Hingis looks so relaxed here. I can't see any nervousness there. Amazing at that age. Her point construction too!
The older players who played against her must have added more pressure on themselves thinking they couldn't lose to a 13 year old. But that's not taking away from hingis obvious talents.
    Thanks for this video!

Wow tu Hans...being a huge " Swiss Miss " fan this is great....and the video quality is really good. She was so good its just when the " big hitters " like Davenport and the 2 knicklehead sisters and of course Capriati stealing what would've been Hingis's 4 th AO in a row was a bummer but highest paid female athlete from 97-01 and 5 time slam champ and too many to count doubled champs.

I serirously mistook Hinguis' opponenet for Anke Huber. I didn't realize my mistake until I found out it was a junior match.

I remember Lenka Nemeckova from way back then. Thanks for the memories!

For a while there I thought that was Anke Huber, thanks for sharing. Hingis was far more aggressive and brave as a young teen.

We're all here to see Hingis, but I was curious why I had never heard of her opponent. If she was in this junior final, you'd think you might have achieved something. So I looked her up. I think her name is Lenka Nemeckova, highest singles ranking was #72 in 1998. Not in the same league as Hingis's success of course.
Edit: 4y 5m older than Hingis.

a pity she got less aggressive after she became number 1. She was still playing like this in her first grand slam win.

not sure if she became less aggressive . more that the competition got fitter, stronger so they were sending her balls back with interest.

Knicklehead sisters???? Lol...I meant knucklehead sisters. I mean those 2 were a bit much sometimes. But then u watch and hear the father talk u can see why they were a little much. The mom Oracene....an absolute peach of a lady❤❤❤

She hit many very impressive forehand shots here. She added way to much top spin later and lost the easy power she had here.

thorium222 agree. Her forehand in 1996-1997 was very strong and became a lot more defensive later on.

I agree! I don't know what happened to her forehand as she got older.

I always felt Martinez and Sabatini had a similar issue they could not hit through the ball and eventually both and Hingis became overpowered by Williams , Seles , Davenport etc although Sabatini had large head to heads over Davenport and Pierce but she started to lose to Sanchez Vicario after dominating her and it was simply because she refused to flatten out her shots or at least come to net. Sorry i mean they could hit through the ball but did not have a way of flattening out shots.

She was better when when she was younger -- less defensive.
