    Having daily carried a Victorinox Swiss Champ for the last 47 years, I'm not usually particularly interested in the modifications I come across.
    Until I saw this!
    Right from the start I felt that this was going to be something very special indeed, and so it proved to be!
    Clean, precise, exquisite, its simply beautiful!
    I really liked that you used threaded bolts in place of rivets, they were really lovely pieces of engineering.
    Scales are such a personal thing, but I liked these copper ones, they were beautifully made.
    Watching you work was a real pleasure and I'm delighted to have found your channel and to have subscribed.
    Your work is to a very high standard and I believe Victorinox would be very pleased with your craftsmanship.

    Wow what a great mod! The Farmer X is my favourite SAK, and although I don't have that model of Spyderco (it's locking and I'm in the UK so wouldn't be able to EDC it) I bought a Spyderco Urban a couple of weeks ago and have been loving it. I was sceptical of them until I bought a Byrd Tern (it's a Spyderco design, and although made in China so are some actual Spydercos which cost a lot more) and loved the ergonomics and easy opening, both the Byrd Tern and Spyderco Urban have become an extension of my right hand and when I don't carry them I'm conscious of how much more of a hassle it is to open whatever knife I'm carrying. Having said all that I won't modify my Farmer X, firstly because I don't think I am as competent as you in that respect, and secondly I like the ergonomics of the Byrd/Spyderco handles. At the end of the day I can easily carry both types of knife.

    I would like to see a 4 layer 93mm Pioneer with a large Clip Point blade paired with the Combo tool from the Compact, Scissors, the Metal File from the Mountaineer & a Wood Saw. The Farmer X is a work horse & really doesn't need the opening tool layer or the awl but could use a metal file & the combo tool to keep it to a manageable 4 layer size .

    Stumbled across your channel a while back, I’m very impressed, you do absolutely stunning work.
    As a bladesmith / knifemaker I’m very impressed with the quality and variety of work you do with relatively modest tools. You have inspired me to try some SAK customisation of my own.
    One question is how to find these custom SAK scales, pins, tubes etc? parts? Is it just a matter of searching? I have seen a box of diff SAK parts and a box of diff coloured lanyards, toothpicks and tweezers in one of your other videos, are these available from Victorinox or did you just collect them through disassembly of a lot of knives? Hope you don’t mind the questions. Keep up the awesome work.

    • @FittoSurvive
      @FittoSurvive  Год назад +1

      Hey, glad to hear that you found my RUclips channel.
      The custom scales can be found on Etsy or by doing a Google search.
      The brass pins for the 91mm SAK are 2.5mm and 2.2mm. They can be found on Amazon here:
      amzn.to/3NosdOF
      amzn.to/3NrFK8d
      The spare parts can sometimes be found on Ebay, but I have collected my part box from knives that I have disassembled over the years.
      The colored accessories box can also be found sometimes on Ebay or on other knife shops selling SAKs.

  • @frankysour
    @frankysour Год назад +1

    Great job! And beautiful result as usual, stumbled across your channel some days back, and found a new world of SAKs... All beautiful!
    However... Why only spiderco blades? Understand the thumb hole advantages, but that part profiting out... You know what would be great, in my opinion? A front / top flipper blade! Maybe not easy to combine and make it work good with a backspring though... But for instance if a suitable dimension knife with a top flipper and a liner lock exists you could include the whole thing as a layer... Maybe draming, I know 😁

    • @FittoSurvive
      @FittoSurvive  Год назад

      The front flipper idea is great, I will have to try and figure something out. 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @frankysour
      @frankysour Год назад +1

      @@FittoSurvive thanks for the answer! For the from flippers probably the challenge would be the integration of a lock, but you could also place the blade layer in the middle of the knife... Nice! I don't know many knives but in case probably the Civivi ones could be a starting point, some of their front flippers have relatively low profile blades that could fit, and are relatively affordable...
      In any case, thanks for taking the time to even think about my idea👍

      Thanks! I modify the pivot hole when I use the Spyderco on a 91mm but not on the 93mm.

    Wow that's pretty awesome👍 Two questions. First, are you able to rearange the layers to make the blade more centered in the knife, and if so does it make it more difficult to access the opening hole? And second do you think it would be possible to modify a Victorinox One Handed Trekker in a similar fashion? The OHT is my EDC knife and I love it but the Victorinox steel does dull a little quick with heavy use and though the partial serrated blade does still get the job done it might be pretty neat to replace the blade with a Spiderco blade of hard wearing steel.

      Thanks!!
      Yes, the tools can be rearranged. The Spyderco can be accessed without difficulty as long as there is just one layer between it and the side where your thumb would be.
      I have not placed a Spyderco in a 111mm SAK yet, but I am sure with some experimenting it could be done. I have seen some custom scales for the 111mm too.

    That's so much easier than I thought it would be. Does the knife edge make contact? I might have to try this on a Pioneer, I wonder how a Manbug blade would work.

    • @FittoSurvive
      @FittoSurvive  Год назад +1

      👍🏻👍🏻 The knife edge does not make contact with the spring, during assembly there was not any tension yet. That is why the blade was so loose.
      I've never tried the manbug before.

    Have you ever made one with a locking knife blade? Have you tried using the locking mechanism from the s series Evo line with a spyderco blade? Nice work as always!

    • @FittoSurvive

      I have not done much experimenting with the locking mechanism. I have seen others use the locking mechanism from a 111mm, so I know that it is possible.

    I’m enjoying watching your mod videos and I’m really wanting to do a 93mm electrician spydernox mod myself , just curios which spring you used from another SAK and if you may know of any other videos or tutorials specifically on the spydernox mod ,
    Thanks. Mick

    Fantastic looking piece, do you think a UKPK blade would fit in the 93mm ?

    • @FittoSurvive
      @FittoSurvive  Год назад

      The UKPK is about 0.6 inches longer than the Dragonfly, so I think it would be too long.

    Hi there! Great job! Long time follower, recently subscribed and first time commenter here. Must say your videos inspired me to do my own hybrid. That would be a Endurnox, an spyderco endura blade on a victorinox ranger grip. Have you ever tried something similar? Would it fit? I would love to hear about your opinion. Cheers!

    • @FittoSurvive
      @FittoSurvive  Год назад

      Hey, glad to hear from a long time follower!
      I have not tried placing the Endura in a Rangergrip yet. I'd recommend measuring the thickness of the blades first, then measure the length of the Spyderco blade. If those match or are close, then there is a chance that it'll be compatible.

    • @EgoitzSalsamendi

      Awesome! I know a couple of people with Rangergrips so that won't be too much of a trouble and I have myself an endura so... Fingers crossed. Thanks for the answer! Cheers!

    I am attempting my first Spydernox mod. As I am pretty unfamiliar with dissasembling victorinox I have decided to play wit counterfeit dragonfly I bought for cheap and some 5$ huntsman and climber. Later on I will install plus scales or attempt pocket clip mod. Where can I source copper pins to install them and what is the best backspring to use for mod (I saw you talk before about scissors one)? Thanks, long time watcher, first time subscriber!

      Hey, I am sure that you will enjoy the project!
      I use the old scissor spring on the 91mm SAKs. It's the one without the parcel hook.
      Here's some links for the brass rods:
      2.5mm: amzn.to/45jiUXd
      2.2mm: amzn.to/3LNRfqA
      You will need both sizes.
      Hope that helps!

    Since the scales are no longer available, is there another place to get similar scales with the screw instead of rods?
    Or better yet, does anyone have an Amazon link for replacement screws for any victorinox SAK?

    • @FittoSurvive

      These scales are still available on Etsy. Search for W3rktrieb.
      The pivot barrels and torx screws can be ordered from DeCustomForge.

      You can source 2.5mm pivot barrels but, I can not find the 2.2mm pivot barrels.
      I've seen people drill out the center tools to 2.5mm.
      There are also titanium scales with torx screws available from China for the 91mm SAK. It has the 2.2mm pivot barrels. But it is limited to just 4 thin layers maximum.
