This band should really continue - KC or something else (Though I'm not sure about KC without Fripp). Anytime you can get Steve Vai to be just the guitarist? And Danny Carey? And Tony Levin - on the the greatest bassists ever?

I've been a die-hard Prog fan since the 70's but I can only name maybe 3 or 4 songs by King Crimson that I really like. The majority of their music is just incessant noodling.
The same could be said of any prog band, and it is somewhat subjective. One person's noodling is another's improvising over a deceptive structure. KC did get what could be considered overly technical in the 80s, but there is still melody and definitive structure going on.
Honestly I think they are out is fantastic. However I don't think Danny is up to the challenge. He's not the right drummer for this as he's a heavier player and not technical enough.
Danny Carey not technical enough? He's one of the most deceptively technically adept drummers out there, able to improvise in different time signatures with each limb. I can see that people might think his style isn't right, but technical ability is not the problem. Drumeo has a good review of him. The heaviness is likely just from being a huge guy and thick sticks. 6'5" and still buff. Must be over 250 lbs.
One time an interviewer inexplicably asked Joe Strummer why The Clash kept getting tighter and more versatile. His reply never leaves me. "To be fair, if you're doing the same things for eight hours every day, you kinda can't help getting better." This is their first tour and they have zero albums.
Several commenters make that claim, but when pressed, they don't say they have any significant musical training or experience. Funny thing is: As much as I like and respect Bruford, and his signature innovation in the genre, I've always found him to be somewhat lacking feel. It could be from a different school of thought. Carey does not normally record with click track, and may not even practice using a metronome. He probably isn't as tight as Bruford for that reason, but that doesn't mean he has any more or less feel. I was as semi-pro guitarist/singer in my youth. As a comparison, Jimi Hendrix's timing was not spot on, and his meter wavered, yet his sense of groove was undeniable, particularly in his later recordings. Another issue could be that Carey's style is different enough from Bruford's that he just hasn't had enough time rehearsing to get a consistent feel for it.
@GCKelloch if you have a musical ear, then what would expert training is my case I would just call it intuitive.... Vai is not into it much either... looks more like he was hired and he was. Covering up his eyes with those face goggles. But Eddie was great at what he did, could he play jazz? No. To take the most excellent rock drummer and seat him in this type of music... is out of his place. You can see his facial expressions. I bet Vai regrets this move. Just because your awesome doesn't mean learning someone else's music isn't completely comfortable and it's rather difficult. He has to be able to be himself too. Danny is drumming, adding his cool fills, but it's more like he's somewhat independent and allowed to be so, same with Vai. But allowed to be allowed to mix Danny's style in with 80's talking heads, 80's fusion, and then the oddity of King Crimson stuff... it's pretty hard to feel that groove? Sure he can do the drums well, but I don't feel it like I should... there's no groove.. just dynamics... Listen to the original music and the drums are really inside the music. Danny's outside of it all.
@@baronvongrimm4780 You would learn how to differentiate and compartmentalize different aspects of everything involved in creating a musical performance if you had some training and actual experience. FI, you are comparing studio recordings to live performances and judging the sounds band members are making by the way they look. It's a perfect example of how a non-musician in a post-MTV world thinks about music. Your confirmation bias is strongly affecting your judgement. The idea that Bruford was "inside the music", and Carey is not doesn't mean anything in musical terms or practice. That's all "inside your head". One commenter said Carey just doesn't have the dynamics because he hits harder. Carey's dynamics are just within a higher amplitude range and in different places. You are both wrong. You don't know what you are talking about, but your preferences for what you prefer are perfectly valid.
The era when Ade wrote all of the lyrics and nearly half of the material. Superb.
What a band ! I wish I were living in the USA at this time. Lucky Americans.
tRump is destroying the U.S.

What prog bands do you like?
That was the whole point of their existence

Why did you decide to watch this then?

I think the drummers timing is off. He's not feeling it, I can tell. It's got no groove.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I think they should have gotten Marco Minnemann
