    Excellent video and spot on tips! I look forward to a myth-busting video. And I wish I'd known about two additional things: stitch length and washing fabric.

    As Jenny Doan says - Finished is better than perfect 😊 and I think enjoying your sewing is more important than perfect 😊😊 Loved your tips. Thank you.

    I sort of like the imperfections in a quilt - I think it conveys the handmade-ness to the recipient. It shows that another human took the time to make this just for you.

      That is very true, if everything was perfect it would be quite boring!

    In U.S., painter’s tape not the same as masking tape - but we get what you mean.

      In the UK masking tape acts the same as painters tape. It's low adhesive so it can be easily removed when using it to cover up woodwork or parts of stuff you don't want to be painted.

    I didn’t make sure I had quarter inch seams when I started. It never occurred to me to measure first. I also started out with a way to ambitious pattern. I ended up putting it away and starting with an easier pattern. Great tips! Thank you

      It didn't occur to me till much later but now it's become second nature with practise. I don't think you're alone, I think many people start out with something too ambitious and they get put off but I'm glad you stuck with it!

    Thanks for this video. Like Cheri, I didn't know how to use my ruler and cutter properly. Oh well! I do now! 😄

      I still wonder sometimes about the lines, on the line, to the right of the line or to the left of the line. I guess as long as it's always the same it's ok for now :-)

    The thing I found out the hard way was that thread mattered, and different threads produced different results. I had to throw out a lot of old thread.

      I have been quite lucky that my sewing machine is fairly happy with whatever I throw at it, but it's worth remembering when it comes to picking your threads. Thanks for your comment!

    I wish I had known how to actually use the ruler. I have hacked up quite a bit of fabric. I am much better at it now thanks toKaren Brown.

      Yes, I was the same, I didn't know what half the lines meant or were for, but i'm getting better too, and thanks to Karen as well :-)

    I was laughing hard about "lints" you "cleaned" the sewing area!! Must be 5 years worth of lint. eh? I love silly parts, and it is very true about being perfect which I rather have little flaws in matching... I love silly parts!!! By the way, I am from Manitoba, Canada. Eh?

    • @TheColourBlindQuilter
      @TheColourBlindQuilter  3 года назад

      So glad you enjoyed the video. I have a silly sense of humour, but I felt liek i found that much lint in my sewing machien the first time I realised you had to clean it HAHA. I love Canada, such a beautful cuntry. I hope to return to visit next year as it's been 20 years since I was last there.

      @@TheColourBlindQuilter you should come by Manitoba especially during summer as we have so many events that you would enjoy lots but just wait till Covid is over. lot of events are done by zoom or website which is not same as being in person.

    I had to laugh , I literally went through the exact same process except I never used a block of wood for a ruler, I used a cookie sheet!!!

    • @TheColourBlindQuilter
      @TheColourBlindQuilter  3 года назад +1

      HAHA - I hadn't actually thought about a cookie sheet, that might have been better than the piece of wood. It's funny now looking back at what we did when we started out.
