My understanding is the MF 550 was a replacement for the MF 148....nice 550 there ....driven most of the 500 series ..where i worked had a 565 .....but my favourite is still the 135 .....best all round small tractor .....
My cousin worked at hassop and I worked at jif Worksop I have some dealer stickers if you want any 550 was replacement for the 148 they have a 6” spacer between gear box and back end
Brilliant video Will your 550 is in exceptional condition for its age our neighbours had a later model with the 32inch wheels she was very tidy too but was eventually replaced by a 4245
Thanks Paul! We do try keep our tractors looking their best if we can!😄 nice to hear about your neighbours 550, bet the 4245 was a step up though power wise!
Good video Will 👍 gonna open the hater floodgates by saying never liked the 135s why i dont know but still don't like them 🙄😳🤣 we had 575s 590s and 595 before going on to 600 series and 500 series were excellent at draft work but absolutely hopeless at drawbar work due to the 500 series all being nose heavy , could use a 3 furrow reversible on a 500 series without any front ballast weight comfortably 👍 in my opinion if like us the land was very steep in places the 8 speed box was preferable to a multi power 👍
You made me feel that I should go out and buy one now and I don't even have a farm. I remember John I Fearns from Hassop Station. It was quite a loss when they packed up.
Yes that’s it it’s now a cafe and book shop I think but I’m told they still own the premises and rent out. Haha I’d definitely rather spend a day on one of these than a cabless 135 especially at this time of year!

I use a 165 on my small stable here in the Rosedale valley East lancs,we converted it to power steering six years ago.
Can’t be without power steering!
Super video, you should see the older landinis for rust.
Thankyou! Did some landinis have the same cabs as the MF 600 Series though? Could be the cab manufacturer think it was GKN sankey if I’m right?🤔
@@farmerwillmellor510 they sure did,had the perkins engine, but you could see them rust away in front of you, other than the rust they were very good.
Nice video, don't forget the all important power steering on the 550 which the 135 didn't have.

Love the videos Will. You folks have a good fleet of classic MF. Keep the machinery tours coming!!
Will do! Thanks Sean!😁
Such a difference between a dairy farmers tractor and an arable farmers 😂 mostly I've been on the dairy side 😊
Hi Will very interesting and well explained nice to see the older tractors good video again 👍 😊

@farmerwillmellor510 don't think they liked the 4245 as they only kept it 2 years and traded for a 5455 they still have a very nice 148 from new

Thanks Bob! Haha well we do have a 135 aswell I’ll have to do a video on that soon! Yes would definitely pick an 8 speed over a mutipower

The 550 will be more comparable to an mf 148. The 148 is an 8 speed, where as the 135 was a 6 speed.
Miles better. We had 2 550s at home and I've worked at plenty of other places with 550s. I used to spread slurry on a 590 4wd.
Gas struts on back window are upside down
Practically same machine as the 148 ( have 2 Off ) which can eat a 135.
scrap.
