Oh man, this version of Conan’s meeting with Bob Dylan is just awesome; his impression of him is great too. Best short story ever told. Stephen’s reaction reflects this too.
I can see why maybe Bob Dylan didn't want his song used for a parody about a very serious pandemic, also a parody that makes political jabs during a time when the nation is very divided. I mean Weird Al made a parody not related to a pandemic and politics and got away with it fine.
Subterranean Homesick Blues anticipated rap by twenty years.
And "Too Much Monkey Business" anticipated "Subterranean Homesick Blues" by 9 years.

So Colbert's channel has the Dylan parody lyrics censored so they don't get sued.

The loophole is easily explained: on Stephen's show, it was his responsibility...but Stephen has no control over whatever Conan does on his show.
CBS got told not to broadcast the parody song - so they didn't...but TBS wasn't told not to broadcast the parody, so they are a little better off...legally speaking.
I mean, Dylan could still sue...but he would have very bad cards. It wasn't a song, using his melody, after all...it was just spoken words (which are not his).

I will tell you that I agree with Stephen Colbert very infrequently. However, the sampling of the song parody sounded hilarious and I would have enjoyed hearing the rest.

Isn’t parody protected under copyright law? May have been a gesture of good will to reach out to him but if you were really furious you probably could have just released it and would have been safe from a lawsuit
