Made my first carving from your video. It turned out great.
4 stitches 😂
As soon as they heal I’m trying a little guy.
My man hid my knife until my gloves come though.
That's the spirit!
Keep a styptic pencil and some superglue handy 👍
Hearing it cut is pretty satisfying
The Joy in your voice... like Christmas comes early for Doug!
I love the look of excitement on your face when you ask the viewers if we want one. That added little chuckle was icing on the cake. Lol. Enjoy it.
You reminded me of my children on Christmas morning
Hmmm... nice and sharp, good setup. Slice up a potato real thin, make some chips. Yummm.....then sit and munch and watch a Doug video 😃
Would be great for slicing meats and cheese for charcuterie
I thought the very same thing.
You have such a great attitude about everything. I think that's why so many people are drawn to you.
Fact
Our old people used the same tool for fine cutting tobacco leaves. After leaves are dry, we would stack dozens of leaves and fine cut it with identical tool.
Many years ago we had a Dutch gentleman give a demo on carving a wooden shoe (clog) with a similar knife to our carving club (OWC). We were astounded at how quickly and skillfully he had the exterior roughed out. Perhaps ‘roughed’ is not completely accurate, as it would have needed little clean up. He then began the hollowing - another set of unique tools, another story.
And I thought a draw knife was unbeatable. I've seen stock knives before but never one crafted as beautifully as yours. And straight thru endgrain like its butter. I'm bright green with envy. Next weeks podcast - carving miniatures with my new clogknife.
Wowzuh. Worth the wait! Wondering now where I have seen one used before on YT. Argh. Thanks for sharing.
The B-roll with the hard rock lol, love it. "Do you need one? No. Do you want one? Yes".
That’s a great looking handmade tool 👌 I can’t believe it slices through end grain so well!
Like a kid in a dangerous candy store. No idea what I'd ever use one of them for, but it's sharp and metal, so yeah I want one now too. Haha!
Great knife! I also have several of these, they never sease to amaze. What I do is wrap the eye with some rope, like paracord. This makes it a lot more quite than steel om steel, and at the same time it makes the eye smaller so that the hook doesn’t move around so much.
We had those in grade school..."paper cutter". In 60's.
Oh I’m jealous. Wanted one since seeing Jojo carve a spoon with one.
Great seeing you at my favorite Carver's channel!
In Holland, we have seen craftsmen make wooden shoes using this tool.
Awesome toy. I'm soo jealous.
Can't wait to see you use your new toy on a project! Looks like it will definitely come in handy.
I a'm soooooo not jealous. I would love to have one. There are some brilliant yt vids of European guys using them. Have fun.
That thing is pretty amazing!
That thing is wicked!
I am happy every time when see tools from Ukraine on RUclips
I too say hello to the passing trains! Thanks for another great video Santa, hope you enjoy your time away:)
wow, thank you for sharing, big hugs from MN
That was wonderfuly hilarious 😂
so very cool!!! Making me want one!!!
I love the sounds it makes when going through the wood! 🤩
Thats sum serious blade there Pard -- txs fer sharin
I just (yesterday) received mine (smaller, I think). First thing I did was countersink those wood screws in the handle. They were sticking out, irritating to the hand. I also have a bent gouge from this same company in Ukraine; they do a great job. Jane Mickelborough really knows how to use these stock/clogger's knives.
No matter your age there is nothing like new toys in your mailbox.
Dougie, I think you are actually blushing when you use & talk about your new tool. An amazingly SHARP tool. Keep out of reach of people who shouldn't be around sharp things. AND this is about the sharpest blade I've ever seen. It appears you are cutting through a carrot, but it was good carving wood. So very BEAUTIFUL! Cheers, Doug ⛏️🗡️⚒️🔩🔧🔱🔪🔥🔦📐🧰 in in
I'm new to making shoe lasts and drool over that tool!
That's way to cool!
I've seen JoJo Wood actually use the stock knife for rough carving spoons instead of an axe. Now I want one.
It would be great for slicing potatoes :)
If you haven't seen this vid - check it out also - Jame Mickelborough carving a spoon with a French paroir (stock knife). ruclips.net/video/euUoMrLivtI/видео.html
Yeah, quick work from a whole potato to French fries. 🍟
@@1turdontherun I think she is going to lose her thumb. The size of that blade gives huge mechanical advantage but it is way to big for her. I do like the spring that supports the blade hook.
Cool tool; looks like a great pepperoni cutter, sausage and bacon slicer too.😂
And finger slicer!
@@michiganmikeupnorth Too true THAT one!
This is interesting , never have seen something like this. I came across videos from ArtisianMediaLtd clog making to understand this more. Your going to have fun but don’t hurt yourself. Let’s see you make your first pair of clogs. Enjoy Be Safe Take Care. 👍👍
Thank you for video with our tool)) very happy you like it. Have a good day))
Thanks Doug
Those are great for shaping green wood kuksas and bowls.
Looks gorgeous. Funny - I'd never heard of them in 70+yrs of life and now yours is the second YT video I've seen about them in the last three days. The other knife I saw had a straight point rather than a hook and got jammed into holes in a piece of wood for leverage. I think he'd forged it himself. Very interesting tools. Really traditional. Love it.
That was an Advoko vid right? He’s a kick!
@@bobrenda1618 to be perfectly honest I really don't remember but probably.
Pretty sure it was. He did that thing with the holes..one higher than the other…not really a great arrangement compared to other things he’s made.
@@bobrenda1618 Duncan McHarg uses one in OZ to make shoe lasts. It's a traditional Paroir though they more often are hooked
@@jeremyatkinson4976 OZ? Is he the Wizard there?
Nice tool.
miter joints are what i think of, mark a line, slice it off nice perfect and clean ready for glue
Amazing tool. I want one
I’ve never seen wood turned into potato chips before.😁👍😁
I thought the same thing.
Good GRIEF! I think you might be able to read newsprint through them!
First time I ever saw one was with Jo Jo also.
Cool tool !
I knew him as Pete and every year he used to set up by the National Art Center here in Ottawa and sell clogs that he had spent the winter making. All different sizes and he would custom adjust them as needed, even a few days later as you settled into them. Neat to see a tool he might have used.
this reminds me a little bit of an old paper cutter
that is crazy cool!
That's a really big cheese slicer. No you don't need it but I think you'll find a use for it. It looks very nice and well made, have fun.
Congratulations Doug looking forward to the fun
That’s impressive
Clogs for everyone this Christmas!
super cool
Love how that works! I am envious!
That looks very satisfying!
Very cool 😎
Love it Doug thanks for sharing! 🤩🤩🤩👍👍👍💯💯💯
Beautiful Doug!
Need one? Want one HELL YEAH TFS (THANKS FOR SHARING) GB :)
reminds of my old Lion cutter. for cutting 45 degree angles on white pine trim
Wow! That's cool! And Beautiful! And I don't think I've ever seen a tool that sharp out of the box. Amazing!
(watch your fingers; don't let the kids play with it.)
I can imagine lots of uses for that. It would also be nice with a precise, straight up and down, hinge - like one of those old school paper cutters that every elementary school used to have.
It's like a 19th century chop saw.
I want one!
“It slices, it dices, it julienne’s!”
Sold!
I had never seen this tool and it is just remarkable. Amazing to slice wood like a carrot! Thanks for this great demonstration.
I can see why you needed this, it's awesome
That's some knife, might have to make one when I have the forge fired up.
Well now I know what I want for Christmas. Would be great for roughing out spoons. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome! I'm glad to see you having fun. I will be watching to see how you use your stock knife.
Dude!!!! That is awesome!!!!! And you are right, I want one!!!
Imagine your stop cuts with that !!
Pretty cool. Clogs for the fam for Christmas! God Bless and stay safe.
Man that is wicked sharp
Now that is a COOL TOOL!
that thing is a work of art! Looking forward to the next video that you make something with it.
Thanks!
Wow, that's a nice tool. I've seen one in use in a historical video. I may have to forge one. Thanks Doug.
Like a kid in a candy store! 😊
Interesting tool, looks super sharp!
Very interesting video Doug, you are correct I wouldn’t need one, but I do want one.😊
I've seen them before but didn't know the name of them. Cool tool though
Enjoyed the video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Well, don't you have Dutch ancestors, Doug? Then there's actually only one thing you should make with it.... As you all know, we (the Dutch) all walk around on wooden shoes, which traditionally were made with these clogmaking knives.😄
That's really cool
With such a knife, Buryats and Mongols cut tea, crumble meat from time immemorial -millennia.I forged such a knife for myself for slicing frozen meat.Very convenient.
New toys are fun, not so much with stiches. Looking forward to the careful use of it.👍
That is a thing of beauty❤️
Was going to carve today but now I'm going to try & make one of those!
I bought their carving axe and it's so well made. Love their store on Etsy
What a lovely tool. Ive seen them used at craft fairs to make wooden tent pegs. I have also seen something similar that is wall mounted for making kindling.
Cool vid. Rocking music!
Good morning Sir Doug.
Wow that's so sharp Doug amazing tool it just slice's wood and would save a lot of time 👍
Nice. I wouldn’t have any wood left! 😂
You can buy really great tools for a decent price from Europe for sure. They make great woodstoves for a real good price. The shipping really cost some coin. Nice tool for sure.
Iv seen these on you tube, looks like fun to have!!!!
amazing
Wow, cutting end grain like that is really impressive!
Sweet Tool
I don't do any any wood working but I would totally buy that too just to hang on me wall! 😃👍
I made one by taking the handles off a big drawknife, bending a hook in one end, straightening the other and adding a handle. It’s fantastic. One day I might get a real one but meanwhile mine does the job. I find that between the angle of the wood piece and the knife you can do curves and fine cuts before moving to the Sloyd knife and gouges. Great for removing end grain and outer bulk of bowls too. Have fun.
very cool
