I do need to work on getting the correct speed before cornering though, I had a bit of a realisation on that very point today on the trails but I am a noob so it takes time for all these lessons to sink in :D
Travis Cleary I was down at a local jump trail in a wood that a bunch of teens have done a good job of building but they have also completely ruined it by leaving beer cans and broken bottles all over the place, I almost stacked it landing a jump because I had to avoid a broken bottle. Makes you wonder why you’d put so much hard work into making decent jumps to then ruin the lines with large bits of litter🙄
RIP MisterBassBoost you might have popped the bead off the rim which causes for the tyre to be bent. So deflate the tyre, squeeze it then bend it to the centre of the rim, pump it back up to 50-55 psi you should here popping noises of the tyre getting on the bead of the rim, leave it overnight. The next day ride it hard with it at high pressure and the next day deflate it to the normal pressure you run. It should be fine if not just get a new tyre.
RIP MisterBassBoost it should be safe, just it wont be so comfortable and it will be slightly more dificult to control the bike. Depends on how much the tire is deformed.

There is no where to move on a single track! It's so difficult to pass during races and people are so oblivious. Make all the call outs not even a response with warning.
That thumbnail is hilarious! Blake barreling through the banked turn, butt glued to the saddle sitting totally upright, arms fully extended with locked elbows... 🤣🤣 I'd seriously be willing to fork over some of my hard earned money to have that on a T-shirt or poster! Another great video. Nicely done boys!
Angus Hunter - I try to be in the right gear at the right time, but when I'm tired I can mess up and clunk the gears. Its usually your not going fast enough to shift up so you are changing gears under load
I recently broke the two finger braking habit. I just moved my leavers further in. At first it felt a bit weird but after a while I forgot I even moved them. In fact I only realised I moved my leavers when I watched this video again.
me too, sometimes even 3. I just think it's a matter of getting your brakes up to date. older models will touch your other fingers when braking if you use one hand and it won't be enough
Only recently was I able to successfully adopt 1-fingered braking when I bought a bike with SRAM's Matchmaker. Prior to that, if I wanted my shift levers in proper reach, the brake levers subsequently came too far in and aligned more with my middle fingers and using a middle finger by itself was too weird. Thanks Matchmaker! After 21 years of riding, now I'm a cool, one-finger kid!
i need new brake pads. I use up the back brake after probably only a few months, so then i’m stuck with only the front brake. soo, to use the back brake i. anyways, i might convert it to a 1x drivetrain.
I remember how someone stopped in the middle of the track, AROUND A CORNER! I came flying around the corner and straight into the other guy. Ended up breaking my arm...
Estiaan du Plooy Good for you, it serves you right for riding recklessly when vision was reduced. You weren't on a race track. There could have been a spill with a kid on the ground. Two months later, a broken arm, possibly an injured victem and you still haven't learned it was your fault. Glad you ride a bicycle instead of a motorcycle.
Why are you assuming he was riding recklessly? Here in the real world, cyclists riding a mountain bike on bike trails are not going to slow to walking pace for each corner just in case some idiot like you is standing in the blind apex picking dingleberries out of their ass crack. If you don't like that there are several options to consider: a) Stick to hiker-only trails b) Keep your ears open and excercise some trail manners and basic common sense c:) My favorite: stay home! There are enough assholes out there already. One fewer will not be missed.
When you flub an uphill trail feature where it's hard to regain momentum, instead of trying to remount right away, consider moving to the side so your buddy following behind doesn't have to put a foot down right before the difficult bit. You screwed up, so you jump back on after he pulls through, keeping the ride moving and giving your friend the chance to attempt to clear the feature. Maybe he fails too and you both have a laugh.
Think of it as like a clutch in a car . Back off the power ( like depressing the clutch) as you shift gear then get on the power once it's in gear ( you should always be spinning though) .
Guys! I went out and tried it today and it DOES make a hell of a difference and it actually feels much better to not be grinding the gears! Thanks a lot Gabriele, Paul & edmundscycles!
A bad habit I have on my mtb is usually skidding around corners far too much. I've gone through 3 sets of tires in 2.5 months. One set used to last me for more than a year😭
DISCLAIMER about 2 finger braking: *WELL MAINTAINED BRAKES* don't need multiple fingers. If you're using some caliper brakes who are worn, and the cable isn't exactly taut, then use as go ahead and use 2-3 fingers as long as you can maintain control of the bike.
You nailed it on the head with fellow riders who don't carry any tools, spare tube, or a pump! Just because you're tubeless doesn't mean flats can't happen! If I give you my spare tube, what happens then if I flat?!!?!? THINK! Don't be THAT guy/gal!
Great vid guys! Littering is unforgivable. If you decide to litter, then you are simply a terrible person and I see no reason to bother riding with you. No excuses. None. Zero. I've definitely been guilty of more than one finger on the brakes on bikes with poorly setup brakes that need a tighter squeeze. Have seen people get taken out after stopping in the middle of a steep trail... Wasn't pretty!
Reading some of these comments reassures me that seeking sweet , serene solitude and avoiding places with lots of people at all costs is the best way . I don't think I will ever visit a proper track park . Sounds like it's hard work .
I've crashed hard 3 times, and been hospitalized for two of those. Doctors agree, I'd be a veg if it weren't for a helmet. I can remember blacking out the first time I hit a tree, dead on with my head. Second crash I had to swerve to avoid getting hit by a car that ran a light. Fell over and my head hit the curb. The helmet exploded into a dozen pieces. You only get one head. It's worth protecting it. At least do it for the people you ride with. No one wants to call 911 for an avoidable injury.
I feel less aware when I wear a helmet. Helmets have always been a big distraction for me, except for my motorcycle helmet. Because bicycle helmets have been such a distraction for me, I've conditioned myself to attempt to roll onto my back and tuck my chin as soon as I get launched. Otherwise, I will try to push myself away from an obstacle (it's a lot easier to redirect your flight than it is to stop it) and use the heel of my palms as a platform to land on, while my elbows and shoulders absorb the impact. My point is, it isn't only the helmet that prevents brain damage, but how you react as well. I'm sure that if I can find a well padded helmet that maintains my entire range of vision while also being so comfortable that I barely notice it, I will start wearing helmets again. Until that point, I will only wear a helmet to comply with a group ride requirement.
I think that you should find a helmet that is good for you, in terms of weight and vision. I don't like how a helmet feels but when I ride hard on the trails I'm always wearing one. It's all fun and games until you crash and hit your head. As mentioned before if I was driving without a helmet the day of my crash I'd probably be paralyzed.
Do you know of a helmet that has straps that go around the chin, rather than underneath, and maintains the upper field of vision? I don't like having the strap against my throat, cause that area is a hair trigger for me, and EVERYONE who knows me avoids even accidentally touching it. I also don't like having to crane my neck all the time, and I don't want to be looking into the helmet when my neck tires.
Lmao dude, Blake riding while sitting was amazing. He had the whole dead sailor thing going, what a beaut!
To truly capture the "noobness" he should have had his helmet perched on the back of his head. That would have been the icing on the cake.

"29er man"
"yeah...erm...nope"
Finally found cycling's equivalent of Bill in Hill Climb Racing: "Sitting Down, Pedal Down" Blake.
Hahah good one
Blake is faster than me sitting down on the saddle smh
Biking in the wrong direction on a xc course. 😡
Not only XC... there are people out there pushing their bikes up single trails.
There is no where to move on a single track! It's so difficult to pass during races and people are so oblivious. Make all the call outs not even a response with warning.
Guilty
People who ride up downhill tracks are asking to get hit
Right, it's called "single" trail for a reason.
Riding on muddy trails and wrecking them. Riding around mud puddles and over vegetation.
BKXC cameo is priceless 😂
That thumbnail is hilarious! Blake barreling through the banked turn, butt glued to the saddle sitting totally upright, arms fully extended with locked elbows... 🤣🤣
I'd seriously be willing to fork over some of my hard earned money to have that on a T-shirt or poster!
Another great video. Nicely done boys!
Stopping on a trail is a bad one. I have a good story about that 😂 , I have to admit I’ve done my fair share of clunking the gears 😂
The Rhins Ranger how do you avoid crunching
Angus Hunter - I try to be in the right gear at the right time, but when I'm tired I can mess up and clunk the gears. Its usually your not going fast enough to shift up so you are changing gears under load
I normally try to get a bit of speed if I can then pedal slowly as I'm changing gears
Angus Hunter -> take pressure off the pedals as you shift. This will ensure a smooth and quiet transition between gears. A quiet bike is a happy bike.
no idea what they meant by crunching the gears
That John Cleese like posture at 5:12 is comedy gold.
Blake is the man!
I thought that guy going by was Dennis. "DENNIS!!!!!"
I recently broke the two finger braking habit. I just moved my leavers further in. At first it felt a bit weird but after a while I forgot I even moved them. In fact I only realised I moved my leavers when I watched this video again.
Love the voice over. Is this a new mic?
Good points, guys! Definitely useful.
Loved the cameo by BKXC!
Dropping my friends while riding is a bad habit.. Who am I kidding. 😂
I love this type of gmbn video- about new classic
But I always use 2 finger braking
me too, sometimes even 3. I just think it's a matter of getting your brakes up to date. older models will touch your other fingers when braking if you use one hand and it won't be enough
On my old bike I also had to use 2 fingers, but on my new Bike my brakes are finally some high end ones and using one finger is more than enoughn
Yea, it's pretty acceptable if you are riding xc 25-30+ mph on trail or llike40-50 on the road
@Taufik Abidin: You need to do a brake bleed and/or change the pads
Blake riding while sitting was very funny! 😂😂
1:15 THATS WHAT SHE SAID!!!
Hahahahah
Cant stop laughing when blake did the sit down foot down position
Blake automatic thumbs up
Thanks for mentioning pack in pack out. So much litter on the trails. So help you if I see you dropping trash on my trail.
5:04 it looks so comedic hahaha like he is glued to the seat 😂
Top delivery from Blake, never fails to make you chuckle!
5:10 funny 😂 butt is glued to the seat 😂🔥
good acting 👌
Riding blind, super fast! I’ve got myself into trouble that way too, too many times!
Pulling the brakes with 2 fingers, that's me🙄
Me laso becus my oldbike ha horrible brakes
.. I'll keep doing it and my skills won't be affected in the slightest bit..
When Blake threw that wrappa, I beast moded! 😠😠😠😂😂😂
Im not mountain biker(bmx rider) but i cant brake with one finger its *impossible* for me
i need new brake pads. I use up the back brake after probably only a few months, so then i’m stuck with only the front brake. soo, to use the back brake i. anyways, i might convert it to a 1x drivetrain.
@@gamerbreadbaker but who asked?
@@JAfonsoNunesMartins10 i did
@@shitposting2497 no u didn't it was 3 months ago
I always love watching blake's videos... refreshingly funny, entertaining and educational.
Can you guys do videos on servicing rear suspension linkages/bearings and re-building/servicing rear shocks?
They actually did one not long ago on GMBN Tech channel.
Doddy has done both on the their tech channel.
I am begginer, but now I am happy, now I do know that I avoided some bad habits. Thanks for thouse tips!
I remember how someone stopped in the middle of the track, AROUND A CORNER!
I came flying around the corner and straight into the other guy. Ended up breaking my arm...
Estiaan du Plooy I'd remember that too. 😉
Locking up the rear brake approaching corners accelerating stutter bump creation!!
All these points are so true 😂
When you flub an uphill trail feature where it's hard to regain momentum, instead of trying to remount right away, consider moving to the side so your buddy following behind doesn't have to put a foot down right before the difficult bit. You screwed up, so you jump back on after he pulls through, keeping the ride moving and giving your friend the chance to attempt to clear the feature. Maybe he fails too and you both have a laugh.
people who don't offer to pitch in for gas
I love that the bolt he had to tighten was the upper shock mount on his Nukeproof Mega. No amount of loctite will keep that bolt from backing out...
5:31 That's another bad habit (cable), you need Doddy to fix it :) !
What's wrong with it?
The two finger braking rule had me thinking about my first “mountain” bike with cantilever brakes lol there was no 1 finger breaking with that lmaooo
What is the cause of gear crunching and how should you be avoiding it? I fear I may be guilty of it, but didn't know it was bad...
Ease off a little bit from the pedals while shifting, and start pushing again once the gear is in
Never shift under pressure, get a little momentum, let your pedals turn freely and shift.
whaaaaaat! I never knew that! I ALWAYS shifted while pedalling... thanks for the info @Gabriele & @Paul!
I always wondered who put all those innertubes on trees, lamposts, signs and now i know!
4:48 is how my dad looks when he goes 'mountain biking'
A bad habit I have on my mtb is usually skidding around corners far too much. I've gone through 3 sets of tires in 2.5 months. One set used to last me for more than a year😭
Bad habit: Walking up the trail!
That depends on your rig. If you've got and Enduro with a HT of 65 and 170mm, sometimes you're forced to walk up. So ya, I'm guilty of that
Than walk beside of the trail!
Some bikes you just have break with two fingers
I love the way this guy talks
love this video. true story lol
Great video 👍 you should do a video about the bad habits with clip pedals it will be interresting
dont be so sure that one finger is always enough to brake
if you have hydraulic disc brakes 1 finger is more than sufficient.
counterintuitive to me..
You nailed it on the head with fellow riders who don't carry any tools, spare tube, or a pump! Just because you're tubeless doesn't mean flats can't happen! If I give you my spare tube, what happens then if I flat?!!?!? THINK! Don't be THAT guy/gal!
Carry 2 tubes and whinge about inefficiency training being to hard later. We are limited to one flat a ride.
2:58 tubeless.. haven't had a flat in about 86 years or so.. but now that I've said that I'm sure I'll be next
Don't know is tubeless even worth it I thought about trying it out but I was told it doesn't really make a difference
Having a few too many the night before an early morning ride. Especially tequila, Not good!
Forgetting your PRD!! >.
Don't you go littering the trail with it! 😂
Blake is Heart of GMBN❤
I’ve always broke with 2 fingers
He forgot to add that 1 finger only applies to newer hydraulic disc brakes - older cable brakes one finger just isn't enough.
5:10 happy wheels
Didn't GCN test pressure washers on bearings and found that they still don't penetrate seals anymore then a normal hose would? Entertaining video!
What about not having any safety gear..!!
I won't ride with somebody who shows up with no helmet, other than that, everything else is a personal choice/acceptance of risk.
Yeah you are right....
Riding without a helmet is also a personal choice/acceptance of risk, isn't it?
Yeah but if someone on the trail opens his skull, you kinda have to ruin your day and help him just because he doesn't like helmets.
DONTstealmyskills, Copperwing 1 So is sticking your face in a fan, but you'd have to be a real idiot to do it.
Reading some of these comments reassures me that seeking sweet , serene solitude and avoiding places with lots of people at all costs is the best way . I don't think I will ever visit a proper track park . Sounds like it's hard work .
Not wearing a helmet. I do it all the time because I feel unnatural wearing one. Not proud.
I crashed hard last year and got a really bad concussion, if it wasn't for the helmet I'd probably not be riding anymore
I also don't like having to crane my neck all the time, and I don't want to be looking into the helmet when my neck tires.
blake sitting down at the corner at 5:13 is too damn funny. I watch it too many times hahaha
