- An 8 Year gang member has recently informed me that the new staking reward proposal will prevent neurons greater than eight years from being topped up. This news caught me by surprise to say the least. Not being full convinced, I asked for documentation that shows this to be true. Little did I know that Dominic's original forum post did include such contingency. In this episode, I warn my fellow 8 year gang that they should max out their eight year neuron while that opportunity still last.

Just added half my liquid ICP making a total of 250. 8 year neurons will be scarce in the future! I'll never start dissolving! My grandchildren should be good :p

I'm voting FOR it, and it's not selfish. If you find gold, you would do everything in your power to preserve it, take care of it, and also make sure with that gold you're able to multiply what you're given whereby through interest; praise be to God. If this blows up, I will do good things!

Good point, I had also 'feared' this.
'Feared' in quotation marks, as it is a logical consequence, as otherwise you could simply create a lot of IC identities before the abolition of new 8Y neurons and sell them off or use them yourself.
In my opinion, however, a better solution would be to limit the voting power per neuron.
In addition, the question now really arises as to whether the auto-restake is also affected.
I have just added another 170 ICPs to my 8YG neuron. Unfortunately I'm not a whale like you, more like a dolphin with a beer belly ;)

So I recommended Dom on the forum not to let people top-up their neurons after it goes live. (and he liked it I guess)
This will create extreme value to the early investors and their 8 year neurons. As I would also love to personally top up my own 8 year neuron indefinitely I think this proposal will greatly benefit us early adopters.
Also, I do believe the "voting power" will be a big thing in the future. Which the OG 8-year gang will always have "more" of, for the same amount of ICP staked.
Will restaking your maturity have any effects to the 8 year staking?
@@nicolaturi1831 Hey man! In short, if you have 100 ICP staked, and you top it up with another 100, your age bonus will be halved.
@@MotokoMartin Yeah, i get that. But i meant the staking rewards: if i keep the restaking option on my maturity, will that then turn my 8 year neuron into a 5 year neuron (Since I'm technically putting ICP into the neuron)?

What's the time frame? Last thing I want is to top it off and there's no "are you sure" warning and my dissolve delay is changed to 5 years
I follow neurons to make sure my vote is cast for rewards, but I personally like to manually vote on all proposals each day. It's something I look forward to seeing all the updates each day. If you do this you will see the proposal to make this change so you will know the exact date when this proposal comes through

James, how often are you spawning neurons from your rewards? I’ve started spawning neurons daily, but am just stacking the rewards in my NNS wallet. Once the price hits $100 per ICP, I’ll start selling.

Based on how much you’ve said you’re making on your 10k ICP(nearly $2k a month), should I expect nearly $200 on my 1000 ICP locked for 8 years?
What about if you automatically stake your rewards? Does that convert it into a 5 year since you're adding to your neuron?

Well the lowest amount is 1. I assume you're asking financial advice. Dunno. I guess the standard answer is only what your willing to lose. If you're thinking long term Google ICP neuron calculator. Put dissolve for max, stake for 10 years, and then put in an amount of ICP and that will gauge the return so you can find a target you can achieve within your means.
@@chlamygamine2190 not looking for financial advice at all. More of a rhetorical question. From my research staking a minimum 1000-2000 ICP will yield a worth while apy, but wondering if anything less is worth it.

This is great for icp.. it'll make ppl buy more to beat that proposal... everyone complaining= not too bright... its a great marketing strategy to boost sales to be able to stake for 8 years... I'm smart.. everyone else.. not so much

That's sad. My goal was 10k icp in 8 years stake. I have slightly over 10k on total, but then I would not have anything liquid to sell near top

I want to be sure I understand, I currently have 3100 staked ICP for 8 year. I have not started to disolve. I am not in danger of losing my 8 year stake becuase I have not started to disolve correct? And now your goal is 20k ICP? Just when I tell you my goal is 5000 ICP you go and up yours to 20,000? So competetive!!!! lol Keep pushing me bro and I will unload all my ETH for ICP! LOL

not really! people who held BTC for 8 years prospered immensely, generally! we can live off of the accrued interest, indefinitely while the principal remains staked. hoping to make daily income for perpetuity! 👻

@Gerlaffy the maturity you can stick into a new 5 year stake or cash it in for ever or invest in launchpad proposals. I got 50 in estatedao and 10 in sneed and 8 in golddao and some in yuko.
8 yr right now is 15%, and the 5 yr is 12% is this the only difference?
3% of compounding interest over 8+ years could be a lot in the future.

@@Matt2K83they keep reducing over time to encourage early adoption, but they will never fall below 5%
They reduce to 5q over time but you get 25% age bonus once you've had it for 4 years so you kinda level off close to even

Yes if time frame goes down, so do your rewards
If you stake only for 5 years then you start with 12% instead of 15.5% which you have with 8 years.

Actually one can have as many neurons as he/she wants. Each of them could have different combination of conditions. So there is no need to top one neuron up at all. Just make another one! Yes, with 20 neurons the owner will have to spend more time setting up each of them one by one. One should be careful not to omit an important procedure for some of them.
