As much as I'm gonna miss Pat and I'm sad that I'll never see him live, it's good that he's happy and healthy and I think we should all be proud of him for making it so far
nah, we aren't even sure he's quit music. He's just stated that he's moved on from punk and to a certain extent anarchy. He can't really keep playing the songs because he doesn't necessarily still believe in them. At least that's what I gathered. He didn't really say WHY exactly he was leaving. I just think he kind of grew up.
Matthew Clay he said he didn’t think his songs mattered he didn’t wanna make meaningless songs he didn’t think they’d change anything he quit believing
I found the lyrics "We'll stand our ground no matter how many police appear. Captains go down with their ships, my friends, and we're all captains here" so moving that I cried into my mashed potatoes.
I miss Pat, I really do. I miss his shows and screaming along with him till I can't speak the next day. But goddamn does it make me even happier to see him looking so strong and healthy after so many hard years.
Dakota Hope yeah for me I knew Johnny hobo and Wingnut Dishwashers Union was Pat, but ramshackle glory had more of a uplifting sound it took a bit for me to realize that was also pat, I miss him but as long as he’s doing well I’ll be happy he’s already given us so much he deserves a rest
The little pause at 1:22 before dignity is so much more well done on this than the album version and gives me goosebumps. Glad you got out alive pat. Live life.
The fact that there are 3 separate comments talking about how amazing 3 separate lines in the song are is really telling of the song writer that Pat the Bunny was.
This man, his astonishing soul, his heart, his music is so powerful that it was just enough to help so many get by for just ONE more day. Then it became two, three, four......one of those many has been me on more than one occasion. Here I am back again. In another rut. Just over a year ago I almost died. I posted on one of the fistful videos, I got overwhelmed with the care I was shown. I'll make it through again. I know I will but I just had to stop by and let go for just a moment. I thank him for all he has done for the likes of lowlifes like myself. As well as I thank you guys, for helping this to become reality. From the bottom of my soul, I love all of you. Just one more day..... Then maybe two........
That's the reason I'm here today. It's a terrible day in a terrible week of a terrible decade, and I cannot fucking imagine waking up again tomorrow. I'ma just sit here with Pat for a bit and breathe deep. Love all of you people
It's honestly kind of amazing how many people share stories in the comment sections of Pat's videos about how much his music helped them get through really dark periods of their lives. Been there myself and I've gotta say, his music is so incredibly therapeutic, I'm so glad I found it when I did, it was exactly what I needed at the time. Truly an incredible artist. I hope you're doing well, man. Life can be a fucking roller coaster ride, but it's one that I think is worth seeing through to the end, after all if we're all to return to dirt, might as well bring as many stories for the worms as you can :)
Don’t call yourself a “lowlife”. I know where you’re coming from with that, trust me. But language, even in our own heads, is so much more important than we realise. You’re not a lowlife. You’re a human being, who happens to have had to go through some real fucking shit. “What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger.” Please, I beg you, please do your best to get stronger. If stronger isn’t on the agenda, I can completely understand despite how awful of a reality that is, but if you have it in you, please try to pick getting stronger.
Fuck, man... Pat- you are fucking incredible! You're one of my biggest inspirations to continue to keep on fighting to get sober and kick meth and heroin for good. Finding your music, all of it, has been the best thing that's happened to me in the last two years. I love you, man, even though I've never met you. Keep on loving, keep on fighting because you are an inspiration to so many people like myself who feel like there's no hope for them anymore. I can never thank you enough for reminding me that no matter how dark it gets there is always hope. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Hope Pat's doing well in all the hell going on right now. He inspires so many people, even to this day. Gets me choked up just listening to him. We love you, Pat.
For anyone who’s known about Pat, and anyone new, I’m a fan, too. I first heard his music, 10 years ago, coming down from an incredible acid trip. I just couldn’t sleep (for whatever reason). I went into my living room where one of my best friends in the world was dwelling, and asked him what “that music you played earlier was”…was all about…he looked at me and said..”man, I can’t fucking sleep either, glad you popped out” The rest was history. I’ve been listen to “Pat the Bunny” “The wingnut dishwashers union” and “Ramshackle Glory” for about 10 years… Don’t regret a second of it
I spent my life drifting To things that fall apart as soon as it gets hard We live without leaders, but now there's nobody to steer Captains go down with the ship, my friend, but there's no captains here There's no petition we can sign to end poverty Or to make "no" a word with teeth I know there's not enough windows on this planet to break us free But maybe one will be just enough for some dignity Just do the dirt and walk away and don't say shit My momma didn't raise no snitch If anybody asks, well then I've never heard your name No rest for the wicked till we've crossed the state And common decency may lead us through a prison cell Basic goodness take us to hell But since we'll all return to dirt Let's bring some stories for the worms We don't know when But the days will come again when their courts can't hold us in We'll stand our ground no matter how many police appear Captains go down with the ship, my friend, and we're all captains here And just for a moment, we were all captains then.
Funny to think this is the same guy who did DIY Orgasms and I Want Cancer For Christmas; amongst others. Guess we all have to grow up at some point. Still to be young and free again like the days of johnny hobo is something i think most people do miss. The fact that you only have to care and look out for yourself at that stage. When you get older theres multiple responsibilities you have to take on. Living on your own (away from parents and other family), work, raising a family of your own. Life comes in and hits you hard, then youre tied down and cant move anymore; like you could when you were young. Its kinda sad really.
I remember years ago I was listening to his first album and I was in his hometown and he came up to the car when I was at a red light and told me it was him ❤
Pat may be done for now, but that never means Pat is done forever. I'd be willing to bet we're going to get more years of Pat after he's feeling better than we've gotten of Pat already. And I'll be here for that day. Bobbing my head along. God damnit I do miss your music, Pat. Stay strong my brother.
I don't think we'll get more pat, at least not folk/folk-punk. But we'll always have his old catalogue, and the knowledge that he got out and gathered a respectable life for himself, which makes all his music that much sweeter and uplifting to listen to. If Pat can do it, you can too. He would never admit it but he's a hero. Pat's saved lives.
Aw crap. Ya know I just found your songs and I gotta say I love em. I was hoping to see if you would ever have a show anywhere cause it would be so friggen cool to see you live. Now thanks to a comment I see that won't be possible. This always seems to happen. I find a cool song, want to see the band/group/guy live and then I realize they haven't in years and won't again
I'm in the same boat, only found him after he retired. But at the same time this music seemed like an outlet for a darkness he's moving past so I'm happy for him. Or maybe I'm just reading into it too much

Pat sings like a punk rock angel
Man I swear I’d probably be dead if it wasn’t for this guy. Thanks again Pat and congrats on the sobriety
You’re not the only one. Him and the folk punk I found through him have saved my life
I spent my life drifting
To things that fall apart as soon as it gets hard
We live without leaders, but now there's nobody to steer
Captains go down with the ship, my friend, but there's no captains here
There's no petition we can sign to end poverty
Or to make "no" a word with teeth
I know there's not enough windows on this planet to break us free
But maybe one will be just enough for some dignity
Just do the dirt and walk away and don't say shit
My momma didn't raise no snitch
If anybody asks, well then I've never heard your name
No rest for the wicked till we've crossed the state
And common decency may lead us through a prison cell
Basic goodness take us to hell
But since we'll all return to dirt
Let's bring some stories for the worms
We don't know when
But the days will come again when their courts can't hold us in
We'll stand our ground no matter how many police appear
Captains go down with the ship, my friend, and we're all captains here
And just for a moment, we were all captains then.
