  • Judd's been backpacking with his banjo for eight years. In this most recent trip he talks about how he hooks up his Deering Goodtime banjo to his backpack, how he stores it at night and some of the challenges when taking a banjo into the wild.

I have admire your dedication! I am inspired to take mine next time I go out. I need to sling mine over my back- I need my binoculars free.

Thanks! I’ve tried it lashed on the outside of my backpack but the weight increase that far back makes me have to lean forward a great deal. But I hear you on needing those binoculars free!

I use one with a resonator
I take the back off and stuff it full of cheese crackers/ candybars/powder drink mix/ beef jerky/ pickled eggs/ peanut butter sandwichs/ tatorchips/ sardines/ pickled hog knuckles/ loaf of bread/ dozen of eggs ' you can also put a frying pan in there but you gotta take the handle off and put it back on. Mines a good time 2 too.
