Congratulations on your acceptance this cycle!!! 🎉 And it really is true! It takes some time figuring out your work flow and to get adjusted, but once you do, you’ll be surprised with all the things you can do outside of class!
I started this semester very recently and I 100% agree on the material not being extremely difficult but rather the volume. When people said consistency and discipline, I don’t think I really took them that serious because I thought I was already “disciplined” but boy was I wrong. I guess it’s all part of the learning process.
That’s exactly how I felt Fania! Lol. Part of this learning process is actually learning some of these skills like discipline in addition to all the medical related skills. All in all, it will be just as impactful for our practice as physicians 💪🏽
Thanks so much for this comment Jordan! I’m so happy to hear that my videos have been helpful for you! Always feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions!
I’m 12 and I wanted to be a general surgeon for a long time and I know I have many year before I can go to school to be a surgeon, but your videos help a lot and thanks.
That’s so awesome! It’s really amazing for you to already know that you want to be a surgeon. You’re going to be an incredible one. And I’m happy my videos have been helpful!
I'm a sophomore and I'm planning to get into Medschool and I am glad I found your channel! Everyone says I won't have time to do anything or hang out with friends, and this video gave me hope that its gonna be alright in the end. Thank You
I’m so happy I was able to disprove that myth for you! It’s going to be busy, but if you practice efficient studying you will open up a ton of time for the other things you want to do
Since I was a child I wanted to be a doctor, either a psychiatrist or a pediatrician. However, the length of the years of training and schooling, the amount of tuition, and the brutal years of residency steered me away from the goal. I got an MA in psychology but medicine is always on the back of my mind.
Yes! Love this! I interviewed with Mayo in December and absolutely fell in love with it. Your channel is awesome! Hearing your experiences has been so uplifting and has helped to make things seem so much more manageable (and exciting!). Good luck with everything!
Congratulations on interviewing here in December!! 🔥 I’m so happy my videos have been helpful and uplifting for you. Hopefully we’ll be classmates soon! 🙏🏽
I love the fact you not only debunked certain myths, but proved why the aren't true. Also that's good to know, being consistent, even in medical school, works! (Prov. 13:4) Edit: Congrats in 7k!
Thanks so much Albert! I really appreciate your continued support! And Prov. 13:4 applies so nicely with medical school! The diligent are fully satisfied! 💪🏽
I’m 15 years old and I want to became a psychiatrist when I’m older it’s a passion of mine and I want to help people in need who are struggling with mental illnesses e.g. Adhd, I have adhd my self and went to a psychiatrist when I was 10 and got diagnose with adhd and started taking medications because of it and it changed so much in a good way so I want to learn about mental illnesses and go to medical school and one day pay if forward and help people who aren’t mentally/ physically stable. Thank you so much for making this video it was worth watching and help me get a feel of both negatives and positives of going to medical school.
That’s an incredible story and I’m sure your personal experience will make you that much better of a psychiatrist one day. I’m glad you liked the video too!
A lot of really great information! You are honestly getting me though studying for the MCAT! Thank you for the content!! Really great points and perspectives!
I am so motivated after this! I’m 16 and really want to work in a medical field but then I remember medical schools are so expensive. Time to give up on my dreams and disappoint my parents.
I’m glad this video was motivating for you! And unfortunately medical school is expensive. But the cost doesn’t have to stand in your way. The vast majority of students (including myself lol) take out loans to fund their medical school education. Don’t let the cost hold you back!
@@EvolvingMedic I forgot we had student loans oops, was already overwhelmed by the thought of medical school. Thank you! And after I get a medical job, am I able to pay off within some years or more? I live in Michigan and I feel like medical school cost differs
I definitely understand! Costs can be crazy and super variable. But most students don’t end up worrying too much about the loans because you will be able to pay them off relatively quickly. This depends on things like the specialty you go into, how many loans you have, and if you’re able to live a bit below your means after medical school. But if you are adamant about being as financially responsible as you can, you’ll be able to pay off your loans quickly once your medical training is over. I hope this helps!
There are 4 years of medical school and then you have residency in the specialty you want to go into (i.e. orthopedics, neurology, pediatrics, etc.). The length of residency depends on the specialty, but range from 3-7 years. You are paid during this time though (just not as much as you’ll be paid after residency). After residency some people do an addition year or two of training (called a “fellowship”), but others end their training when their residency is over. Then you can go on to work (at a hospital, private practice, etc.) as an attending physician. You can see that it takes a lot of time lol. You officially become a doctor after medical school though. You just still have training in whatever specialty you want to do. I hope that that made sense!
Everyone being a supportive genius is too true as well. M2s giving M1 tips & tricks, M3s giving rotations details and clinical knowledge, and M4s putting into perspective the entire process. Always on his A-game; J.R #KeepEvolving

Hey J.R.!! Started watching your yt videos last summer. They helped a ton! Followed your primary essay format and tips and got into med school back in October to start this year. Thanks for all your help!!
Can you please do a video on things to do before starting medical school? I just got accepted for July 2025 and have months to start. While I'm working full-time, there's still tons of free time that I'd like to utilize in preparation for med school. Would love to get your thoughts on this!
I’m so happy you enjoyed the video and are downloading the ebook! Let me know what you think! And once you finish undergrad you’re going to love medical school!
I really like this video and how you debunk and approve some of the myths about med school. I've heard some people say that the first year of med school is the hardest, so what's your opinion considering you're probably in your 3rd or 4th year now. (Also what do you think has helped you the most in med school)
I’m glad you enjoyed the video! I’d say the transition to medical school is hard, so the first few months can be challenging. But overall, I think the third year (or whenever you begin your clerkships). It’s basically studying a similar amount to first/second year, but also having to work full time. And now that step 2 is more important than step 1, studying during clerkships is critical. It can just be challenging to balance.
Is it weird that I'm only 15 and I have been wanting to be a surgeon since I was 12 I really want to pursue cardiothoracics but w/ due time that will most likely change as I start learning more about the human body
I had a traumatic event happen to me let’s just say the dentist tried to kill me 😂. A severe allergic reaction, lead me to question where I am now and my full potential. I started watching many premed/medical school student RUclips videos. At 36 years old I’m considering going back to school for microbiology and immunology. I recently bought the mcat set of books just to read before I make any rash life-changing decision. To sum medical school up would you say it constant new material or more a build up of new and old material? Have you seen any older medical student at your school so far?
There are definitely older medical students in my class. It has become more of the norm now! We have a few people over 40 years old in my class! In terms of the material in medical school, it is mostly building a foundation of knowledge, which means everything is basically new.
Do you think that I can do this while being able to hangout with my babies? Also, what amount of time is dedicated to being in the classroom the first year? Can I work my job during that first year?
You can definitely go to medical school as a parent (I have a 2.5 year old), but you would not be able to have a traditional job while in medical school. Even during the first year your academic and clinical responsibilities are a full time job
Very little honestly. There will be some principles that are chemistry related in biochem and pharmacology, but not to the micro-level focus that chemistry in undergrad is like. I didn’t like (or do well in) chemistry either! Lol
hey love your vids!! do you mind sharing which resources you used that helped you study for physio? also where can i do practice questions for physio specifically? :))

14 year old here, i wanna be a peds surgeon or neuro lol, for different reasons but i get terrified ab being at the bottom having no idea where im going what im doing its just yeah thanks for the video
I know that exact same feeling! It’s okay to not know exactly where you’re going. When you just keep putting one foot in front of the other, you end up at exactly where you’re supposed to be. You’re going to be a great doctor one day!
I don’t think it’s ever too late to pursue your passion! You would have to fulfill the premed requirements, so likely getting a bachelor’s and doing the premed classes. But I have a classmate (2nd year med student) who turns 40 this year and multiple classmates in their 30s! Definitely do it if it’s your passion!
Overall would you say med school is a good/bad experience? I’m pretty sure it’s what I want to do but I’m really scared it will be an awful time in my life?
I have absolutely loved it! If you’re passionate about medicine and helping others you will too! It’s hard, but usually the things that are hard, but that I’m passionate about, are always the most fulfilling. I hope this helps!
I’m 16 and growing up I was really interested in becoming a doctor, until I got diagnosed with ADHD and my self esteem became low. I’m really bad at math but I love science and psychology and it comes easy to me. I’m also really interested in medicine in general and for the past 5 years, specifically psychiatry. I always knew I wanted to help people and I also am fascinated by the human mind and grew up with parents having mental illness and later myself was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. So naturally I thought psychiatry would be perfect since it involves all these things I’m so interested in. helping people is something I need to do as a career but the only thing is I don’t believe I’m smart enough for med school and I’m poor. Does anyone have any advice for me? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance
Hi Nikki! Thank you for sharing your story! The thing about a career in medicine, is that the main thing that matters is that drive that you so clearly have. It’s more important than what you may perceive as natural intellect or money. Given your age, I would focus on doing the best you can in school and just building habits of a good student. And that can help you get into college (maybe with a scholarship!). And then the rest will fall in place. So I think just focusing on being the best student you can be now, is the best thing you can do!
Hey! I’m so glad I saw this comment because I’m in the same boat. I was diagnosed with ADHD, anxiety, and depression and im constantly comparing myself to my peers because my brain works differently and I feel like I have to play mind games with myself to focus and study. This is my first year at University and I also didn’t really have the funds until my therapist told me about a program called vocational rehab. We both qualify since adhd, anxiety, and depression qualify as disabilities for their program. I applied and they gave me a counselor who helps me manage my diagnoses. I also wanted to tell you about their program because they will pay for the entirety of your schooling if you can explain how your disability interferes with school and you can prove financial need.
It’s definitely not too late Jason! I’m only slightly younger (25). But I have a classmate turning 40 this year and many who are in there thirties. If it’s what you want to do, you can definitely do it!
The people around you are not ‘geniuses’. This word is so overused, it’s lost its meaning. Newton was a genius, Wittgenstein was a genius, your mate who got 90% on their biomed exam is not a ‘genius’, they merely worked hard.
I just graduated high school, and I want to go back to school to hopefully one day become a forensic pathologist. I haven’t even started at the university, and I am already nervous and I am experiencing a lot of doubt about the entire process in general because 12-15 years of school seems intimidating. This is probably my dream job. Should I push myself to accomplish my goal or should I just forget it? Doctors are a different breed of people in my opinion. And I have a devil on my shoulder telling me I won’t be good enough. Any tips for me? Am I overthinking it? Does everyone experience this? I am so confused right now.
As an incoming medical student, this video makes me so motivated! It's so good to hear that you can pursue interests and hobbies outside of class!

@@EvolvingMedic thank you so much! I really appreciate it :)
You made it sound easy
How's your studies going
They’re going well thanks for asking! Just finished my first clerkship!
Jr Smith you say!!!!
Im 14 and wanting to become a doctor
Nice! You can do it!
I am 27 I have a masters degree and want to do medicine. Do you think going into medical school is too late for me?
It’s definitely not too late Jason! I’m only slightly younger (25). But I have a classmate turning 40 this year and many who are in there thirties. If it’s what you want to do, you can definitely do it!

Hi!
Helpful Vedio ✨🕊
I’m glad you found this video helpful!
Are you related to Quavo?
No I’m not but that would be awesome! Lol
10 classes a semester too😂
The people around you are not ‘geniuses’.

"Half way thru my first year of medical school"... So basically 6 months into 15 years eh?
Lol medical school in the United States is 4 years
@@EvolvingMedic lol I was just running my mouth. Half the time I dunno wtf I'm talking about and the other half I'm too stoned to talk it right lol
