as it spans from the late 70's to early 80's. There are certainly "flashbacks" to Bob Marley's childhood and I was very fond of the practical lighting techniques they used in those scenes. As someone who's ignorant to Bob's lineage, I found the build up of his past and frustration with his father quite remarkable. That hurdle he had to endure with accepting who his father was, in my opinion, was a major lesson in Bob's journey to uniting both political parties towards peace. I much prefer this style of story-telling than I would some blatant exposition. But again I'm curious as to what you would've preferred to see in more detail!

I'm glad you enjoyed it as well! The manner in which each song is used felt appropriate. I don't understand the negativity surrounding this movie... As you mentioned people wanted more, but do we really want to see a butchered story of Bob Marley? I really enjoyed that the filmmakers focused on the late 70's early 80's portion. The story was solid and the actors were great despite not being Jamaican, which the filmmakers tried their hardest to incorporate. Ziggy did a great job producing this for his mother and father.

I pre bought my tickets because I was not going to be left out. I will give it 95% because I wanted a bit more cement. The patoi was excellent. The influence Rastafari, Marcus Garvey, Rita his family and friends had on his life was well done. I would rewatch.

bit late watched during march but, I really enjoyed the film with knowin a bit about him I thought it was a good introduction to him the past present thing reminded me of the beach boys love and, mercy film where we focus on brian older and, brian younger during the pet sounds album. I also thought some of the shots were super intresting as well. and, they also foucesd on some studio work which music boipics rarely do I thought that was awesome too see as a music fan. for me I think the over all message was peace and, love and, hope and, for marley it was peace music and, finding his way back home as well

It’s never too late to watch a good movie! Glad you liked this one I really liked the production of Exodus and seeing discussions behind it at the studio.

The Marley's only wanted to focus on certain aspects of his life, Bob as an already established musician/artist, the attempted assassination on his life, the recording of the album Exodus and he and Rita's relationship.
    Edit: Great review btw.
