Actually Michael Bolton merely covered the song. Bill Withers wrote and released it in 1972. A year earlier he had released the classic hit _"Ain't No Sunshine."_ I was in high school. Bill died last year.
She does all of the arrangements for her TV appearances. That was pure Sohyang. Michael Bolton was so impressed, he called Sohyang a virtuoso and did an appearance with her where they sang a number of songs together, before he left. That whole contest Is available on video.

Fun fact, this Michael Bolton IS2 episode is still the most watched episode on youtube. It was loaded with amazing singers including Lena Park, Ailee, Hyolyn and of course Queen So Hyang. Arguably the top 4 best female vocalists in Korea in my opinion.

Sure thing. It's my favorite episode and my second favorite is the one with So Hyang performing Arirang Alone. This one had Song So Hee who won the whole thing. She is awesome also but So Hyang is my Queen

Yes of course. I was naming the ladies on the Michael Bolton special.
I saw her live in 2017, shortly after she left KOMS. She came to California. I drove over 6 hours to go to the concert. You could tell she was tired, but she was fantastic nonetheless. An incredible experience for sure!

This was the first time Sohyang participating in "Immortal Song 2" with Michael Bolton in attendance. I think you are right to characterize this as a statement performance. She won the night and this performance helped many learn about her outside of Korea. Immortal Song 2 is a fantastic program with excellent music support and stage production. So many of Sohyang's iconic performances came from this program.
You have seen Sohyang in "Begin Again Korea" and "Immortal Song 2". I'd like to suggest that you check out Sohyang in another competition show "King of Masked Singer" where she sang 9 songs, 8 of them solo, and stayed on the throne for 6 time. While each performance is fantastic (how can it not be, right?), I'd like to see you watch her rock performance of "Mona Lisa". A word of caution on the copyright though. It's a real shame that MBC hits people with copyright issues because some of her best performances were on the Masked Singer., so people stay away from her performances on that show (eg Home, Breathe, Mona Lisa, etc.)
@@bbwng54 MBC is doing disservice to themselves by strictly restricting copyright. These songs as well as their programs could benefit from worldwide audience

She obviously won, but the whole episode is fantastic!! Ailee, Jay Park, and Hyolon (who you really loved in a compilation video are all on it, but honestly there another guy who I had never even heard before who I thought pretty much tied with So Hyang.
And Michael Bolton was the best foreign legend they ever had on the show. He showed the utmost respect (at the beginning he even asked if it was polite to give a standing ovation or not before he did because he wanted to make sure he wasn’t rude) and gave great stories and detailed compliments to the singers. He also invited So Hyang to come perform with as a surprise guest later at his concert
Yes he asked her to go on the whole tour through Korea. SoHyang did only one show as she had obligations singing Gospel at churches out of Country!

I am from the Philippines and she's the singer I enjoy the most in South Korea. It's pretty hard to find someone in Asia with a diction and authority of gospel. Her technique is flawless, too.
She's one of my Asian divas along with Jaya, Regine, Lani and Jaclyn Victor.
Michael Bolton saw this performance and called it "virtuoso performance" and invited her to his concert in Korea for a duet. and they sung "prayer" & "lean on me"

When she was growing up she listened to Mariah Carey the most, she's her biggest idol, she also listened to Whitney and Céline.

They are a Choir and they Travel With Her almost everywhere she goes.....They also sing at Her Church when not with Her
that is why never really surprised they know what she is about to do and when she does the re-write of the song
they practice with her...and I do not know this for sure....But it is said her hand movements are clues for them......makes
sense ...and several other fans...have said that....and a couple of them have been to her concerts...as say it is Out
of this world....before the show she meets and greets as many as time will allow , then also after the concert also
I was mesmerized by the dress and how it ignores the most basic laws of physics.
Goddesses don't do physics. They do miracles.
You will have a better chance to see her live in church than other private concerts because she does not do many. I had a priviledge to see her in a church in CA about 11 years ago. What impressed me the most was her resonance. The church had very old 70's sound system but her resonance was so powerful that the choir singing after her session sounded like little kids. Also her transition was just mind blowing. Her pitch was little higher back then. She may be a tiny woman but sounds like Pattie Lavelle.
Sohyang was responsible for the arrangement as always, she is so much more than just an amazing vocalist. I watched this programme continue after her performance & Michael Bolton was literally speechless when the host went to him for his comments. When he finally composed himself he said ‘ that was spectacular’ & went on to say that in that performance she had taken the role of ‘virtuoso’. Sohyang is a very talented arranger & she is a university lecturer in music in Korea. MB was so impressed by her that she has joined him on stage when he’s toured in Asia. I would like to suggest a different type of performance from Sohyang. Instead of her ‘big’ TV show performances from a few years back I suggest you try & see her performances that have been done during the pandemic,so bang up to date. During the pandemic she has been involved I a project called ‘begin again Korea’ where a small ensemble of singers/musicians go in to workplaces & public spaces & put on very small acoustic sets (they are basically ‘busking’) to very small audiences because of the pandemic. Sohyang sounds better than ever & looks really happy & relaxed as she has had an extended period of good health over the last couple of years. Her voice really shines in this ‘laid back’ setting & all her performances over a number of weeks have been amazing but one of the best was the first one to be released & that was her rendition of WH’s ‘I will always love you’ & OMG! all I can say is Waleska, “don’t forget the Kleenex” as I’ve got a feelin you’re gonna need them. Also done during the pandemic, she released a music video which she doesn’t usually do, her rendition of ‘never enough’ & I know it seems like everybody & his dog are singing this but you must see it.apart from the amazing vocals I think you will really enjoy the concept of the video. I wouldn’t want to spoil it for you so all I’ll say is she does her own harmonies!!!! Another great reaction guys, keep up the good work

In Immortal Song 2 competition, you have 7 singers/groups competing against one another. It is a weekly contest.
The same orchestra will have to play for all 7 artists each week, and all the scores will be different from any form they have seen as these are all re-interpreted songs or brand new song (like Family Portrait from Kim Jin Ho).
Sohyang had two amazing covers in Korean called "Hug Me" and "Breathe", but I think they're not available now on RUclips. Those two were just way way way up there (these English covers are even not as good imho). Yeah, it would be great if you can somehow find them and react to them.. But the good ones were when she wore the mask singing them
