@SkylarKeystone the sponsor already paid, so I don't think it is fair to expect him to bad mouth them in the comments. I just appreciate he left up the comments criticizing the decision to select that sponor.
I picked this up because I regretted not backing it on kickstarter, and any time you review something it sells out. Don't want to miss out on this wonderful book.
the gigantic cockroach centipede is the stuff of nightmares! heard of this one from the Vintage RPG podcast, had no idea that the project was abandoned :(
Really really cool setting. I got my copy last year when I heard about the falling out. Really sad that I didn’t get all those zines when I had the chance.
I love this. Just grabbed a copy! Spear Witch was the best price I could quickly find (link in your pinned comment) for $60 and free shipping, and sends a link to the bookmarked PDF immediately!
I loaned my copy to my therapist -- she's not a gamer but I think this is accessible to any fantasy reader with an interest in the literarily ambitious end of the field. It reminded me as much of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities as any gaming scenario.
excellent review, I hope you do a best-of-the-year episode. I want to DMing soon, largely due to your channel and bc I want a reason to get the books you review.
That's so sad it's almost impossible to get them... I discovered tour channel with another "a thousand thousand islands" product. Those books looks so good.
I found this a few weeks ago at a Half-Price Books in Austin, Texas for 8 dollars and picked it up on a whim. I was pretty surprised to see an RPG in a book that looked like this. Pretty cool stuff!
I'll echo the many others on the choice of sponsor. Their work is distasteful and promoting it reflects poorly either on your taste or on your selection process.
I ran the second adventure in it for a one shot and I must admit I didn't enjoy it much. There's a path up the mountain with an obvious adversary at the top so it ended up being a railroad. I actually used all of the hooks, giving one to each player, but even so, it's possible to deal with each of them without going on sidetreks into the mountain where much of the fun is. I think it would work okay as a location in a wider regional sandbox setting if you could reduce the urgency for PCs to engage with it, but I wouldn't run it again as a standalone adventure.
I'm still reading through it but it feels like there isn't really much urgency in any of the scenarios. Nothing stands out as a clock, not counting the possibility of roach infections, lol.

Ziedeck Siew then wanted to revise the arrangement to 50-50, arguing he was more active promoting their brand on social media and should be compensated for that.
It is unfortunate that the project isn't being produced anymore due to the issues. But still, it's one of the best Tabletop RPG campaign settings, and perhaps the best written. Zedeck Siew's writing is too good.
Entirely disappointing about the sponser choice Ben, everyone makes mistakes but if this the quality of sponsor you’re comfortable with, I won’t continue to support the channel. Hopefully just a one-time issue, as I love the channel!
Considering how relatively small most islands are compared to the oceans their in, I wonder how often this section of the underdark is subject to flooding.

@UltraTtrpger Sure. I don't think you're understanding my point. I'm not arguing that using AI is criminal, somehow-- nor that he shouldn't be able to express his shitty opinions. I'm pointing out that AI art and political bullshit is offputting.
While I really like your content and the book reviews, I just took a look at your sponsor’s blog, post and truth be told I hope it’s just a research failure because I can’t believe you would endorse that. I’ll write it off as a one off.
04:54. "The weapon they always carry...machetes!" Illustration shows the monster carrying a spear. 😂🤣🙄 I think I can make a guess why this team fell apart...
There's no conflict there. The creature gets 'significant advantages' when using a polearm but the chitin machete is an actual part of their body, much like how a tiger's claws are rated as a natural attack.

Sorry, Ben. These sponsors are clowns. That makes you part of their circus. Have fun with that, but I'm out. There are better places and people to spend my time with. I'm sure they'll martyr themselves in Replies, but whatever. I'm not a consumer of AI slop, so no loss to them, I suppose.

I was able to order physical and download from Spear Witch.
