Came here after watching citizen four. The whole interview was great, Mehdi is great and a breath of fresh air.
+koertje Most of his stuff is on the topic. You should see him moping the floor with Qatar's ambassador on fundamentalism (and the exporting of), exploitation of workers etc. The "poor" arrogant bastard though he would get off easy just cause Mehdi is Muslim. Priceless!

John Oliver is a comedian who hosts a late night show... Mehdi Hasan is an actual journalist from what I can tell. Should certainly not be comparing them.

Mehdi good luck with the show, you retain a high standard of journalism in every show you present. As much as you rightly point out Europe's hypocricy in handling the refugee crisis it would be necessary to shed light to Gulf states' policies towards them also. Especially if one considers their direct support to the Syrian civil war. Also given your take on Iraq it would be very helpful if at some point, through your show you present the aspects of sunni - shia divide not on religious terms but rather socio-political ones. As an outsider it strikes me the way political fragmentation in a handfull of Muslim states follows a religious rather an economic divide.
my personal feeling(regarding the gulf states) is they're just dicks, a more nuanced perspective would be appreciated here as well.
from my personal experience most "religious conflicts" are just socio-political issues framed as religious to exploit people's spirituality.

This guy is an activist, not a journalist. There's plenty of room for both in the media, but we need to be clear about the distinction. It's interesting to ponder what it says about someone who listens to activism and thinks it's journalism.

Its' a pleasure to hear that Snowden is leading a somewhat normal personal life. More importantly Snowden's professional life and exemplary public service have been greatly enhanced because of technology. One thing I will say, I wonder why Snowden is celebrated so much. Most Americans and the world's population knew what was happening, but chose to ignore it. And now, if you see it, the companies and the govt orgs still involved in these activities are stil going strong. And the corporations involved are making record profits capturing and using this information flow.
