As an owner of a 2018 Adventure Sport w/ DCT, you summed up the bike perfectly, comfortable, capable, and cost friendly. If I needed to purchase another new bike, it would be the ATAS again. Good video!
The AT is at the top of all my lists. A bike would have to knock my socks off for it to be dethrowned and I just spent some time on a GS in AZ. Happy new year to you too, Greg! More content to come in 2024!
I have the 2020 Africa Twin Adventure Sports, really great bike with 60,000 problem free km now. Just ordered the new Arica twin with DCT, tubeless tires and electronic suspension because it’s available on the normal version now. 🤗
@thomasstaudigel7264 yeah, until you get used to it, the array of buttons and all the ridiculousness of options in the settings is overwhelming. I bet in a few years there will be a gen 3 AT with a better UI and possibly adaptive cruise control, but Honda will ride the wave of sales for awhile with the popularity of the Transalp before that happens.
Happy New Year, Joe. You have truly explained the positive points on the AT. It is a motorcycle that has left its mark on you and many others. Ride safe in 2024.
The old Africa Twin 750 was my dream bike for a long, long time.. But young poor me, never could afford one even 2nd hand.. Now, more mature and with some bucks in the pocket feels too late..
It's a great choice for anyone looking for a adventure bike. If you've an average rider. Most of us are. I think you over sold it when comparing it to others in the class. It sure is a beauty. It's bike you look back at every-time you park it.
I may have oversold how the AT makes you feel, but most definitely did not when comparing it bikes in the same class. The first 15 seconds of video state that it’s not close to the others bikes spec sheets.
What the author didn't mention is unless you live in a hot or humid areas you will never experience oil leaks in the hot summer months, or rusty frame just from leaving it outside, or the glitchy head unit which cant stand the heat. Mine 2021 atas es leaked oil in the year 1 summer. And does so every summer since. Rusty frame has been addressed by officials under warranty. Also my rear hub crashed and I had new rear wheel fitted under warranty on year 2. Cheapest quality suspension you can imagine in the extra ES package, with limited preload settings and nothing else - no rebound, no compression. And twitchy low revs in a 1100 cc twin. The seat is as hard as a wooden bench. Also, if you dare to go offroad and drop it - it better be an empty tank. And after you wash it - you have to dry it properly or it rusts. Wind protection is ok for the most part, but the glass is narrow and nowhere near GS wind protection levels. As is overall comfort. Other than that the bike is a peach. Especially if you only travel to the nearest coffee shop. p.s. parts costs like BMWs at officials.
Yeah, I have a 2021 ATAS as well. I have a glitchy touchscreen. It’s annoying. It’s also terrible for 2-up because of the suspension, and in certain ride modes the engine is twitchy (though that’s easy to change in the two user modes), but none of the other issues you have.
@@GreatEgret Hi. Yes i agree. I do live in a hot and humid seaside so this may not apply to your locations. Nevertheless all this was unpleasant surprise, especially coming from so much laughed at Italian unreliable bikes. User mode flexibility is top notch, no questions. And Carplay/Android Auto married to cardo head units is superb when this stone age Garmin head unit works. Connecting 2 head units on the other hand is a bit of a problem though.
@as89189 I stopped using the Apple CarPlay. It’s just too finicky. Truthfully, I ride to get away from the technology, so it doesn’t bother too much that it doesn’t work all the time. I can imagine that salty seaside environment wouldn’t play very well with this bike.
I'm a devoted Honda enthusiast and have had the pleasure of owning four of their models. However, the most significant concern I have with the Honda CRF1100 series is the recent price increase, which now places them in direct competition with premium models like the BMW 1300 GS, Multistrada V4, and Triumph Tiger 1200. In fact, I was so taken aback by the changes in the new CRF1100 models for 2024 that I've decided to place an order for the 1300 GS instead.
I’d also consider myself a Honda enthusiast. I’m on my fifth Honda bike and currently own two. I just spent a few days on a R1250GS, so now I’m so curious about the R1300GS. You are the exact type of rider I created my last video for. It’s about how the 2024 AT might not be right for you. The increased cost is one of many reasons: Why the 2024 Africa Twin MIGHT Not Be Worth Your Time ruclips.net/video/eS3jyWquMmw/видео.html
I had been eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new CRF1100, but following a test ride on the 1300 GS, I made the decision to shift my loyalty to BMW. The engine in the 1300 GS is truly exceptional, and the new frame, shock, brakes, and advanced electronics clearly surpass what Honda offers by a substantial margin. While Honda could potentially compete on pricing, it appears they didn't opt for that approach.@@GreatEgret
With the nearest BMW dealer being 4 hours away, that in itself eliminates BMW from consideration. Too many electronics to be that far from a software update. Honda is only an hour and a half away. They will get my business.
@@perfectlynormal5729 I understand your point. Even though my Honda dealer is just 10 minutes away and the BMW dealer is 2 hours away, I still chose BMW and have no regrets. My first service was done without any issues, and now I'm riding around with a grin.
i want to trade my Harley heritage in for a Twin but, im 5 ft 6in and feel i will probably have to lower the bike ....great video liked and subscribed.
Thanks man! It is a tall bike and a lot of shorter riders do lower it. But if you buy the lower seat, you’re looking at a manageable bike. I’m 5’9” with a 32” inseam. I keep the seat in the highest position. I can’t flatfoot, but I taught myself some skills to ride it like this and it was a fun challenge.
I would too! Unfortunately being in the US, the likelihood of the 2024 AT sold here is slim. Just like the 2023. If it does, I’ll definitely get on both on review them.
@@GreatEgret I’m surprised they are not available in the US. We had the UK motorbike show in November and Honda actually had the 2024 ATAS on display. A 19” dia front wheel with increased torque coming in at lower revs plus lowering the bike by about 30mm for lower centre of gravity. It sounds just right for touring. Honda also introduced their new e-clutch at the show which sounds interesting.
It's a great bike for so many reasons. Now is thime to buy if you can find a low-milage 2020 - 2022 model. Bikes are less expensive in the winter and getting in on the used market before everyone wanting one realizes that the 2024 won't be sold in the US.
I have one ATAS 1100 i feel that the motorcycle is in fact confortable exept the seat, i think the seat is very bad for a premium motorcycle and for the price... Confort seat is mandatory for me. And should have lighted controls/buttons. Only two things i complain about my motorcycle, love it in every way.
Gosh, I couldn’t agree more about the seat. I rode 220 miles last Friday and my butt was sore by mile 80. I too think lighted controls would be good to have.
I have never encountered any malfunction in my 35K km trips in the mountains of Turkiye . 2021 CRF1100 L2 DCT (same color as yours). DCT for me now is indispensable. The only thing to pay attention to is the Lithium Battery. It should never be dropped below 10V.
Definitely the best looking! It is heavy and there is a HUGE learning curve with all the settings. I get on on my CRF300L Rally for lighter weight riding and escape the electronics craziness.
I wanted to love it, but didn’t. Too tall. Yes I can ride tall bikes, but it just felt awkward for me compared to my tiger. I think all of the current heavy adv bikes are really sport touring.
While writing the script for this video, I thought about you and your experience with how top-heavy the AT is. Every post and short you put out now about your RK makes me want one.
